Time for people who feel lonely especially the elderly but things have been made easier for residents at a care home in Nottingham who’ve joined a pen pal scheme and you might be surprised to see who they’ve been paired with as Becky cell reports ready one two three jeez
Christmas elves have come to spread some festive cheer at this care home in Nottingham these children attend a local primary school and for the past couple of years they’ve been writing to Residents forming friendships through letters this is 10-year-old Mia and her pimp pal Mavis tell me about the things
That you found out about each other that You’ got in common uh we both like coloring we’re both like dogs the kids have also learned about their elderly friends childhoods I just really enjoy like seeing how they do like their life things and how it’s different to ours
Now what kind of things well they would like play all all the different games and like they would have like devices like hours now but they would still find fun things to do when they were younger yeah the youngsters visit the home once a school term and it’s a joy for the
Residents it’s uplifting isn’t it because I talk and you can hold a conversation with them there’s a lot of people here can’t they hold a conversation but then they forgot what You’ said many here have dementia staff say they benefit hugely from these visits and of course the
Games a red card seven ofs but there have been difficult moments for the children yeah we have to have those little Chit Chats about circle of life and residents getting ill and and in so yeah we have had a few a few tear and a bit upset cuz they build that

Flourish Becky cotell Sky News Nottingham pandas are China’s Pride en Joy but they’re also a valuable diplomatic tool serving as a litmus test for international relations in a sign of just how strain relations with the West have become by the end of 2024 there’ll likely be no pandas at all in either the
US the UK or Australia for the first time in five decades out Asia correspondent Helen an Smith reports they are China’s pride and joy a symbol of statehood and a national Obsession at Beijing Zoo there are always crowds to see them and they are so much more than just a light-hearted
Love here pandas are a serious business and there’s one resident in particular whose story explains why meet Yaya she’s 23 and one of many pandas loaned by China abroad but after these pictures of her in Memphis Zoo went viral so did the accusation that America mistreated her
She’s home now but just listen to the impact she’s had swaying public opinion on politics I don’t like America says xiaoy yangping the way they’ve treated our national treasure I dislike them more she was abused there you can see it for your own eyes just saying we didn’t abuse it it’s not
Okay both American and later Chinese authorities said Yaya was treated well her appearance the result of a skin condition but the fact that rumors were allowed to run a symbol a window into strained relations you may not think it but these amazing bears are actually actually highly useful geopolitical
Tools they’re valuable assets for the foreign zoos that host them and a good example of soft power something that China and the West can cooperate on but it’s unclear how much longer that will continue indeed Yaya’s not the only recent rury while Edinburgh said farewell to Yang Guang and Tien Tien
After a stay of 12 Years three other pandas were recalled from Washington’s national zoo in November their lease also not renewed it’s thought by next year there’ll be no pandas in America for the first time in five decades experts say it reflects a tactical hardening in approach you had
The panda diplomacy and in lately it’s been wolf Warrior diplomacy so you have this highly aggressive form of you can’t even call it Outreach it’s posturing so we’ve gone from pandas to wolves from cuddliness to aggressiveness and it’s not to say that China shouldn’t feel it has the right to be assertive
And and look after its own interests as any country should but it’s the way it’s gone about it that it really isn’t earning too many friends outside of maybe Russia and North Korea China is loaning its pandas to some Russia one recent recipient an indication as to where XI jinping’s loyalties
Lie and while he’s hinted they could soon return to the West relations remain in a slum pandas for now a precious chip to be bargained Helen an Smith Sky News at Beijing Zoo well they say Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year it certainly
Was for Lydia ceran from Texas and now we have one more present for you and here it comes right here Santa Claus is Here during her shift she was was surprised by her daughter a member of the US Marine Corp who’ returned home for the holidays needless to say she was given the rest of the day off to spend with her reunited family brings tears to your eyes still
To come we have the sport with jacine yes I’m here good morning long time no see happy Christmas everybody at home um we’ve got a bit of sport this morning something really really important Manchester United fans uh they might have got just the gift they were looking
For with s Jim Radcliffe completing a deal to take part ownership of the club we’ll bring you all the details of that plus yet another setb in a frustrating Premier League season for Chelsea as they slip up once again this time away to [Applause] Wolves 2023 New Year bring in with it New Hope it’s just incredible that’s what I like about it give us a song then R good news it’s not extinct to start planting a whole new rainforest heartwarming to help others India the first to land south of the Moon the lon a sheep has
Been rescued love it did amazing best story of the day it’s saying I’ve s thought of Sky News break on my own phone news never stops Very few people had fridges in the 40s and 50s very PE few people had cars so the idea of the great big shop didn’t even exist so people would shop locally they would get you know you’d know your local community and um you’d buy exactly what you needed for that moment in time
So there was also very little waste it be seasal it cuz you could see you know you go in and you see what what there is so eat seasonally which is better for the environment better for you and um I mean look at that is that amazing so
That was the one of the first convenience stores in the UK I think I’m think in the 50s and 60s it started to grow hugely and before that you know people often would buy they would buy fresh for what you needed at that time tins were very you know tined food was
Very popular obviously eating seasonally but it’s it’s now it’s now exploded but actually a lot of people think that buy doing these huge big shops is uh saves saves you money but actually the waste that happens as after those big shops whereas in fact most people are near a a
Convenience store and buying smaller more often often works out more budget friendly I think that there’s a bit of a reaction against that so this Christmas we’re doing a much more paired back Christmas the grown-ups are not giving each other presents it’s just for the children and we’re being quite
Conservative about what they get and previous that hasn’t always been that case and I know lots of other families that are doing the same thing they’re either doing a secret stand so you get one really lovely thing I think people are much more conscious about spending obviously the cost of living has made
People think really carefully about that but people are conscious about sustainability and about waste and plastic and packaging I know lots of people who are shopping in a very conscious maybe less gy way this year The five of us have made it out of the Car welcome to Backstage the film and TV podcast welcome back to breakfast on Christmas morning now it’s one of the biggest deals in football by one of the UK’s richest men so Jim Ratcliffe has completed a partial takeover of Manchester United Football Club the billionaire has bought a 25% stake in
The club bringing to an end 13 months of talks about a potential sale our Sports correspondent Rob Harris reports they were welcomed with hostility never at all never willing to explain much are you definitely selling Manchester United no now the Glazer family’s answer no to a complete sale but a
Dilution of their Manchester United ownership enter to Jim Ratcliff the local lad term billionaire striking a 1 billion pound deal to buy a quarter of the club in a statement s Jim said whilst the commercial success of the club has ensured there have always been available funds to win trophies at the
Highest level this potential has not been fully unlocked in recent times so Jim believes he can since his petrochemicals giant inos moved into sport we can afford to do this and you know why shouldn’t we really I mean we’re putting a modest amount in our terms into sport I think they’re good
Endeavors we enjoy it he wants to see United winning the title winning the Champions League getting back to the the the big honors then that’s a big step forward as well because with the glazers what I’ve always felt is there’s always been this desire to just do enough to
Just qualify for the champions league and then we’ll get more Revenue there’s never been a real determination to be the best club in the world it’s a club saddled with more than 500 million pounds of debt after Malcolm Glazer’s Takeover in 2005 control was maintained after a New York Stock Exchange
Flotation in 2012 and two years later ownership passed to Glazer’s Children when the Tycoon died fan Fury peaked around the attempted European Super League Breakaway and in November 20 22 the glazers said they were open to a sale s Jim faced a rival from Shake Jim bin hammad althani but the Qatari Banker
Didn’t meet the glazers valuation s Jim’s minority ownership CS with £330 million for stadium upgrades many fans though won’t be satisfied until the glazers finally leave Old Trafford and it’s a complete new ownership in place in an 11th season of struggles since Alex Ferguson’s retirement hope now comes from football

Hasn’t always been that case and I know lots of other families that are doing the same thing they either doing a secret stand so you get one really lovely thing I think people are much more conscious about spending obviously the cost of living has made people think really carefully about that but people
Are conscious about sustainability and about waste and plastic and packaging I know lots of people who are shopping and are very conscious maybe less gudy way this year welcome back so we had Premier League Football on Christmas Eve but there were no lovely presents for Chelsea not at
All this guy News sports bulletin is brought to you by Vitality getting more people more active live life with vitality I love this country Ain thanks for letting us share your match day experience you’ve just landed at humberside airport tell us about your day so far actually my day is a little strange because turkey doesn’t use summer time I have a big advantage in flying to England because I almost
Land in in the time I start the journey then for me the plane is like a bed and it’s very important for you that you’re here to attend the games for Hall City especially with the team going so well only game I missed this season actually uh was the game uh the president’s
Brother’s uh son was getting married so I have to attend in that married apart from that uh I win all the games home and I can see that half of the games away so we’ve got a busy day ahead of us and I think the next stop is the the
Club store to meet some of the fans let’s go meet the fans Yeah born and raised in Hall in Hall yeah grandfather Hall everybody Hall but is dead supports lead United unfortunately yeah how important is it for you to have this interaction with the fans because when you took over you made it clear that the fans were a big part of the project for
You actually our average attendance was 8,000 uh when uh we were buying the club so uh 8,000 was not a good number for a beautiful club like this so we were dreaming to make it 15,000 14 15,000 now we have the 20,000 average so I can see
That it’s more than the dream I’m so happy that the fans are now back to the stadiums and back to the stores so football is nothing without fans so our fans by the way are always you going to see today uh energic young and I think
That uh the when you look at them they see in their eyes the passion for the club and the love for the club we’ve seen you walk through town today and the fans are coming up and there does appear to be a lot of love and that’s not
Always the casee with football club Owners is it I don’t know about other owners because everybody has his own style I always have projects and we have new projects to make them happy you know last year we took them to Turkey uh for a trip uh I’m dreaming of another trip
Maybe uh somewhere it’s a surprise so uh to live together to enjoy together and to share uh your pain when you lose together is always the best thing in life [Applause] [Applause] Y I always feel like at home when I come here actually I’m at home thank you so much and because I’m going and I’m staying so short only uh thing I can say as a last is I would like to give free drink to [Applause] everybody this Sky News sports bulletin is brought
To you by Vitality time now to take a look at the Christmas weather for you warm memories wherever you go The weather sponsored by katar well it’s looking unsettled into the new year and mostly mild with the snow largely restricted to Northern Hills it’s cold in the far north mild but Breezy elsewhere with outbreaks of rain spreading across the Southwest Northern parts have a scattering of showers Wales and Central England will
