I blame Brexit, I blame myself because I know full well A1 are bastards for roaming charges in the UK and I should have topped up my Hot sim card which has better tariffs for the UK,, I also blame A1 for being thieving money grabbing bastards.

€60 for one fucking text message. Ouch.

  1. 1 SMS with 3 MB? Either an MMS or most likely a Messenger App, like WhatsApp

  2. The 60 Euros are for 3.71 MB of data, not for a text message.

I’m actually surprised that the 15 Euro / MB that A1 charges don’t fall under the “Verkürzung über die Hälfte” law in Austria, given that those prices are 5000 times more expensive than what is charged by [Redbull Mobile ESIMs](https://esim.redbullmobile.com/) which is technically just using A1 SIM cards (with RBM it’s only 3 Euro for a whole GB). So wholesale prices are probably a lot cheaper than that.

  3. An sms specifically doesnt carry 3 MB of Data. Also this isn’t a one sided thing for A1, they just have to make deals with the providers operating the network you are roaming into and they make the prices, your provider (Hot, which isn’t even A1) just forwards it to you

  4. Not an SMS, but MMS or forgot to turn off data services.

    Solely user to blame.

  5. Is that legit ? What would happen if you use some GB

  6. Get in touch with their customer service! This is not a text, these are roaming charges.

I had the same problem twice this year! Turned off all data and roaming options and was still charged 60€. Apparently most phones which are LTE capable do something called “ghost roaming” where they use mobile data even if you’ve turned it off. The only solution I could find to prevent this from happening was putting the phone in flight mode when I wasn’t connected to a WiFi network. Absolutely ridiculous.

A1 were very good and refunded the charges though when I got in touch.

This is assuming you did turn off all roaming options of course 😅

  7. Sorry but it’s your fault 🤦‍♂️

When you landed in UK you got the “Welcome Roaming SMS” and in the SMS was the Price for the Data Roaming. (12€/MB)

Since Data Roaming was on the quick refresh from your apps alone (since you were offline for hours) costs you a little bit of MB 💁‍♂️

  8. A friend of mine once went to Italy and then they had to pay 150€ because they used 10mb in Switzerland

  9. Maybe abo. Some abos bases on „expensive“ sms etc.
