Taxpayers lose as insurers keep millions in state funds cut from Covid payouts

  1. I’m still waiting years for the EU to crack down on Irish insurers because the government is useless. Or the competition authority or whoever. Insurers are just a cartel.

  2. This is completely the governments fault for not having appropriate rules in place before hand in the event of any situation like this occurring.

For instance they already have legislation for personal injury claims following car accidents. If the claimant missed work and claimed for the department of social welfare during the time, the claimant can’t be compensated twice (ie by the insurer and department) for that missed time. So the insurer is required to pay the department of social welfare the amount paid to the claimant.

This is the same situation so far as I know. Obvious they couldn’t have foreseen Covid but they type of situation and any unheard of and should have been legislated for.