See rain taking over this morning while Southern England looks wet throughout the south of Ireland will be wet for a time too largely drying later on elsewhere Northern parts can expect showers frequent and prolonged over Scotland and bringing snow to Northern Hills it’ll be cold in the north mild
Elsewhere and less windy than yesterday Wales and the West Midlands will dry up later but expect little change elsewhere where Southern Britain will see rain clearing this evening while showers elsewhere will die out Inland it’ll turn cold as Skies clear with a frost in the north now boxing day looks mostly Fine
Dry and sunny but Northern Scotland will see a scattering of wintry showers the weather sponsored by Kata Airways still to come on Sky News breakfast Israel’s Defense Forces say it’s reviewing reports of an air strike on a refugee camp in central Gaza It’s 7:00 this is Sky News here are the headlines on Christmas date nearly 70 people are reportedly killed in Gaza on Christmas Eve and an Israeli air strike the IDF says it’s investigating this comes as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepens and the Israeli Prime Minister vows to press on with the war
Meanwhile Christian leaders around the world use their sermons today to highlight the plight of children in the war torn regions the foreign office says it’s supporting the family of a woman missing in Thailand after a scuba boat capsized in sport billionaire to Jim Radcliffe completes a partial takeover
Of Manchester United after more than a year of talks but there’s yet another setb for big spend ing Chelsea as they lose once again in the Premier League this time at [Applause] wolves coming home for Christmas the special surprise for one Texan Woman and the Marine band leads recognitions to the thousands of personnel serving abroad this Christmas we’ll speak to a sailor later in the Program happy Christmas and welcome to Sky News breakfast gaza’s Health Ministry says at least 68 Palestinians were killed in Gaza on Sunday after an Israeli air strike hit a refugee camp in central Gaza the ministry said those fatalities include at least 12 women and seven children the IDF says it’s reviewing the
Report and is committed to minimizing harm to civilians meanwhile in the West Bank tensions are growing with Israel repeatedly raiding Palestinian Villages Nicole Johnson joins us now from Jerusalem Nicole what’s the very latest that you can tell us on the situation well for the people of Gaza it’s been another very difficult night
As you said there was an air strike in the central part of Gaza in the AL magazi refugee camp and the Palestinian Health officials are saying that dozens of people were killed we’ve seen pictures come in of them taken to a hospital about 5 kmet from there it’s very difficult actually for ambulances
To get into these areas because the size of the bombs being dropped on Gaza are so large and so significant that the roads are broken up uh there’s Rubble everywhere and that is one of the main issues issues that we’re hearing also in the north of Gaza where over the last
Couple of days heavy fighting in jabalia refugee camp also in shaja late last night we heard from the Israeli Defense Forces about some of the tunnel infrastructure they say that they have discovered in jabalia the IDF says that there is the headquarters of Hamas in the north that they have uncovered a two
Level tunnel network uh under the streets of Gaza the first level is 10 m deep the second level according to the Defense Forces is dozens of meters deep as significant tunnels large enough to drive a small vehicle in now this is one of the big focuses for the Israeli
Military it says it wants to destroy the tunnel infrastructure under Gaza we know that there are hundreds of kilometers and miles of tunnels there but all of this is happening at a huge toll to the civilians inside Gaza Israel says it’s trying to minimize civilian casualties
But that is not the experience of the people of the ground on the ground hundreds of people are being killed almost every day from one end of Gaza to the other people in that Central area where the strikes have taken place more than a 100,000 people there have been
Ordered to move to the South to ruer but there are also strikes happening around ruer the only tiny area of land where it appears that there is any degree of safety is an area called al- maazi it’s a Sandy strip of land on the edge of the
Coast of Gaza and there is practically nothing there but flimsy tents uh running water in the in in the sand and people have told us that they don’t have blankets they’re basically lying on the ground with their families so day after day the humanitarian situation in Gaza
Just gets worse and all of this has happened in the week that the United Nations passed a resolution finally after weeks of debate and delay to try and increase Aid into Gaza but barely a couple of hundred trucks are making it in every day Nicole thank you Christian leaders around the world
Are using their sermons today to highlight the suffering of children caught up in the Israel Hamas War we’ll get the latest from the Middle East in just a moment where almost 70 people have reportedly been killed during a strike on a refugee camp in central Gaza
But first let’s take a look at some of those messages in his sermon today the Archbishop of Canterbury will compare the conditions faced by children in the region to those faced by Jesus saying today a crying child is in a Manger somewhere in the world nobody willing or
Able to help his parents who desperately need shelter or in an incubator in a hospital low on electricity like Al Ali in Gaza surrounded by conflict maybe he lies in a house that still Bears the marks of the horrors of October the 7th with family members killed and a mother who

Their tradition of spending Christmas at Sandringham today our Royal correspondent Laura bondock is standing by for us uh Nora what’s been happening this morning are there the usual cues of people waiting to catch a glimpse of them there certainly are hello and a very happy Christmas from sandream the King
Private estate here in Norfolk where already people are starting to cube take a look over my shoulder you can see the queue actually stretching back quite a bit I can’t count because it is absolutely pitch black here we’re lighting them up but mark my words they’ve been here for a long time front
Of the queue let me introduce you to and say a very happy Christmas to Dan Chapman um Dan happy Christmas tell me what time you got here uh so we got here about 4:00 this morning and this is not your first time is it uh no so so our
First was in 2011 and then obviously we missed two because of covid but yeah this about our 10th it’s Christmas morning what brings you to sandre it well so I’ve we’ve got a younger brother but by the time he’d grown up Christmas morning wasn’t really the special por it
Was more of the evening so we only live about 20 minutes away so it was mainly just you know ensuring that you know we still could do something Christmas afternoon evening is now the special part so why do you want to see the royal family this morning I I think it’s like
I say it’s just a tradition that we have now but it’s also really good especially now you know the whales children uh growing up it’s really nice to kind of see them go through as I said 2011 was our first one it was Katherine’s first
As well so to see her kind of get to grips with the public and now seeing their children kind of grow up and mature has been really really good okay and looking back over the year we’ve had a big year we’ve had a coronation how do
You think uh the the King has fared in this first full year of is Reign I I think extremely well but it’s not surprising you know he had so long to prepare and you know he was always that King in way waiting shall we say but he’s you know done everything that I
Think everyone in the end obviously there were a few people that the naysayers along the way but I think overall and especially you know supported by her majesty the queen as well as his family you know his son The Wider family princess an you know fantastically I’d say and who are you
Most looking forward to seeing today we never know who’s going to come who do you who do you want to see um probably definitely as I’ve already mentioned uh Queen Camila but as well as uh the Welles children as I say kind of seeing them grow up mature throughout the time
It’s been really really good Dan Chapman thank you very much go and get that top spot again Dan here since 4:00 this morning the Crowds Are Gathering here it’s not raining luckily but it’s pretty damp and there’s a chill in the air of course after uh the royal family gather
Here for the service at St Mary Magdalene where they will then come out and meet some of these crowds that’s what the crowds hope the the king’s Christmas message his second Christmas message and we’ve already seen that photo released uh taken and filmed this message in the room behind the
Buckingham Palace balcony that balcony where he and the Kate Queen stood after the coronation and waved to the crowns he is standing when he delivers this broadcast he’s not surrounded by the family photos like the late Queen used to be instead though he stood next to a living Christmas tree which we’re told
Will be replanted at a day later date for now though you can see it in that photo um covered in natural organic ornaments anyway that that’ll be the king’s Christmas message broadcast at 3:00 the contents of which are always kept secret for now though the focus here at Sandringham the Royal loyal fans
Gathering already as the king prepares to lead the royal family for their traditional Christmas celebrations here Laura thank you and just to say your sparkly jumper hasn’t gone unnoticed lighting up the uh dark morning now the number of people who will be homeless this Christmas is expect to have increased significantly
Charities say there’s been a 14% rise in the number of people sleeping rough or in temporary accommod ation it also means many will go without a hot meal today my correspondent Molly Malone is at a kitchen in Guilford trying to change all of that Molly how are you
Doing yeah yeah good thanks there’s a real Community effort already underway this morning they’ve been going since 5:30 this morning here in Guilford the ovens are already fired up we’ve got the local butcher in the background here the community have really come together and
The aim is to get 500 uh meals out to people that don’t have or can’t cook and don’t have capacity uh to cook the homeless people uh refugees International students uh women’s refugees all sorts within a 10 uh mile radius of this kitchen at this school uh
Here in Guilford I’m going to show you what’s going on uh behind me because it’s it’s a pretty busy organized operation and as I said they’re aiming to cook over 500 meals it’s very much a family initiative uh as well the gasin family here in Su they started this six
Years ago at first inviting just 22 people into their home and serving Christmas dinners there and then it expanded uh so much that they’ve now over the last six years sent sent food to hundreds of people uh across the community now the idea is that people uh donate money the local butcher is
Donated produce The Barbers donated uh the Christmas uh crackers and these meals as I said are going out uh to homeless people to to refugees International students those that can’t cook at home the elderly uh and lonely people that don’t have the ability uh to make their food at home and clearly this
Comes at a time as the cost of living uh continues uh to bite food inflation slightly coming down but still very very high and the number of people 300,000 people this year homeless at a record high and I think really the community here serving to illustrate those people serving those people they’re cooking
Throughout the morning they’ll start boxing up at around 10:30 you can see across here they’ve got a very organized operation going and they will start their deliveries at 11:30 throughout the morning serving those people of Guilford in need this Christmas Molly are you sticking around to to taste any of the
Food absolutely I can confirm I might have a pig or blanket in or two oh for breakfast great Molly thanks now Christmas can be a difficult time for people who feel lonely especially the elderly but things have been made easier for residents at a care home in Nottingham who’ve joined a pen pal
Scheme and you might be surprised to see who they’ve been paired with as Becky cotol reports ready one two three jeez Christmas elves have come to spread some festive cheer at this care home in Nottingham these children attend a local primary school and for the past couple of years they’ve been writing to
Residents forming friendships through letters this is 10-year-old Mia and her PM pal Mavis tell me about the things that you found out about each other that you’ve got in common uh we both like coloring uh we both like dogs the kids have also learned about their elderly friends childhoods I just really enjoy
Like seeing how they do like their life things and how it’s different to ours now what kind of things well they would like play all all the different games and like they wouldn’t have like devices like ours now but they would still find fun things to do when they were younger
Yeah the youngsters visit the home once a school term and it’s a joy for the residents it’s uplifting isn’t it because they talk and you can hold a conversation with them there’s a lot of people here can’t they hold a conversation but then they forgot what You’ said many here have dementia staff
Say they benefit hugely from these visits and of course the games a red card seven of art but there have been difficult moments for the children yeah we have to have those little chitchat about circle of life and residents getting ill and and passing so yeah we
