Can someone more informed tell me why we’re both importing and exporting electricity at the same time, does that not just cancel out
Yep, perfect weather for it – largely sunny-ish and very windy.
It’s very calm still and cold nights we need to worry about. I did ask this last year and apparently we have plenty of reserve even if one of our big nuclear plants trips off the grid, but we still rely _way_ too much on fossil fuels.
Shouldn’t this mean our energy bills will be cheaper? I’m not knowledgeable here so would appreciate knowing why not.
Feels like we’re just being scammed and laughed at when I see headlines like this.
The opposite of that time back during winter where it was freezing with 0 wind so literally none of the wind turbines were producing anything
No battery storage means all the excess energy produced today just gets sold off anyways instead of being able to be used on days with less wind
Fun fact: Wind turbines break down so much Siemens had to revise their forecast because they were losing far, far more repairing wind turbines than they expected. I saw two dead ones in a group of 5 driving back to my parents
Negative wholesale price I see too.
Yet, we’re still paying based off a price attached to fossil fuels if you’re on a 100% green tariff.
I was with Bulb (RIP) and my price went up. Asked them if their wind bill went up. Told me it had to as it tracks with fossil fuels
wowee 65% currently coming from wind. 1% from solar.
Itsa new record for wind.
This sounds like amazing news? Can’t be that good though right? Nothings good in the UK? Are we making electricity by pissing in people’s chips or something?

Love it
What it doesn’t tell you is its so windy that the 65% wind power is being done with a single turbine.
That’s a good website, I’ve been using [this](https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/the-national-grid-eso-app/id1469935379) app from the national grid to keep an eye on electricity generation.

So… why is it so expensive…?
