The foreign shareholders involved in the “Arctic LNG-2” project have invoked force majeure on their contracts owing to US sanctions. This action signifies the shareholders’ decision to withdraw from their contracts on the construction of a new Russian plant designed to produce liquefied natural gas.
French company TotalEnergies, Chinese firms CNPC and CNOOC, and a Japanese consortium Mitsui and Co each hold 10% of the shares in "Arctic LNG-2", with the rest owned by Russia's "Novatek".
