  1. Man, I gotta get out of this place. So glad I live in a small town so this will take a while to get here

  2. I don’t like this actual real life season of Black Mirror.

  3. .06 is not a high level of confidence realistically.. and that’s the best they can hope for.

  4. What were the charges? Not paying tv license fee? Not paying a dodgey parking fine?

  5. I support this.

We must utilise technology and adopt.
When I am in public space, I don’t care about privacy.

Edit : I only mean I am OK, I don’t mean everyone should be OK..
We are not in DPRK … relax.

  6. Fuck facial recognition. Absolute bullshit. Cash on the way out too.
So glad I’m not a youngster today.

  7. Uk is the new China now, tracking everyone everywhere at all times

  8. Don’t remember anyone voting for the UK to be turned into China. Must have missed that meeting.

  9. And this is the sort of story they will use to railroad it through. Expecting it will be illegal to cover your computer camera soon in case they wanna see what you’re doing.

  10. Catch 22? Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t after you.

  11. Great but we already know what the real criminals look like, they run our country and have powerful friends to get them out of trouble.

  12. “I even sent the police a photo of the guy who did it and they didn’t do anything” what do you want reddit?

  13. What’s the big deal? Singapore does this and it’s safe as possible. Granted this is the UK where they will mess up and sell your details to G4S

  14. I’m a little confused at the outrage. Those outraged should be angry at CCTV, because that’s the real violation of privacy.

This is technology that reduces the amount of time people look at CCTV footage manually.

Was the basis on which we were happy with CCTV that nobody would check it and it wouldn’t be useful for arrests?

  15. As long as it’s only used as a tool and it’s reviewed and the decision whether to detain lies with the officer whose priority is to verify the information, then I have no qualms.

However I fear there’s an inevitably of a slippery slope with the technology as officers put too much trust in the facial recognition.

  16. They literally don’t send violent criminals and sexual predators to prison, so why bother?

  17. What do they even mean by ‘catch 22 criminals;? The article is really vague and unsourced and I can’t find the statistic anywhere else.

Did they use facial recognition to find 22 people on the same day who were later arrested, tried and convicted? Did the system flag 22 people who have criminal records?
