    This is a lot dumber than you think.

    His defense is asserting that the courts have no power over him while he was president. They specifically state the separation of powers as a main reason.

    Now, that by itself is dumb.

    However, they clarify this by saying the Presidents official actions are “immune” from the courts. Which is true to an extent, but not in this dumbass way.

    First, is the assertion of immunity. This is dumb because it effectively is asking the court the clarify that *anything* a president does is not subject to legal scrutiny. If any court agrees to this they are signing off on the fact that an elected president *can do anything*. There is zero check on the executive and it creates a laundry list of problems that effectively does make the rest of the government moot.

    Second, he is asserting that his own insurrection was a *official government act*. Going back to point one. The first assertion would be, under other circumstances, that a president *could* be checked if he does anything treasonous. However, Trump is asserting that his insurrection was an act of government, but none of the courts damn business anyway.

    In short, anything I do is legal and even if it was illegal it’s none of your business anyway.

    Finally, he is asking that same court system to go ahead and agree with him on this. “Anything I do is not illegal. Can you go ahead and sign off on this.” This is the part that makes it insanely dumb for me.

    Trump is saying:
    1. Everything I do is presidential
    2. Even if it was illegal I get immunity for it
    3. The same system that would check me on this needs to go ahead and agree that they don’t have power over me in this instance.

    I cannot stress this more.

    He is basically saying, “Ha ha ha ha you have no power over me…if that’s okay with you.”

    It boggles the mind.

  25. I don’t understand why the question of immunity wasn’t answered before the investigations. You knew – or so I think – it may have been the main cause for him to stand for president once again.

  37. Round and round they go. During his second impeachment GOP reps and senators were saying if his actions were criminal then it must be dealt with by the judicial branch. Now that is happening and the argument is immunity… so agonizingly transparent.
