Total guess here. But I wonder if the Patriot missile system operators got better at spotting this class of hardware?
This could be something simple. Or it could be an incredibly complex, months long investigation into watching and recording the flight times, paths, and patterns of various pilots, craft, or bases. Combined with other factors, leading to a focused attack in order to maximize the total number of units they take out.
For example, if you take out one fighter jet at a time weeks apart, Russia will catch on and make adjustments. Whereas if you bide your time and plan out your attack to hit as many fighters close together a few days apart, you can maximize your damage done before they change tactics, bases, schedules, or patterns.
Maybe it involves someone behind enemy lines, and so hitting multiple targets days apart all at once helps protect your soldiers behind enemy lines.
It could be a lot of things.
Kitchen fires maybe?
I do want to believe that while the Ukrainians have gotten excellent at shooting these down, the rapid failure rate also has something to do with embargoes making it harder to find spare parts and components and keep up proper maintenance.
Because then the entire fleet is likely to be heading the same way. You’re un-teaching a man to fish instead of hiding his fishing rod, so to speak.
