> Republican Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced a few days before Christmas that her state would not participate in a summer federal food program for impoverished children, which has prompted backlash online.
Nothing says, “Giving,” “Good will toward all,” and “spirit of the season” like taking food from children at Christmas so that you get to ruin both their Winter *and* Summer Vacations!
It’s federal aid, too, so denying it is just a useless stunt. It’s not quite cutting off your nose to spite your own face: it’s their GQP governor cutting off children’s noses to spite the Biden administration.
The christian right’s mercy for y’all.
It’s nice they are following the words of Jesus when he said, “Are there no workhouses?” Amen.
Another shocking decision from the forced birth, anti-child party.
But not enough fury to get these people to consider voting blue. They voted for the governor by like 20 points, it’s a solidly red state now and these people just can’t stomache the thought of voting for the party that stands for good things
> “An EBT card does nothing to promote nutrition at a time when childhood obesity has become an epidemic.

She’s saying Iowa kids are getting too fat. Interesting.
Maybe Iowa should stop voting Republican.

Just sayin’.
In today’s episode of “Nothing Hates Like Christian Love”… Conservative Christians don’t want to help feed the poor!
“They are Man’s and they cling to me, appealing from their fathers. This boy is Ignorance and this girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased.”
Dickens wrote about these people many years ago. They’ve always been with us, and perhaps always will be–for it is more convenient to turn the head than to offer a hand, to shut a door rather than open it.
A sort of clockwork regularity.
And Jesus said pull yourself up by your own bootstraps and send your children into the slaughterhouses to work if they are hungry.
WWJD? Not this.
“If I had a rubber hose I’d beat you with it.”
Is this what they mean by their War on Christmas? It’s a war on everyone else’s ability to celebrate with their families.
>If the Biden Administration and Congress want to make a real commitment to family well-being, they should invest in already existing programs and infrastructure at the state level and give us the flexibility to tailor them to our state’s needs.”
Translation: give us money that isn’t specifically earmarked for helping kids, because while we do want the money, we don’t want to help kids.
True Christmas spirit
Sparks Fury as Voters who will now have undernourished children, shout “Fucking Biden!!” and vow to make the state even Redder.
We in Iowa hate this ghoul. She’s an alcoholic 3 DUI lush too.
Republicans really do like to figuratively fuck kids.
And they have the audacity to claim that they’re cristians….it’s just another little tidbit that leads me to belive that we are not in the same universe we were in in 2015…
WTF is wrong with these people!!?
I mean it’s money from the federal government that’s simply going to go to something else if Iowa doesn’t take it. The only possible good thing in this for Iowa republicans is that they get to be cruel to poor children (many who are minorities but still most are white).
> “Federal COVID-era cash benefit programs are not sustainable and don’t provide long-term solutions for the issues impacting children and families,” the governor said said. “An EBT card does nothing to promote nutrition at a time when childhood obesity has become an epidemic.
Holy shit, she’s really saying 1. We have a problem, but your solution is not sustainable, 2. plus our kids are obese (so, they can be hungry for a few months over this summer?????!).
> If the Biden Administration and Congress want to make a real commitment to family well-being, they should invest in already existing programs and infrastructure at the state level and give us the flexibility to tailor them to our state’s needs.”
Ahh, ok. If your money doesn’t go into my (special interest) pockets first, – on behalf of my constituents – I don’t want it.
You know, if she has an existing food program for kids, she can let fed money come in and shift her budget out – but I’m going to assume she doesn’t have one.
Politics over hungry kids, way to go Kim!
Nothing more hateful than Christian love. This is why I now follow the Tenets of the Satanic Temple. Won’t see Satanists do this shit.
Tenet I: One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.
The cruelty is the point.
Yes force women to give birth by outlawing abortion and then refuse to provide poor kids with food. The party of God and jesus my ass fucking hypocrites.
I don’t understand how anyone can be against feeding hungry children. These food programs are not terribly expensive and they give nutrition to kids who literally can’t get it. I don’t have children and I don’t plan to have any, but damned if I won’t vote to pay extra in taxes or do anything I can to support programs that feed people who don’t have food!
There’s no “sustainability” argument for feeding kids. You just do it. You don’t care how much it costs, because it’s something that needs to be done.
A country that can spend 887 billion on military can feed its kids.
GOP are all monsters. Every last one of them.
Thought they were pro life. Isn’t food required to…you know…live?
Kim Reynolds, the Governor of Iowa, has been associated with several controversies and scandals:
Pay-for-Play Scandal: Reynolds was accused of an unethical pattern involving accepting significant campaign contributions from Amerigroup just days before rewarding them and UnitedHealthCare with a 7.5% raise, amounting to over $100 million from the state budget.
Drunk Driving Arrest: In 2000, Reynolds was arrested for drunk driving. Iowa’s court system later blocked public access to online records detailing this arrest.
Disclosure Scandal: Reynolds reportedly failed to disclose payments she received from a tech company that subsequently secured a $500,000 annual state contract.
Rejecting Federal Funds for Food Insecure Kids: Reynolds declined to participate in the 2024 federal EBT program, which provides funds to low-income families to ensure children don’t go hungry. She expressed concerns about the program not promoting nutritious food choices.
Public Records Law Violations: Reynolds settled three lawsuits accusing her of violating Iowa’s public records law. The lawsuits alleged illegal delay in the release of public records, and the state agreed to pay over $174,000 in attorney fees to settle these lawsuits.
Don’t Republicans claim to be protecting kids? Yet they cut/limit their access to education, food, healthcare, and safety.
We need a general strike in this country. Less than a week, no working and no buying, bring them to their knees. Workers everywhere are entitled to livable wages, and KIDS ARE ENTITLED TO EAT.
I mean, you elect a Republican governor… are you expecting them to be a good person? If so, HAVE YOU NOT BEEN WATCHING THE GOP for the past 25+ years?
She says she’s taking it away because of childhood obesity. Says that “swiping an ebt card does nothing to address the nutritional issues children are facing.”
The solution isn’t taking it the fuck away. Normally, I’d suggest adjusting what you can get with it however even a white bread and bologna sandwich is fat wrapped in cake with how food standards are anymore.
From the article, this explains it all, “Iowa Republican Governor Kim Reynolds won’t provide free lunches to Iowa children but she will have them working in dangerous jobs in violation of federal child labor laws,” political scientist David Darmofal wrote.
“Jesus didn’t say feed the little freeloaders!”- Kim Reynolds in her holiday speech
Iowa won’t feed kids, but they will relax child labor laws so kids can operate heavy machinery. Merry Christmas from the pro-life party! /s
Repukes always do this kind of crap when a Democrat president is in office, Its like some sort of sick revenge.

The GOP is a sadistic death cult.
Dear Iowa, remember this in 2024