Have had a few a few tear and a bit upset cuz they build that relationship and you know they’re right into each other but it’s it’s a good convers ation to have is part of life isn’t it and for Palm Pal’s young and old it’s a rewarding relationship it makes you feel
Like really happy and like yeah I like writing letters to them so they’re happy cuz some of them might not have people to talk to anymore like children or anything so it makes me feel really good that they have someone to like sort of talk to over a letter thanks for having
Us even Generations apart friendships can still flourish Becky cotell Sky News Nottingham well they do say that Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year and it certainly was for Lydia calderan from Texas and now we have one more present for you and here it comes right here Santa Claus is Here oh during a shift she was surprised by her daughter a member of the US Marine Corps who’d returned home for the holiday needless to say she was given the rest of the day off to spend with her reunited family now back in the UK the Royal Marine band is leading thanks to
Personnel serving abroad this Christmas with a rendition of an old Classic whether you know it by its name Carol of the Bells or from the festive Classic Home Alone you’ll recognize the tune I’m sure almost 7,000 Sailors soldiers and aviators will be stationed overseas this Christmas across 40 operations in 30 countries and we’ll speak to uh saor
Poppy Chambers this hour about uh being posted abroad on Christmas day okay well let’s catch up with the sport now with Jackie and you have that music for your yoga sessions yeah I’ve got a I’ve got a Christmas playlist that’s that’s on it I love that song so
You have to strike a yoga pose a little later to it I’m not I’m not feeling it this morning this too early really is it Christmas Day Jackie Merry Christmas are you all ready we normally have this conversation are the past minutes done and then you overdo them when you get
Home because you’re in a panic cuz I’m already prepared and you’re not that’s what happened last time oh yeah sorry that’s just an off camera discussion uh we are going to be live to Ukraine to talk to Ser stovsky uh very shortly he used to be a tennis player he is now a
Fighter let’s see how his year has turned out to be uh it might not be a very happy Christmas for Chelsea fans we’ll show you how they slipped up once again in the Premier League yesterday this time it was at wolves also looking a bit brighter for Rangers as they push
To win the Scottish Premiership back from Celtic there’s the goals from their win at motherwell and we’ve also got an exclusive interview with the England manager Gareth Southgate as he discusses what could be next for him whenever he leaves his current Position 2023 new year bringing with it New Hope it’s just incredible that’s what I like about it give us a song then Rob good news it’s not extinct to start planting a whole new rainforest to heartwarming to help H India the first to land south of the
Moon The Loner sheep has been rescued love it did amazing best story of the Day was saying i’ s I’ve got a Sky News break on my own phone news never Stops people had fridges in the 40s and 50s very few people had cars so the idea of the great big shop didn’t even exist so people would shop locally they would get you know you’d know your local community and um you’d buy exactly what you needed for that moment in time so
There was also very little waste be seasal it cuz you could see you know you go in and you see what what there is so you eat seasonally which is better for the environment better for you and um I mean look at that isn’t that amazing so
That was the one of the first convenience stores in the UK I think I think in the 50s and 60s it started to grow hugely and before that you know people often would buy they would buy fresh for what you needed at that time tins were very you know tined food was
Very popular obviously eating seasonally but it’s it’s now it’s now exploded but actually a lot of people think that buy doing these huge big shops is uh saves saves you money but actually the waste that happens as after those big shops whereas in fact most people are near a a
Convenience store and buying smaller more often often works out more budget friendly I think that there’s a bit of a reaction against that so this Christmas we’re doing a much more paired back Christmas the grown-ups are not giving each other presents just for the children and we’ve been quite
Conservative about what they get and previous to that hasn’t always been that case and I know lots of other families that are doing the same thing that doing a secret stand so you get one really lovely thing I think people are much more conscious about spending obviously
The cost of living has made people think really carefully about that but people are conscious about sustainability and about waste and plastic and packaging I know lots of people who are shopping and a very conscious maybe less gudy way this year welcome back we’ve got the sport
For you now with Jackie got a big interview coming up haven’t you yeah we’re going to go live to Ukraine uh which might sound odd in the sport but it’s a former professional tennis player seris stoski who is now a fighter and just interested to know how his Years
Gone we’ve sort of cheed in with him every once in a while but you know I bet he didn’t think a couple of years ago he wouldn’t he would still be in this position dressed in his army uniform I bet he didn’t uh would be talking to him
But also um was it a a Merry Christmas Eve for Chelsea fans there were no free gifts let’s put it that way this Sky News sports bulletin is brought to you by Vitality getting more people more active live life with [Applause] Vitality I love this country I and thanks for letting us share your match day experience you’ve just landed at humberside airport tell us about your day so far actually my days a little strange because turkey doesn’t use summertime I have a big advantage in flying to England because I

Life [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] I always feel like at home when I come here actually I’m at home thank you so much and and because I’m going and I’m staying so short only uh thing I can say as a last is I would like to give free drink to [Applause] everybody Our oppent the sky new sports bulletin is brought to you by [Applause] Vitality former professional tennis player Sergey stovsky might have been expecting a peaceful retirement but just as he laid down his racket for the last time Putin launched his illegal invasion of his homeland Ukraine and he joins us
Now to share his thoughts on nearly two years of con conflict and um just tell us what the last year Sergey has been like for you well uh we all expected it to be bit more happy towards the end unfortunately the situation is quite uh stable where
We are uh we cannot move much there’s a lot of I would say there was a lot of losses on both sides but without any inter fact in it and uh it’s getting harder and harder for for us to to gain our territories back you you sound a little
Bit demoralized I mean do you feel that the interest and commitment uh from the West is deviating away from the war in Ukraine because of the conflict that’s going on in Gaza I mean that’s what Putin pretty much said in his press conference a week or so ago do you feel
That on the ground is is that the case well of course we see see that the the international media are dividing their attention towards all other stuff including Gaza and of course it’s very important as well but the decrease of uh I would say support is I would say it’s not material
But it’s visible uh and emotionally of course it’s getting harder once we understand that most likely sooner or later we will be left alone uh against Russia and that’s going to be a very scary fight I would say yeah can what do you notice that you’re that you’re
Missing or that you you don’t have enough of what what is wrong uh well it is a lot of things that we’re missing and unfortunately everything that we need it comes at a time which is already different uh you know uh in the beginning of the summer we needed tanks and and anti-aircraft
Missiles they came by the end of the summer which of course pushed all the logistics bags now we needed the the f-16s earlier or towards the end of the summer most likely we’re going to get them next year by the time Russia is digging incredible fortifications uh
Behind the uh the fighting line right now and storming those position is extremely dangerous and costs a lot of lives so as I said the price of getting our territories back is is increasing uh but unfortunately we don’t have any other choice I mean sealing the deal with
Russia right now would just remove it the timeline by one year once they you know get their full capabilities and the next blow which will be sudden uh we’re not going to be capable to recover from as we head into another New Year can Kenya as you’re sitting there in it
Looks like some kind of store or in Bunker wherever you are can you see any end inight any resolution uh well you know it would be very not nice but you know the samurai he doesn’t have the goal he just have the path unfortunately that situation
With Ukraine right now and all of us so we understand that we cannot stop because once we stop we going to become all victims uh but it is also very hard to see the end but uh logically we understand that it’s not only in Ukraine that we are struggling Russia also
Struggles uh and they will also need human resource uh which is not easy to draft for them as well so our fight is basically try to keep that tension inside Russia and hope that eventually uh eventually will change their leadership there okay um we’re out of
Time sery but um I wish you all the best to stay safe in 2024 and just very briefly tell us did you manage to have a Christmas Eve is there is there any chance to to to celebrate Christmas in any way where you are well Ukraine this year first time
Officially celebrated Christmas uh on the 24th of December and yes we did have a chance to celebrate it so thankfully to to ourselves and to any other many other troops but eventually even on the front line there were some small Christmas dinners of or somewhere more
Tragic somewhere more happy but it is a situation we are currently in so we’ll just stay with that okay stay safe and all the best of luck in 2024 Serge Sosi thank you so much indeed for joining us this morning appreciate it let’s take a look at the for you

Airways this is Sky News breakfast coming up as the UK wakes up on Christmas day we’ll be joined by the bishop of Leads the pilot put his hand on the top of my child tried to follow me into my hotel room received messages to keep it quiet these women were once members of an elite Squadron the Red Arrows a dream job that turned into a nightmare of sexual harassment SAS and
Bullying how do you describe the culture that you witnessed and experienced absolutely toxic some Pilots were Untouchable For Good morning you’re watching Sky News breakfast now as people wake up today there’ll be one thing on their minds well one of the things on their minds presents of course but after those exchanges many will be heading to church for Christmas day communion we’re joining me now is Bishop of leads the
Right Reverend Nick Baines happy Christmas to you um I wonder if we can start by you sharing your thoughts upper most on your mind this Christmas morning well I think uppermost on my mind is the fact that we’re living in a very brutal and quite conflicted world and Christmas
Is not about um anything sentimental you know it’s about God opting into the world as it is I think there are some people think Christianity is about an escape from reality it’s the opposite it’s God opting into the world not exempting himself from all that the world can
Throw at us and that’s where the the joy of Christmas comes from it’s literally imanuel God With Us not God against us yeah interesting perspective and as you say it’s it has been a year full of conflict Israel and Gaza Ukraine um Sudan how are you able to convince that
Um as you say God is present throughout conflicts and all the the misery that we’re seeing well I think if you go back to the original story The Nativity Story um you’ve got a place you’ve got these people ordinary people who are living under Roman occupation life was very
Cheap um and the same sort of questions that apply to us now applied to them to Mary Joseph and all the people involved in that narrative um now my dasis has a very close relationship with Sudan and you mentioned Sudan a moment ago and part of
My answer to you would be well listen to the people there the Archbishop of Sudan has been bombed out of hous home uh they’ve had to be exiled to Port Sudan they went there with nothing uh 42 of them and yet they are continuing to celebrate and and to Serve the People
All the people not just the Christian Community uh from their Exile what is it that fires them up well it’s this message that at the heart of this story is God coming among us we’re we’re not Exempted from anything that the world can throw at us none of us is we are
Mortal as well and we see the outworkings of human violence and greed but they don’t have the final word usually say this at Easter um the Death final B and destruction don’t have the final word God does that is a a positive message indeed and and to to Echo your thoughts the
Arch Bishop of Canterbury uh when uh he makes his address today will compare the conditions faced by children in the region talking about the the Middle East and uh those faced by Jesus a quote from him today a crying child is in a Manger somewhere in the world nobody willing or
