The Only Thing More Dangerous Than Authoritarianism

  1. “Authoritarianism” – how mass media euphemizes fascism.

    > Authoritarianism and fascism are both forms of government that have a high degree of control over the population and little respect for individual rights. However, fascism is a specific type of authoritarianism that is ideologically based on a relationship between business and the centralized government, a leader cult, and the exaltation of the state and/or religion.

  2. As human ideologies go, there’s nothing more dangerous than the idea that the government should have a role in mandating the thoughts, actions, or decisions of citizens. That idea opens the gate to everything hateful and vile that can be used against human beings.

Authoritarianism puts people in prison for thinking. It puts people in camps and even kills them simply for existing.

In a broad sense, there are “things” more dangerous than authoritarianism, like Russian roulette or Ebola, but ideologically, there’s nothing more dangerous. It cannot be tolerated or excused when it is seen.

  3. Even the fascist section of my old Methodist church fought and won against gays/lesbians being allowed at services and functions. Changed the sign outside and bought new bibles.

Crazy old bastards still complain about no new members. Go figure.

  4. What boils my piss is that the real Jesus would hold these people in utter contempt. He’d be definitely chucking Joel Osteen, Carl Lenz and Brian Houston out of the fucking temple.

  5. It’s a specific form of authoritarianism.

    And it’s dangerous indeed.

I really identify with the author.

  6. A checklist:
    • Love
    • Joy
    • Peace
    • Patience
    • Kindness
    • Goodness
    • Faithfulness
    • Gentleness
    • Self-control.
These are the traits a follower of Jesus is supposed to exhibit (“the Fruits of the Spirit.”) If people are routinely not displaying these – towards everyone – they are Christians in name only.

  7. I appreciate OP sharing this because I might not have read it otherwise, but these types of CNN/Fox News-style clickbait titles need to go.

“Christian Nationalism: The Only Thing More Dangerous Than Authoritarianism”

  8. Isn’t Christian nationalism as we’re defining and seeing it rising another form of authoritarian government?

  9. “It was miraculous. It was almost no trick at all, he saw, to turn vice into virtue and slander into truth, impotence into abstinence, arrogance into humility, plunder into philanthropy, thievery into honor, blasphemy into wisdom, brutality into patriotism, and sadism into justice.

Anybody could do it; it required no brains at all. It merely required no character.”
    ― Joseph Heller, Catch-22

I am worried – really worried – that if Trump (or DeSantis) were to win next year, that it would be the last free open in America. The ‘Project 2025’ blueprint would be executed, and we would be on our way to a repeat of 1930s Germany.

All the pearl-clutching over Bill Clinton’s lie and unfitness for office has of course been exposed as a lie. All the alarm bells over Obama ‘really’ being a foreign national (and thus unfit per the Constitution for the Presidency) have been exposed as a lie. All the professed love of Christ of Nazareth has been exposed as a complete and utter lie.

Has anyone ever seen a MAGA ‘Christian’ attired head-to-toe in ‘Jesus’ gear? Or flying a ‘Fuck Satan’ flag?

By their fruits ye shall know them…
