The hypersonic missile threat was always a paper tiger. The Aegis missile system is capable of taking out incoming ballistic warheads, and those are moving at many multiples of the speed of sound.
I remember when, some years ago and well before the invasion of Ukraine, Russia announced its amazing new hypersonic missile capabilities. And the response from American military planners was, paraphrasing, something like, “We have never achieved results like that in our own hypersonic missile research.”
Which, hilariously, convinced a lot of people (people who, I assume, didn’t know or understand Americans very well) that that was it for the United States… American power was instantly reduced to dust and the future belonged to China and Russia forever and ever. Or something along those lines.
But that is simply classic American dry understatement. It is their way of saying, “We know you are full of shit even if you yourself haven’t figured that out yet.”
The hypersonic missile in question is just a ballistic missile launched from a plane. Americans were experimenting with the concept in the late 50s.

Everything is undefeated before it’s used. Glad that period is over now for Russia lol
TLDR….Yes
Killjoy…that’s a very fitting name.
Not just ruined, but completely destroyed. Especially when it turned out we gave the Ukrainians the older ammunition vs Russia’s cutting edge hyper-sonic missiles. To be fair, its just an air launched ballistic missile. The US did that back in the 50’s.
Doesn’t matter how fast its going if its a simple ballistic arc and detected far enough away.