Able to help his parents who desperately need shelter yeah and I think sometimes we need to read on to the story beyond the manger you know Jesus and his parents end it up as refugees um having to flee because what happens when um Jesus is born well the
Local power Monger Herod decides the only way to um protect himself and his own power is to slaughter the young children because he’s told that you know a child is been born is going to be a king so what you do you just slaughter them all so it’s it’s a very familiar
Story and what would be your message to to those who have been forced to to flee their homes um you mentioned refugees there what what would be your message to them today well it’s down to the rest of us to look into their interests you know
Part of the for me of being a Christian is that you follow this Jesus Jus Christ who was born in the vulner vulnerability of a baby in an obscure part of the Roman Empire where life was very cheap and um he depended on other people to
Support him to take him into exile to return from Exile and so on we have obligations that we are Christians to look to the interests of those who are the most vulnerable and what would you say is the happy message of ch Christmas I’m aware
That there is still a lot of joy around although we are in in in Desperate Times what is that that happy message well I I think I think this is a happy message I mean Joy is not simply a response to uh what happens to us it goes much deeper
Than that because it’s rooted in something that says um the way I see the world and therefore live in the world is going to be shaped differently because of this baby so you know I’ll be off to Rippon Cathedral I was in Bradford Cathedral last night I’m off to Rippon
Cathedral this morning and we’ll be celebrating and we’ll be joyful because the birth of this child changed the world and changed our history and that’s worth celebrating what will be the best part of the day for you any particular hymns that you’re looking forward to when you
You get to the cathedral later on well um I I love the cathedrals and their worship I love love being with the people but when I get back from rippen um I’ll have my two of my grandchildren more are coming tomorrow but two of my grandchildren and the parents will be
With us and one of them is only a year old and uh he was born uh 11 weeks premature and I look at him and think you’re just a lovely little miracle so he’s not quite a baby anymore so I’ll be singing the carols and I’ll be coming
Back to that oh that is beautiful he is he is still a baby and a a beautiful Miracle as you say thank you very much for speaking to us the right Reverend Nick Baines there Bishop of Leeds happy Christmas to you pandas are China’s pride and joy but they’re also valuable diplomatic tool
Serving as a litmus test for international relations in a sign of just how strained relations with the West have become by the end of 2024 there’ll likely be no pandas at all in either the US the UK or or Australia for the first time in five decades our Asia correspondent Helen an Smith
Reports they are China’s pride and joy a symbol of statehood and a national Obsession at Beijing Zoo there are always crowds to see them and they are so much more than just a light-hearted love ha pandas are a serious business and there’s one resident in particular whose story explains why meet Yaya she’s
23 and one of many pandas loaned by China abroad but after these pictures of her in Memphis Zoo went viral so did the accusation that America mistreated her she’s home now but just listen to the impact she’s had swaying public opinion on politics I don’t like America says
Xiaoyang ping the way they’ve treated our national treasure I dislike them more she was abused there you can see it for your own eyes just saying we didn’t abuse it it’s not okay both American and later Chinese authorities said Yaya was treated well her appearance the result of a skin
Condition but the fact that rumors were allowed to run a symbol a window into strain relations you may not think it but these amazing bears are actually highly useful geopolitical tools they’re valuable assets for the foreign zoos that host them and a good example of soft power something that China and the
West can cooperate on but it’s unclear how much longer that will continue indeed Yaya’s not the only recent rury while Edinburgh said farewell to Yang Guang and Tien Tien after a stay of 12 Years three other pandas were recalled from Washington’s national zoo in November their lease
Also not renewed it’s thought by next year there’ll be no pandas in America for the first time in five decades experts say it reflects a tactical hardening in approach you had the panda diplomacy and and lately it’s been wolf Warrior diplomacy so you have this highly aggressive form of you can’t
Even call it Outreach it’s posturing so we’ve gone from pandas to wolves from cuddliness to aggressiveness and it’s not to say that China shouldn’t feel it has the right to be assertive and and look after its own interests as any country should but it’s the way it’s
Gone about it that it really isn’t earning too many friends outside of maybe Russia and North Korea China is loaning its pandas to some Russia one recent recipient an indication as to where XI jinping’s loyalties lie and while he’s hinted they could soon return to the West relations remain
In a slump pandas for now a precious chip to be bargained Helen an Smith Sky News at Beijing Zoo still to come we’ll hear from the plumber who’s ditching the lose and heading to Tinseltown I’m Martin brunt and I’m Sky’s crime correspondent my most memorable story was and still is The Disappearance of madelin McAn please please do not hurt her please give our little girl back we aim to be the best and most trusted place for news for detectives

Lonelier sheep has been rescued love it did amazing best story of the Day just saying i’ I’ve got a break on my own phone news never Stops It’s 8:00 this is Sky News here are the headlines on Christmas Day nearly 70 people are reportedly killed in Gaza on Christmas Eve in an Israeli air strike the IDF says it’s investigating this comes as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza weapons and the Israeli Prime Minister vows to press on with the
War meanwhile Christian leaders around the world use their sermons today to highlight the plight of children in the war torn regions the foreign office says it’s supporting the family of a woman missing in Thailand after a scuba boat capsized King Charles continues the tradition of Christmas at Singham the
Crowds are already arriving here and will be live as the king attends church a little later on in sports billionaire s Jim Radcliffe completes a partial takeover of Manchester United after more than a year of talks but there’s yet another setback for big spending Chelsea as they lose
Once again in the Premier League this time at [Applause] wolves coming home for Christmas the special surprise for one Texan Woman and the Royal Marine band leads recognitions to the thousands of personnel serving abroad this Christmas we’ll speak to a sailor later in the Program happy Christmas and welcome to Sky News breakfast gaza’s Health Ministry says at least 68 Palestinians were killed in Gaza on Sunday after an Israeli air strike hit a refugee camp in central Gaza the ministry said those fatalities include at least 12 women and seven children the IDF says it’s reviewing the
Report and is committed to minimizing harm to civilians when Nicole Johnson joins us now from Jerusalem and what more can you tell us about that that air strike Nicole well according to the Palestinian Health authorities it certainly sounds like a big air strike in al- magazi
Refugee camp this is a camp in the central part of the strip and people in that area had been ordered by the Israeli forces over the last few days to get out of central Gaza and move to the South but it’s a big ask there are some
130,000 people in the area that had been identified uh to be struck and it certainly sounds like that was a big attack over night dozens of people reported to have been killed transported to a hospital a few miles from there it’s really hard for the ambulances to
Often get in and that’s because these strikes are so big that it breaks up the roads there’s rubble and they just can’t make it in and we’ve seen that time and time again in the north of the Gaza Strip in shajia in jabal where the roads have been just turned in
Churned up and turned into rubble and sand so trying to get those uh ambulances in is almost impossible late last night we heard from the Israeli Defense Forces about some of the tunnel infrastructure they say that they have discovered in the northern part of Gaza they said they found a two level Tunnel
Web the first level was 10 m underground the IDF says the second level dozens of meters deep and it goes to show just how sophisticated the infrastructure is that Hamas had worked on with these tunnels across the Gaza Strip over the last few years uh the Israeli forces also said
That the tunnel that they found went under a school and a hospital but all of this changes nothing for the people in the southern part of Gaza which are being hit hard by constant Israeli bombardment Nicole thank you Christian leaders around the world are using their sermons today to highlight
The suffering of children caught up in the Israel Hamas War well we’ll have the latest on that situation for you as updated by Nicole just there but first let’s take a look at some of those messages in his sermon today the Archbishop of Canterbury will compare the conditions faced by children in the
Region to those faced by Jesus saying saying today a crying child is in a Manger somewhere in the world nobody willing or able to help his parents who desperately need shelter or in an incubator in a hospital low on electricity like Al Ali in Gaza surrounded by conflict maybe he lies in
A house that still Bears the marks of the horrors of October the 7th with family members killed and a mother who feared for her life in his Christmas Eve address the Pope also focused on the holy lands he said The Clash of arms even today prevents Jesus from finding room in the
World on this night however Jesus the son of David after nine months in Mary’s womb is born in Bethlehem the city of David tonight our hearts are in Bethlehem where the Prince of Peace is once more rejected by the futile logic of War by The Clash of arms and even today
Prevents him from finding room in the world let’s speak to the Archbishop of Jerusalem now the most Reverend hosam naum uh welcome to you um first of all I wanted to get your reaction to that Israeli air strike in uh Gaza that um reported to have killed at least 68 people on Christmas
Eve and thank you thank you Julian and Merry Christmas to you and the to all those who are watching us at this time um of course you know the strike last night is one of many that had been happening over the last uh 70 more than
Almost 80 Days uh of course you know like the killing of civilians and the death of children and women uh is is devastating all of us and the violence that erupted on the 7th uh continues to break our hearts um and we hope that this Christmas will bring more joy uh
And will bring safety will bring an end to this world obviously Christmas is supposed to be a time of Celebration as you say Joy are you still able to find the joy in Christmas with what is happening in the region yeah as as you mentioned in the
Sermons absolutely you know I think you know at the time of Jesus’s birth um at Le I think all the events that took place around the birth of Jesus Christ were not happy happy ones whether Jesus being uh himself a refugee um to Egypt with his family whether the massacre of
Children uh whether they couldn’t fly find a place in the end but the hope of Christmas lies in the babe of Bethlehem in Jesus and for us as Christians you know like the time of Christmas is a time of Hope and a time of joy and peace despite everything that is happening
Around us and it gives us the resilience and the hope that we continue to strive for peace and pursue it especially at this time where there is war in the holy land and what will celebrations be like in Jerusalem we know that um in Bethlehem for instance celebrations
There have been halted and the normal festivities that would be ongoing have been cancelled yeah so last night I was myself in Bethlehem for the um um Christmas cols and lessons and the I just described in my sermon that Christmas this year looks like Good Friday in Jerusalem in a sense that
There is no sign of any festivities no lights uh even the absence of the Christmas the famous Christmas tree at the manger Square um and you know it is really devastating and how can we celebrate in a sense I’m not talking about liturgies and prayers that I’m talking about festivities how can we
Celebrate um with the with the absence of Peace especially in Gaza and around the area here in the holy land so therefore the message was very clear from all the heads of churches here in Jerusalem that it is time now to think about our land to think seriously about
Peace a just and Lasting peace for both Palestinians and Israelis and the two-state solution is the only way forward not war not the sound of bullets but it is around the table that we can find our future a bright future for both peoples tell us about the work that the
Dases of Jerusalem does in terms of um Peace as you mentioned there and uh reconciliation because that’s something that you work towards on an ongoing basis isn’t it no AB absolutely I think you know whether the Anglican church or the churches at large you know we we have so
Many institutions around the the Holy Land including in Gaza our own Al hospital that Archbishop Justin just mentioned in his sermon and also churches in Gaza and our people there and around the area like these institutions continue to be a Beacon of Hope and a beacon of Peace in in a land
