A lot of covid nutters are going to be very disappointed
>”A small percentage have not, and that of course is their right, but I don’t think you will win people to the desirability of vaccinations by making it compulsory.
“In fact, I think it could have a counterproductive effect.”
Surprising amount sense in this statement.
This really seems like something journalists stirred up – there was a mention of it in some NPHET notes to be discussed and the Irish media jumped on it
I’m perfectly fine if someone doesn’t want to be vaccinated with a free for him/her payed by taxpayers vaccine.
Good
I wouldn’t support mandatory vaccination. I think we should go with mandatory ringing of handbells and calls of “unclean!” by unvaccinated people in public places. It’s important that they have a choice.
RemindMe! 1 week
Mandatory vaccines are the only way to fix this.
you shouldn’t be allowed into a business or workplace without being vaccinated.
Oh, what a hero… 🙄
He’s never lied to us before.
That “story” today is a very obvious smokescreen designed to fuel outrage about something that’s not happening in order to diminish ALL the news about Paschal Donoghue ignoring warnings about the Help to Buy, Leo potentially not being taoiseach, schools not being able to find subs and Leaving Cert needing to be modified, the public services card GDPR fiasco…
They’re just a few things that spring to mind, as Micheál comes out authoritatively saying this won’t happen to look like he’s in control of anything.
This is good news.
Was never going to happen. A smoke screen for some other calamity no doubt.
Expecting the introduction of mandatory vaccination in a week then so
Just like Leo said the covid cert wouldn’t be used domestically?
aye. maybe if they worked.
so you can get arrested for not being vaccinated?
the world these days
That makes sense.
The way to encourage vaccination is exactly what we’ve done- not making it mandatory, but requiring proof of vaccination if you want any sort of life. That’s how France, which has a shit ton of vaccine skepticism, managed to hugely increase its vaccination rate.
If you make vaccination mandatory, all that does is cement the notion held by the conspiracy theorists that the government wants to control you. Instead, strongly encouraging it through a voluntary approach is what you do.
Fair play the right call. I think people should get vaccinated but keeping it non mandatory removes a lot of ammo for the conspiracy types.
Also means we can focus on the vaccines purpose to prevent serious illness and death vs transmission.
(am triple vaccinated, even got my kids vaccinated this weekend, vaccines work. Trust science).
A mandatory vaccine, would be unconstitutional as the constitution gives us the right to bodily integrity.
I don’t think any logical person would think it’s a good idea to allow the government to mandate any compulsory medication.
However… thinking about it here now….
…we do allow them to put fluoride in our water, and although this was declared (rightfully) unconstitutional in a court case (I think in the 70s?), the ruling was cast aside as the judge felt it was “for the greater good” to allow the practice to go ahead. Ttey may use this same argument for the Covid vaccine.
I’ve no opinion on fluoride cause I don’t know enough about it to really care.
Sidebar: My ex was a bit of a conspiracy nut and he claimed it was done to “calm the people”. He used to go on and on about how “that’s how they kept people calm in concentration camps man”.
He was part of a huge group of mad yokes who used to go out in Limerick with big signs and banners about shit like chemtrails and fluoride.
He went to court one day to protest the detention of some mad spoon of a pal of his who had been arrested for harrassing someone from Irish water.
Few hours later he got a pain in his chest, went to the hospital (mild heart attack) and 12 hours later he died due to a doctor “making a mistake” and accidentally cutting a hole in his aorta during a routine procedure.
He’d delight in the fact that his death sounds like a secret plot to silence him.
Sorry, what was I saying?… Oh yeah. Yes to vaccines. No thank you please to compulsory government sanctioned medication.
Funny, around the world politicians and leaders released similar statements. Now, mandates are creeping in, or are already in place.
For now, but the water is being tested.
They always test the water first. Wouldn’t be surprised if they flip on this.

Holy shit, a rare bit of sense.
