I’ve not heard anyone who thinks it’s a good idea in government or opposition. This isn’t going to happen.
It seems to just be an internal report on the possibility and issues involved. Just like when they drew up plans on invading Northern Ireland in the 70s. Good thing that didn’t come out in the press though.
In general all mandatory vaccination for the general public will do is rile up the antivaxers and get them more support.
Now, in certain sectors (healthcare, etc) I can see it being viable as a condition of employment for health and safety reasons.
By the language used on Claire Byrne today and in the articles yesterday I think they are going to do it for some healthcare staff, I don’t think this is for the general public
Unless you work in healthcare or similar then People should be free to not get jabbed.
But a employer should be allowed tell a unvaccinated person to get the jab or lose their job. If some other employer wants to take them on then they can.
Inclined to agree with Maru Lou.
Am I a shinner now ???
The carrot over the stick please
With our Vaccination uptake, saying you are against mandatory vaccination is an easy win for public officials. I think the current strategy of educating paired with some pressure from leisure and private companies is sufficient to get everyone on board. Even all my friends that are not anti-vax but vaccine hesitant have got it at this stage. What will become a problem eventually is getting anyone that isn’t enthusiastic on board for boosters, especially if they will be a yearly thing.
Mary Lou says shes against it and you bet Leo will now vote in favour of it
Feeling this is coming. More countries are doing this now Austria being the latest one I think. Total shit show
Not a anti vaxer or anything but you need to let people have a choice
so mary lou and the Taoiseach are in complete agreement on this issue! Thats nice.
Mary Lou looking for easy votes.
If the public opinion wanted it she would be saying the opposite and we all know it.
down vote me to hell, but i think mandatory vaccination is a great idea. and not just for covid! its been proven time and time again that vaccines are, on the whole, beneficiary for the person receiving them and for the wider public. vaccination for children should be mandatory as well, and parents who do not should be treated like anyone else who neglects their children.
Does it even matter? With the percentage of people vaccinated and with the booster numbers, it’s almost as if it was mandatory for all intents and purposes.
Kite flying this was so, so, so unimaginably stupid politically, not to mention extraordinarily irresponsible from a mental health and public health perspective. Whatever fucking idiot decided to leak this in order to gauge reaction (because let’s be honest, that’s literally how this government operates at every level and we all know this is why it was leaked) should be ashamed of themselves. They’ve both damaged their own administration and added entirely avoidable fuel to the conspiracy theories.
Fucking idiot, whoever it was.
Mandatory vaccines would just rile up the antivaxxers and cause trouble.
They’d start claiming it was like Nazi Germany while ignoring the fact that Nazi Germany actually relaxed vaccine requirements in the hope that weaker members of society would die off.
Can anyone give me a valid justification (apart from a valid medical, I will die if given it reason) to not get a vaccine that not be replaced with “having a few pints and drive home”???

Genuine question ….
It’s my body, I can put what I want in it
Nobody is absolutely certain on the effects