That longs for peace and that’s our message is to bring the hope of God into the world today through the birth of Jesus Christ we continue to hold fast to these values and you know the spirit of Christmas will continue to linger despite everything that is taking place in our land
Today can you tell us about some of the projects that that you run to that end now indeed so we have we have many partners around the world and they of course those partners are very much dedicated to the uh welfare not only of fish in the land but you know you know
The people at large and of those we have the of course the Anglican communion office in in in in London and we have the friends of the Holy Land we have the Jerusalem and Middle East Church Association as well trust that and and many many others embrace the Middle East
And and many others you know they are all supporting us in our ministry in order to alleviate the suffering of people and also giving us hope especially as Christians you know we we have a dwindling community in the Holy Land we are less than 2% now and we we
Are finding it really hard to continue to witness in the place where Christianity began this is the Cradle of our faith Jerusalem Bethlehem Nazareth and many other places they continue to be you know the most ancient communities in the world you know Christian communities and we hope that we continue
To be and continue to minister and to continue to witness to the same old story and what final Christmas message would you leave us with you know I hope that you know like um this year or this coming year will carry with it a promise a promise that uh we will continue to
Walk in the path of Peace we will continue to uh work together with people of different faiths and I hope that you know Jerusalem will continue to be a Beacon of Hope and hopefully will find its true nature and character and that’s why you know as heads of churches we
Have have always stressed the importance of the preserving the Christian not the Christian but you know the character of Jerusalem whether it is the Christian or the Jewish or the Muslim presence here in in Jerusalem and I hope that you know like the custodianship of the King Abdullah over Christian and Muslim holy
Sites will continue to be a safeguard for that character and we will hope to work to work with other leaders around the world so that we can bring peace to this place to Jerusalem and from Jerusalem to the ends of the Earth Archbishop thank you for that message of Hope there the
Most reverent hosam n Archbishop of the dicese of Jerusalem thank you happy Christmas let’s uh bring you some other stories making the news today and Rescuers searching for a British woman Millie young who was washed off a dive booat in Thailand as it sank growing increasingly concerned for her safety a
Spokes person from the foreign Commonwealth and development office says they’re supporting the family of a British woman and are in contact with the local authorities after an incident in Thailand Leo verka has expressed his shock following a shooting at a restaurant in Dublin RTE has reported
That one man has died and another has been seriously injured in what’s thought to be a gang related incident the Irish Prime Minister confirmed there will be a full Irish police investigation into the shooting [Applause] Riot police in the Serbian Capital Belgrade barricaded themselves inside the city council building after they were attacked by anti-government protesters there have been demonstrations since election observers said there were voting irregularities in last week’s general election President vet said claims of vote rigging were lies the royal family is carrying on
Their tradition of spending Christmas at sandram today our Royal correspondent La bundock is standing by for us and there is some light we can see you now the cues are the same as they were still growing the cues are definitely growing hello happy Christmas from San jingum
The king’s private estate here in norfor not deepest darkest Northford as you right you rightly say the sun is now coming up and the cues are growing if I take a step over here you can look over my shoulder there you can see there are now two cues people lining up all hoping
To be able to push forward because the royal family traditionally come to the Sunday uh the the Christmas day service rather at St Mary Magdalene Church here and that’s when the crowds are allowed in they line the path that the Royals take and as the Royals come out of the
Church that’s when the crowds here will get a chance to to wave and perhaps to say hello and have a chat with someone let me introduce you to Sharon Libby Sharon you come all the way from Portsmouth 200 miles what time did you get here this morning I got here just
Before quarter to 6 about 5:45 this morning so you’re almost at the front what is it that makes you want to come all this way on Christmas day well I love our royal family and it’s a you it’s a lovely atmosphere and it’s a great way to spend Christmas morning
That you know I’ve I’ve you I’ve been to several Royal events and it’s lovely to come see the royal family on Christmas morning what’s so special about this this one um I well the first time I came in 2019 it’s the first time when the children when Katherine and William
Bought along Prince George and Princess Charlotte and so now I’ve made it a tradition because I’d like to see them grow through through the years and did they stop and have a chat have you chatted in the past no I’ve not been that fortunate normally they’re on the
Other side so hopefully this year I might get to talk to one or two of them and of course this isn’t the only thing you’ve been telling me you’ve done this year you you’ve kind of you you’ve you’ve coronation it haven’t you you you’ve camped for all those things on
The scale of royal fandom where would you place yourself um well I don’t do the whole Union Jack thing I don’t so if you go not low 10 to high I would say eight eight and a half pretty well I think on Christmas morning to be here
That that’s that’s a pretty good score for yourself Sharon have a nice day won’t you well lots of people have been Gathering here this morning and of course after the church service after the Royals then head indoors and everyone has their their Christmas lunch we can expect the king king’s Christmas
Message his second Christmas message this one was filmed um in Buckingham Palace inside the room just to the edge of that iconic balcony where he and the king queen stood uh after their coronation he’s not surrounded by the traditional photos we used to see the lake Queen surrounded by instead he
Stood next to a living Christmas tree which we’re told is going to be replanted at a later dat anyway for now though the folus very much here in Sandringham as the king prepares to lead members of the royal family for their traditional Christmas celebrations Laura thank
You and of course we’ll have the king’s Christmas message live on Sky News at 3:00 this afternoon the number of people who will be homeless this Christmas is expected to have increased significantly Charities say there’s been a 14% rise in the number of people sleeping rough or in temporary accommodation it also means
Many will go without a hot meal today like correspondent Molly Malone is at a kitchen in Guilford trying to change all of that and you’ve been cooking up a storm all morning haven’t you yeah they’re working hard here the ovens have been fired up since early this morning preparing uh throughout the
Day the aim is to send 500 meals to those uh that are in need this Christmas refugees those without uh permanent homes uh vulnerable and elderly people and I have to say it’s looking pretty good they’ve got a lot of food uh going on this all started about six years ago
As a family idea family initiative and theity Community now have really come together over the last uh six years and they’re they’re making a lot of food and as I said the the local butcher is here donated to we’ve had the the barber donating Christmas uh crackers and I’m
Going to bring in Matt gasin who uh started this a number of years ago tell me how did it all begin it all started from we had a tradition at home where we always had a spare space at the table which was for someone that either passed
Away that year or for an unknown guest and my daughter when she was eight and said Dad we always got so much food why don’t we invite someone so we started off having a um stranger in the house and we got up to 22 people and they got
To say we couldn’t fit any more in so we decided to do it in the local Village Hall and the first year was 78 people last year we were 567 people this year at the moment we’ve just had some more orders coming in as you know Molly and
The techs coming conly to the last minute um so we’re about 515 at the moment 516 Ms um um but it’s down for sponsors you know all we do through the organization you’ve got Vint butchers that donat turkeys they get all come from Vines but they get paid for by
Vince and M Brown transation engine POS fruit and veget all the vegetables carrots and Brussels all the fruit the onions the pets the gravy the gravy is all made fresh it’s not gravy granules we have sunale Golf Club donate money uh Village barers business crackers uh morance do the insurance um there’s just
So many sponsors and remember them all it’s difficult Sullivan Street Partners in London they donate quite a bit of money every year which helps pay for gifts cuz everyone gets gifts Crown resource um fruits everything sorry no no it that’s great to hear it’s a real Community operation isn’t it tell me a
Bit about um the people that the food is going to you said you’ve had more calls uh in the last 10 minutes or so where is this predominantly going yeah predominantly goes to sh housing um when we first started the initiative it was to host and before Co we hosted up to
300 people in a hall in Gil then Co struck we decided to start delivering next year we hope to host and deliver so a bit of a hybrid solution Everyone likes hybrid these days so we’re looking at doing that next year but the dra do go to shelter housing so we’ve got um
Riverside BN house um we’ve got Cillian house we’ve got some Catherine there’s lots of different hostiles that around the area there’s over 200 Ms in the hill for the loan but we go out to cran farm farm OT stains winda so we’ve got quite a wide uh distance we have to deliver to
Usually just 10 miles but it seems expanded thank you so much Matt uh a real sobering uh reminder I think here this morning about the work of the community of doing 300,000 people a record high number of people uh spending Christmas without a permanent home this really is a community coming together
This Christmas and I think I might potentially be able to grab a pig and blanket myself if I leave you and and start to offer up my efforts Molly I was going to ask you to get the recipe for those rast potatoes they look so crispy
Next hour come back with the re they do they’re good much better than anything I’ve ever made so yes I be sure to bring that to you it’s getting pretty loud behind me but I’ll definitely give you that recipe thank you in the meantime Jackie is here with the uh Sports menu
That makes me nervous watching that cuz they’re all ready it’s all cooked and it’s just like it’ll be fine Jackie we’re here and no one’s doing anything at home it’s very stressful and you’ve forgotten chestnuts I know not that that’s ever part of my repertoire but
Never mind move on it’ll be fine uh good morning happy Christmas to all of you it might not be a happy one though for some Chelsea fans we’ll show you how they slipped up once again the Premier League yesterday this time it was to wolves also it’s looking a bit brighter at
Rangers as they push to win the Scottish Premiership back from Celtic there’s the goals from their win at motherwell on the way and we’ve got an exclusive interview with the England manager Gareth Southgate as he discusses what could be next for him when he leaves the England Job Very few people had fridges in the 40s and 50s very PE few people had cars so the idea of the great big shop didn’t even exist so people would shop locally they would get you know you’d know your local community and um you’d buy exactly what you needed for that moment in time
So there was also very little waste it be seasonal it cuz you could see you know you go in and you see what what there is so you eat seasonally which is better for the environment better for you and um I mean look at that isn’t
That amazing so that was the one of the first convenience stores in the UK I think I think in the 50s and 60s it it started to grow hugely and before that you know people often would buy they would buy fresh for what you needed at
That time tins were very you know tined food was very popular obviously eating seasonally but it’s it’s now it’s now exploded but actually a lot of people think that buying doing these huge big shops is uh saves saves you money but actually the waste that happens of after
Those big shops whereas in fact most people are near a a convenience store and buying smaller more often often works out more budget friendly I think that there’s a bit of a reaction against that so this Christmas we’re doing a much more paired back Christmas the grown-ups are not giving each other
Presents just for the children and we’re being quite conservative about what they get and pre just that hasn’t always been that case and I know lots of other families that are doing the same thing they’re either doing Secret stand so you get one really lovely thing I think
People are much more conscious about spending obviously the cost of living has made people think really carefully about that but people are conscious about sustainability and about waste and plastic and packaging I know lots of people who are shopping in a very conscious maybe less gudy way this year [Applause] The five of us have made it out of the Car welcome to Backstage the film and TV podcast hello welcome back happy Christmas on this breakfast show this morning H it wasn’t particularly happy though for Chelsea last night there were definitely no free pres this Sky News sports bulletin is brought to you by Vitality getting more people more active live life with
[Applause] vitality I love this country a thanks for letting us share your match day experience you’ve just landed at humberside airport tell us about your day so far actually my days a little strange because turkey doesn’t use summertime I have a big advantage in flying to England because I almost land
In the time I start the journey then for me the plane is like a bed and it’s very important for you that you’re here to attend the games for whole city especially with the team going so well only game I missed this season actually uh was the game uh the president
Brother’s uh son was getting married so I have to attend in that married apart from that uh I’ve been all the games home and I can see that half of the games away so we’ve got a busy day ahead of us and I think the next stop is
The the club store to meet some of the fans let’s go meet the fans then Yeah born and raised in Hall in Hall yeah grandfa Hall everybody Hall but his D supports Le United unfortunately Yeah how important is it for you to have this interaction with the fans because when you took over you made it clear that the fans were a big part of the project for you actually our average attendance was 8,000 uh when uh we were buying the club
So uh 8,000 was not a good number for a beautiful club like this so we were dreaming to make it 15,000 145,000 now we have the 20,000 average so I can say that it’s more than the dream I’m so happy that the fans are now back to the
Stadiums and back to the stores so football is nothing without fans so our fans by the way are always you going to see today uh energic young and I think that uh the when you look at them they see in their eyes the passion for the
Club and the love for the club we’ve seen you walk through town today and the fans are coming up and there does appear to be a lot of love and that’s not always the case with football club Owners is it I don’t know about other owners because everybody has his own
Style I always have projects and we have new projects to make them happy you know last year we took them to Turkey uh for a trip uh I’m dreaming of another trip maybe uh somewhere it’s a surprise so uh to live together to enjoy together and
To share uh your pain when you lose together is always the best thing in life [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] Oh I always feel like at home when I come here actually I’m at home thank you so much and because I’m going and I’m staying so short only uh thing I can say as a last is I would like to give free drink to [Applause] everybody our opponent Mr chisana today uh this

Flight deck eating my Christmas dinner cooked by our wonderful chefs uh we also had uh a raffle we had a Christmas raffle for the whole ship so that was fun and so we’ve um reading that uh UK Personnel is serving around the world on 40 operations in in 30 different
Countries um this December is it a particularly difficult time to be away from loved ones at Christmas because you’re you’re doing a service you’re working yeah it is hard but you know it’s kind of part of the job we’re out here to you know uphold Regional security and you know kind of protect
The UK from overseas and um even on days like this you know the work never stops uh we still but we love to do it you know it’s it’s kind of what you sign up for really it’s a it’s a hard one you know spend but the whole ship just kind of comes
Together and we’re all here for each other we’re all quite literally in the same boat boom boom very good one um tell us can you tell us about what what the work is that you are doing in Fiji at the moment you know we’re just here to kind
Of like keep our relationship with all these countries um we hold a lot of Defense engagement events everywhere we go building relationships and maintain all the relationships that we’ve already got out here the defense secretary Grant shouts he said uh that I know I speak on behalf
Of the whole country in Wishing the Armed Forces a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and thanking them for all they do and that’s something that you must hear a lot people thanking you for your service yeah and and it it all really means a lot you know obviously being so
Far away from home uh for a long period of time you know every any thanks from anybody means a lot to all of us because we all do miss it at home but we all know that that this is an important job Indeed it is is there a message that
You’d like to to send home via Sky News yeah just I hope my family having a nice Christmas and I think HMS Tamar sends everybody in the UK a big Merry Christmas and happy New Year thank you so much Poppy and happy Christmas to you and the crew on HMS Tamar
Enjoy all that you can today thank you for speaking to us yeah thank you Merry Christmas Happy Christmas well back in the UK the Royal Marine band is leading thanks to Personnel serving abroad this Christmas such as poppy with a rendition of an old classic Well as we mentioned at least 7,000 Sailors soldiers and aviators will be stationed overseas this Christmas across 40 operations in 30 countries uh whether you know it by its name Carol of the Bells or from the festive Classic Home Alone you will recognize a tune I’m sure well let’s stay with the Musical
Theme now um from toilets to Tinsel Town one plumber whose lovers singing was reignited during lockdown gets his big brother break Lisa D has the Story The Sound is unashamedly 8s but comes from a guy who’ given up on music meaning what’s repeating in my mind Kev is just about to Jack in the world of Plumbing to go on tour I was singing in the bathroom they the next door neighbor heard me singing
Away and said to Paul who RS new reality records um who’s that guy singing in your bathroom he say it’s the plumber so we gets chatting tolds me he’s got a record a label told him well actually I’ve just I’ve just um built a recording studio in my Loft and reignited an album
IED 25 years ago it was locked down at home in leerer that gave Kev the time to ReDiscover his passion having been in a band decades ago the sound is shell suit perfect 8s if you like and oh nobody’s really making anything quite like this and he’ done it
All himself I was just amazed by it and I was the thing was that story of him in lockdown um trying to build back his dream that he’d had 20 years ago um it just struck me as we got we’ve got to try and put this
Out then it really kicks in there what came next shocked both of them Hollywood filmmakers heard about their story and Kev flew to La for meetings with director Billy Ray what I L about the story was it was about these two men Uh Kevin and Paul for whom music had been
Everything um and then they lost that thread for about you know 20 years of their life and then they found that thread again and saved one another um even though neither of them knew they needed to be saved I just thought that was beautiful R do it again he does have one more
Bathroom to fit in January but kev’s New Life on the road starts in the spring lisad Dow Sky News leerer well Christmas can be a difficult time for people who feel lonely especially the elderly but things have been made easier for residents at a care home in Nottingham who’ joined a pen pal
Scheme and you might be surprised to see who they’ve been paired with as Becky cotell reports ready one two three jeez Christmas elf have come to spread some festive cheer at this care home in Nottingham these children attend a local primary school and for the past couple of years they’ve been writing to
Residents forming friendships through letters this is 10-year-old Mia and her PM pal Mavis tell me about the things that you found out about each other that you’ve got in common uh we both like coloring uh we both like dogs the kids have also learned about their elderly friends childhoods I just really enjoy
Like seeing how they do like their life things and how it’s different to ours now what kind of things well they would like play all all the different games and like they wouldn’t have like devices like ours now but they would still find fun things to do when they were younger
Yeah the youngsters visit the home once a school term and it’s a joy for the residents it’s uplifting isn’t it because they talk and you can hold a conversation with them there’s a lot of the people here can’t they hold a conversation but then they forgot what you’ve said many here have dementia
Staff say they benefit hugely from these visits and of course the games a red card seven of but there have been difficult moments for the children yeah we have to have those little Chit Chats about circle of life and residents getting ill and and passing so yeah we
Have had a few a few tear and a bit upset cuz they build that relationship and you know they’re right into each other but it’s it’s a good conversation to have is part of life isn’t it and for PM Pal’s young and old it’s a rewarding relationship it makes me feel like
Really happy in life yeah I like writing lessons to them so they’re happy cuz some of them might not have people to talk to anymore like children or anything so it makes me feel really good that they have someone to like sort of talk to over letter thanks for having us
By you soon even Generations apart friendships can still flourish Becky cotell Sky News Nottingham still to come we’re hoping to get the first glimpses of the royal family in sandrin and Laura bundock hopefully will join us and talk us through our Royal correspondent stay Tuned I’m Martin brunt and I’m Sky crime correspondent my most memorable story was and still is The Disappearance of Madeline mccan please please do not Hur her please give our little girl back we aim to be the best and most trusted place for news for detectives
The first 48 hours after a murder are crucial in the search for Clues the public expects them to find Jill dando’s killer soon the British detectives are planning to meet forensic experts academics and even Witch Doctors I remember the Grimace case the SE murders of school girls Holly and
Jessica I felt I can’t undo what’s happened but I can help explain it come Ian Huntley was arrested and charged within a fortnight of the murders I’ve never murdered anyone I’ve ever raped anyone what am I in jail for the parole board has to decide if
Bronson needs to be kept locked up for the safety of the public my biggest challenge was to persuade a jail Diamond Thief to answer my letters Martin brunt Sky new news at the Old [Applause] Bailey Welcome back we’re hoping to take you to Sandringham at some point shortly for our first glimpse of the royal family this Christmas morning but first as we know Christmas is a time for all the family including our four-legged friends but it’s important we keep our pets safe
From not leaving uh chocolates under the tree to making sure we factor in the usual costs such as food and vet bills JMA Taylor is the education office at the Blue Cross and she joins me now with peanuts uh happy Christmas to you both Christmas um what are some of the the
Hazards for pets at at Christmas what what should we be looking out for this time of year okay so we know that loads of people want to spoil their pets at Christmas but certain foods for example can be toxic for our dogs so things like bones um turkey bones turkey skin we
Want to avoid chocolate raisins such as minc pies or Christmas pudding as well so all of these things we want to keep well Out Of Reach but of course we can spoil our pets too they can have a little bit of turkey breast they can have a few brussels sprouts and some
Potatoes without sort of the added salt and butter so we can spoil them but in moderation and with the right things as well turkey skin I’m intrigued by that one I wouldn’t have thought that would be on the list why so the what sorry turkey skin yeah it’s just quite fatty
So it can be quite rich and just cause some an upset stomach so we just want to avoid those unnecessary vet bills especially with the cost of living and with it being out of hours and emergencies as well so do you have a list of dos and don’ts regarding pets
Yeah so we need to be really careful around sort of wrapping paper because that can cause intestinal blockages we need to be careful of um decorations on the tree as well especially glass B balls and things like that also we’ve had a cat um few years ago coming into
The Blue Cross where it swallowed tinsel so just keep an eye on your pets realize the dangers keep them safe monitor them um and obviously just feed those sensible Foods as well avoiding chocolate mince pies keep them well Out Of Reach and hopefully we can keep our
Pets happy and safe over Christmas time yes cuz chocolate in particular I learned a few years ago it’s actually poisonous to to dogs in particular isn’t it yeah chocolates especially a poisonous to dogs um and the same with uh raisins as well and sort of those
Dried fruits so mince pies you know if your dog eats a mince pie we want to be phoning the vet as soon as possible so they can intervene yeah I didn’t know that and I suspect a lot of people don’t know that um so it’s great that you’re
Giving out this advice today now what what about in terms of uh presence for your pets because they are members of the family aren’t they and uh people will want to be giving them their presents today and we know that you know a lot of people probably can’t afford to
Buy their pets presents we’ve got some great ideas for recycling um old sort of toilet rolls and old bits of material on our website of make your own DIY uh dog and cat toy so do visit our website um you get the kids crafting but actually
I’ve just um put in a stocking just a few little presents for peanut so she’s got a little cuddly toy she’s got some um a little ball to play with a new Kong as well which is her absolute favorite um but I’ll be not overtreating her um
I’ll be sort of using those treats over a course of time because I don’t want to give her an upset stomach over Christmas time and I want to keep her nice and happy for the day as well now Gemma do you think peanuts knows it’s Christmas well so she’s only young she’s
Two years old so this is her second Christmas so we have to be a little bit careful and she has been snooping around the presents last night and we kept having to say leave um so she’s probably quite excited she doesn’t I don’t think she really
Understands it yet um but I’m sure in a few years time she will do but but she still believes in Santa though doesn’t she oh yes yes Santa’s been her stockings up there ready to go so yeah if anyone wants any advice or if anyone’s struggling um we’ve got food
Banks set up around the country for your pets as well so do visit our website if you’re struggling over the festive period um we’ve got loads of advice and tips on Blue Cross website as well so do visit it um yeah and we just wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe
Christmas as well for your pets now it used to be the the line that that was mentioned around Christmas that you know a dog is for life and not just for Christmas do you still see incidents of people giving pets over the the Christmas period and then perhaps in the
New Year them not uh wanting to hang on to them we do yeah it’s you know I wouldn’t say it’s common but we do see that happen I think a lot of people struggle financially some people might not realize the I suppose the commitment of having a pet and I think people’s
Situation changes as well and that’s not something to be embarrassed about we want people to contact us instead of dumping pets contact us so that we can arrange to take them in safely and find them loving new homes and did I hear you correctly mentioning that with with food
Banks they now cater for pets and so give out pet food as well yeah so Blue Cross has set up U numerous uh pet food banks across the country to help people feed their pets because we understand that pets are a really important part of people’s lives their family aren’t they
And a lot of people were feeding their own food that they were getting from the banks to their pets because they pet their pets first so we wanted to help support them so visit our website and find the local um Pet Food Bank that’s closest to you and we’re there to
Support you if if needed okay chairman thank you so much for all speaking to us happy Christmas to you and of course to peanuts thank you happy Christmas Happy Christmas thank you hundreds of people gathered in Athens last night to make their Christmas wishes heard the event was
Organized by the municipality of Athens and saw Athenians and tourists write their Christmas with me wishes even and messages onto paper lanterns and send them floating into the night sky okay well let’s see what the uh Skies over wherever you are will be doing today warm memories wherever you go The weather sponsored by katar Airways it’s looking unsettled into the new year and mostly mild with snow largely restricted to Northern Hills it’s cold in the far north mild but Breezy elsewhere without breakes of rain spreading across the Southwest Northern parts have a scattering of showers Wales
And Central England will see rain taking over this morning while Southern England looks wet throughout the south of Ireland will be wet for a time too largely drying later on elsewhere Northern parts can expect showers frequent and prolonged over Scotland and bringing snow to Northern Hills it’ll be

Regions the foreign office says it’s supporting the family of a woman missing in Thailand after a scuba boat capsized the Roy family arrive at church in sandran ready set go the serpentine swimming club’s annual Christmas Day race is now underway in sports billionaire sir Jim Radcliffe completes a partial takeover
Of Manchester United after more than a year of talks but there’s yet another setb for big spending Chelsea as they lose once again in the Premier League this time at wolves woo W coming home for Christmas the special surprise for one Texan Woman and the Royal Marine band leads recognitions to the thousands of personnel serving abroad this Christmas Christmas uh we’re going to start with the uh royal family and their arrival at St Mary’s Magdalene Church in Sandringham Laura bundock is standing by to speak to us about this tradition that happens every year there they are just arriving a few moments ago we see there uh King
Charles along with uh Princess Anne heading the family as they walk to the St Mary modlin church and uh Laura bandok our Royal correspondent uh watching these pictures as we see them coming in these are the very latest they’re presumably inside the church now Laura oh we haven’t we haven’t got Laura
Bundock at the moment hopefully we’ll get her up a little later on but uh they you see those were the latest pictures of the Royal Family making their way to the St Mary Magdalene Church and uh presumably by now our inside will update you um when they leave and get to see
The crowds that have been queuing since about 400 a.m. this morning to see them in the meantime gaza’s Health Ministry says at least 68 Palestinians were killed in Gaza on Sunday after an Israeli air strike hit a refugee camp in central Gaza the ministry said those fatalities include at least 12 women and
Seven children the IDF says it’s reviewing the report and is committed to minimizing harm to civilians Nicole Johnston joins us now from Jerusalem Nicole what’s the very latest that you can tell us about that air strike a very heavy attack in the central part of Gaza dozens of people killed
According to Palestinian Health officials it happened in al- magazi this is an area where Israel has told people to evacuate from in the middle of Gaza there’s some 130,000 Palestinians still in that area and over the last few days tens of thousands of them have been getting out but certainly this air
Strike happened uh according to all the reports on Christmas Eve it’s been a heavy few days of fighting in Gaza especially in the North in jabal refugee camp shajia we’ve seen dramatic pictures come in of whole neighborhoods whole towns in the north of the Gaza Strip
Leveled to the ground and all of this has happened in the same week that the United Nations passed a security Council resolution to increase Aid to Gaza but it didn’t come with any kind of ceasefire or temporary pause or cation of hostilities so for the people inside
Gaza they’ve been saying to me over the last couple of days one of their fears during this Christmas New Year festive period is that the world will look away that over the next 10 days while many people in the west are celebrating with their families and en enjoying the break
From work their eyes will be averted from what is going on in Gaza Israel says that it will continue its campaign they’ve been talking about more targeted uh Warfare in Gaza but at this stage we’ve seen nothing of the sort according to the Palestinian Health officials still very large bombardment taking
Place and in the end it’s the civilians who appear to be caught up in all of that many women and children being killed on a daily basis Israel also came out overnight and said that it had discovered a large tunnel infrastructure under jabalia refugee camp a twostory
Tunnel in effect the first level 10 m underground the second level dozens of meters underground and it goes to show just how sophisticated the infrastructure Hamas has underneath the Gaza Strip Nicole thank you well Christian leaders around the world are using their sermons today to highlight the suffering of children
Caught up in the Israel Hamas war in his sermon today the Archbishop of Canter will compare the conditions faced by children in the region to those faced by Jesus saying today a crying child is in a Manger somewhere in the world nobody willing or able to help his parents who desperately need
Shelter or in an incubator in a hospital low on electricity like Al Ali in Gaza surrounded by conflict maybe he lies in a house that still Bears the marks of the horrors of October the 7th with family members killed and a mother who feared for her
Life in his Christmas Eve a address the pope also focused on the holy lands he said The Clash of arms even today prevents Jesus from finding room in the world on this night however Jesus the son of David after nine months in Mary’s womb is born in Bethlehem the city of
David tonight our hearts are in Bethlehem where the Prince of Peace is once more rejected by the futile logic of War by the Clash of arms that even today prevents him from finding room in the world the number of people who will be homeless this Christmas is expected to have increased significantly Charities
Say there’s been a 14% rise in the number of people sleeping rough or in temporary accommodation it also means many will go without a hot meal today our correspondent Molly Malone is at a kitchen in Guilford trying to change that and by my timing they should have almost completed their Christmas Day
Meal your timing is spot on Jillian they’re getting ready to uh box up the last bits of food we’ve got the final round of uh potatoes in the oven now and there’s been a real big uh Community effort going on this morning we’ve had the local butcher here donating uh produ
But as you can see here we’re we’re up we’re they’re getting busy to ready to box up their meals 500 meals they’re aiming for they made just over 500 last year but they’re aiming for around 500 uh this year to be sent right across the community to those within a 10 mile
Radius of Gilford and it’s for people really that are in need this Christmas so hundreds of thousands of people left homeless a record high uh this Christmas people that are lonely people that are in uh Care Homes uh and without uh family and you can see here the number
Of tables getting ready it’s it’s quite quite an organized operation I have to say um but but we’ll uh see those that the uh meals are being delivered to later those uh and needs and food from food which they’ll be very welcome this Christmas Molly thank you did you get that potato
Recipe no but it’s coming I promise next hour okay Molly thank you the royal family is arriving on their traditional uh spending Christmas at sandream today we’ve seen Shel them arriving our Royal correspondent Laura bondock is standing by for us I presume they’re inside Mary Magdalene Church now
Laura yeah that’s right there were a couple of services that take place in the morning there’s an early one and to that we saw the king we saw princess and we saw the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh heading into that early service that’s not the main event that’s not why all
These Crowds Are Here let me just if I get the camera man to look around there you can see the crowds really are starting together here at sanre I call these kind of some of these ones at the back the fair weather crowds because it was not dark when they arrived there are
Two lines now the ones that I’m stood next to you though are the Die Hard fans let me just introduce you to to Stephanie ABA Stephanie look at your flag all the way from Washington DC D tell me about your journey to Sandringham well um we learned that
Everything was shut down there’d be no trains or buses or anything so in the about 1:00 in the morning we were able to schedule an Uber to come at 4:00 a.m. to bring us out here in the pitch black dark here we are why can I ask well I
Love the Roy family I’ve been keeping up with them and their history for some years now and it’s an opportunity to see them on this very special day tell me what is what is it about um our royal family that that that appeals to you that you like so much that’s an
Interesting question question so I started out with Diana little girl watching her wedding so of course it was all of the princes and the fairy tale and and all of that and I was really drawn into that and then they had their children and I was keeping up with that
And then you’re just into it and you’re engaged and before you know you’re into it and then you start digging deeper and realizing the history you know of the monarchy and so we’re here we’re spending more than a week and we’re going to the Royal palaces and learning
And doing things related to to the British Monarchy overall definely thank you very much let me just also introduce Karen Anvil sat here Karen hello good morning everyone happy Christmas to you um tell us why you’ve taken the money shot as a royal fan here tell me about
The photo you it was unintentional money shots by the way can I just make that clear so I literally so this was I think seven six years ago now six years ago um I took a photo I said good morning to them I said Merry Christmas they all
Looked over hey wait a sec what do you say they who are we talking about the Royal Fab Four so yeah as was so I did I took that I posted it on Twitter just saying oh I’m here and it started trending and the rest as they say is
History so we’re not going to get that money shot today what what would what would be your money shot of Christmas day today 203 I would like to say the Fantastic Five how about that the Wales family I love them I think they’re AB absolutely wonderful so and that’s why
We’re here today we weren’t actually going to come but with you know recent events and things like that we wanted to show our support to them because we think they’re brilliant don’t we yeah brilliant guys enjoy your day enjoy your morning um so they open up the gates
Here shortly which means this crowd will then push their way forward to try and NAB the best the best spots and of course a little later after the service we’ll expect the king to lead the RO family to perhaps come and say hello to some of the crowds here and then at 3:00
This afternoon the king’s Christmas message the content are kept underw wrapped but it will be his personal reflection of the year and what a year 2023 has been for now though the focus here at Sandringham we expecting the king to lead the royal family as part of their traditional Christmas celebrations
Laura thank you be back to you a little later on well it’s the peak of Christmas festivities today and tomorrow but our next guest lives and breathes Christmas he’s even been dubbed Britain’s most festive man well joining me now is Jeff stonebanks welcome to you Jeff yeah I
Can see where you get the title from um tell us when you tell us when you first started your collection because You’ got a huge collection of of bubles and such like haven’t you I have indeed I mean say hello to Frosty then Jillian before I put him down happy Christmas Frosty I
Started quite a long time ago I mean I’m 70 now my parents had a pub in the cotswalds and my mom used to like to decorate it because she had opened on Christmas Day and people would come in so she always made the area look really
Nice um and then by about the age of 10 I sort of took over and the rest is history so to speak and I’ve been collecting It All My Life um and you can see a range of trees behind me in this particular room those on the screen
There now is a new ones this year on the top left is the watering can the Snowman there on the right I made that in primary school back in the late 50s uh and then the um bottom right one there you’ve got um an oyster shell that I
Bought recently and I’ve got a large collection of decorations from the white house uh when I spent time in the states in the late ’90s um and the one that was pictured there was this one here that was the 2018 decoration and that was uh in commemorating harri S Truman who and
It represents three particular changes that he made to the White House during his presidency but yeah I I mean as you see I love Christmas and I’ve got so many collections around I’ve got about 30 crates that I have to put away in the loft and this year for the first time I
Had to get help so I used an app called air taskers to help me get some support uh I’ve ented a competition for Great Britain brigas collectors as well but it’s an Ever growing collection but the older you get the harder it is to get
Them all out put them all up and make the place look C festive but someone has to do it hey I can imagine with 30 crates did you say I did Julian yes so which is your prized most precious b ball would she say um I’ve got quite a
Few to be honest but there was a two uh little decorations that my grandmother bought me back in the 1960s um they’re two little wire figures and um I say I’ve treasured those very carefully and the one I mentioned just now this snowman that I actually made
When I was a child is quite precious to me because it’s it’s lived almost as long as me um over my shoulder here you can see uh this shoulder sorry youve got this um white Christmas tree it’s actually knitted uh and a friend made it
For me I saw it on Facebook a few years ago and uh really fell in love with it and she knitted it for me up behind me as well there’s a white fairy um on a tree there you can see that fairy dates back to 1962 and was bought in Woolworth
And sat a top the Christmas tree of my parents Pub for 30 years she was a bit gray when I inherited her after my parents retired in the 80s uh but she’s had a good wash and yet she’s come up like clean and looks really good but
Yeah lots of special ones Jillian Jeff thank you so much for sharing your collection with us um I’m old enough to remember Woolworth and and know exactly what what you mean thank you so much happy Christmas Chas you deserve your title Britain’s most festive man happy Christmas thank
You well they do say Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year and it certainly was for Lydia ceron from Texas and now we have one more present for you and here comes right here Santa Claus is Here well during a shift she was surprised by her daughter a member of the US Marine Corps who returned home for the holidays needless to say she was given the rest of the day off to spend uh time reunited with her family well back in the UK the Royal
Marine band is leading thanks to Personnel serving abroad this Christmas with the rendition of an old Classic whether you know it by its name Carol of the Bells or from the festive Classic Home Alone you will recognize the tune almost 7,000 saor soldiers and aviators will be uh stationed overseas this Christmas across 40 operations in 30 countries well Jackie is going to be
Playing that tune as she rushes off do you put that turkey in the oven I just want to go back to Mr christas where do you stand on blinking tree lights I can’t I can’t do them I can’t I can’t look at them as soon as I get like stay
Just stay yeah no one setting I’m with you are you definitely there was too much blinking going on there um Merry Christmas everybody uh have a great day today it might not be such a happy one for some Chelsea fans we’ll show you how they slipped up once
Again in the Premier League on Christmas Eve this time it was at wolves plus it’s looking a bit brighter at Rangers as they push to win the Scottish Premiership back from Celtic there’s the goals from their win at motherwell on the way and we’ve got an exclusive interview with the England manager Gareth
Southgate as he discusses what could be next for him whenever he leaves is current Position 2023 new year bringing with it New Hope it’s just incredible that’s what I like about it give us a song then Rob good news it’s not extinct to start planting a whole new rainforest heartwarming to help hovers India the first to land south of the Moon the lonelier sheep has
Been rescued love it did amazing best story of the Day was saying i’ I’ve got a Sky News break on my own phone news never Stops very few people had fridges in the 40s and 50s very PE few people had cars so the idea of the great big shop didn’t even exist so people would shop locally they would get you know you’d know your local community and um you’d buy exactly
What you needed for that moment in time so there was also very little waste seal cuz you could see you know you go in and you see what what there is so you eat seasonally which is better for the environment better for you and um I mean
Look at that that amazing so that was the one of the first convenience stores in the UK I think I’m think in the 50s and it started to grow hugely and before that you know people often would buy they would buy fresh for what you needed
At that time tins were very you know tined food was very popular obviously eating seasonally but it’s it’s now it’s now exploded but actually a lot of people think that buying doing these huge big shops is uh saves saves you money but actually the waste that happens as after those big shops whereas
In fact most people are near a a convenience store and buying smaller more often often works out more budget friendly I think that there’s a bit of a reaction against that so this Christmas we’re doing a much more paired back Christmas the grown-ups are not giving each other
Presents it’s just for the children and we’ve been quite conservative about what they get and previous to that hasn’t always been that case and I know lots of other families that are doing the same thing they’re either doing a secret stand so you get one really lovely thing
I think people are much more conscious about spending obviously the cost of living has made people think really carefully about that but people are conscious about sustainability and about waste and plastic and packaging I know lots of people who are shopping in a very conscious maybe less gudy way this
Year welcome back to Christmas breakfast now they may have played on Christmas Eve but there were definitely no presence for Chelsea last night this Sky News sports bulletin is brought to you by Vitality getting more people more active live life with [Applause] Vitality I love this country Ain thanks for letting us share your match day experience you just landed at humberside airport tell us about your day so far actually my days is a little strange because turkey doesn’t use summertime I have a big advantage in flying to England because I
Almost land in the time I start the journey then for me the plane is like a bed and it’s very important for you that you’re here to attend the games for whole city especially with the team going so well only game I missed this season actually actually uh was the game
Uh the president’s brother’s uh son was getting married so I have to attack in that mared apart from that uh I beenn all the games home and I can see that half of the games away we’ve got a busy day ahead of us and I think the next
Stop is the the club store to meet some of the fans let’s go meet the fans there yeah born and raised in Hall in Hall yeah grandfather Hall everybody home but his dad supports lead United unfortunately Yeah how important is it for you to have this interaction with the fans because when you took over you made it clear that the fans were a big part of the project for you actually our average was 8,000 when uh we were buying the club so uh 8,000 was not a good number
For a beautiful club like this so we were dreaming to make it 15,000 14 15,000 now we have the 20,000 average so I can see that it’s more than the dream I’m so happy that the fans are now back to the stadiums and back to the stores
So football is nothing without fans so our fans by the way are always you can see today uh energic young and I think that the when you look at them they see in their eyes the passion for the club and the love for the club we’ve seen you
Walk through town today and the fans are coming up and there does appear to be a lot of love and that’s not always the case with football club Owners is it I don’t know about other owners because everybody has his own style I always have projects and we have new projects
To make them happy you know last year we took them to Turkey uh for a trip uh I’m dreaming of another trip maybe uh somewhere it’s a surprise so uh to live together to enjoy together and to share uh your pain when you lose together is always the best thing in life [Applause] [Applause] I always feel like at home when I come here actually I’m at home thank you so much and uh because I’m going and I’m staying so short only uh thing I can say as a last is I would like to give free drink to [Applause] everybody our opponent Mr Christiana today uh

Coming up the royal family is in Sandringham for Christmas we’ll be joined by our Royal commentator alist Bruce the pilot put his hand on the top of my they tried to follow me into my hotel room received messages to keep it quiet these women were once members of an elite Squadron the Red Arrows a dream job that turned into a nightmare of sexual harassment SAS and
Bullying how do you describe the culture that you witnessed and experienced absolutely toxic some Pilots were untouchable Oh Oh Good morning you’re watching Sky News breakfast on this Christmas morning now the royal family are gathering at Sandringham for their traditional Christmas festivities in the last hour King Charles was seen heading to St Mary Magdalene Church for the Christmas service he was joined by uh Princess Anne the Princess Royal and followed by
Edward the Duke of Edinburgh and Sophie The Duchess of Edinburgh well Sky Royal commentator Alistar bruer joins me now good morning to you alist happy Christmas and the uh pictures that we just saw there that is part of the tradition which uh carries on today as every other Christmas isn’t it yes the
Royal family like to go to Holy Communion which is a traditional moment in the Christian calendar where uh they celebrate the Last Supper of Jesus Christ at the beginning of his life and then later today the royal family will return to the church in order to attend
Mattins and then you’ll see all the family with them particularly those who are old enough to come and it will be an occasion when quite a lot of people do gather at Sandringham in order to watch the royal family go and do what many people up and down the United Kingdom
Who have a Christian faith choose to do on Christian on Christmas day which is to go to church we’re looking at the pictures now we couldn’t spot uh Queen Camila uh was she there is she there this morning do we know the queen will be at sandream today
Uh she will have made decisions no doubt which I’m not aware of and whether we could see I couldn’t really me very clearly haven’t got my glasses on but um the truth is that she will probably if she’s there be going to uh attend mattins later on today which is really
The focus of the event and Holy Communion is much more private much more a moment for the family just to be together and there continue a tradition that really King George I 6 followed and the late Queen followed and goes right back to when King George V uh too as a
Member of the family who enjoyed to have Christmas at Sandringham they love being at Sandringham this time of year and it’s a chance for everybody who works on and around Sandringham to come together and many do for those two services is first of all Holy Communion and then
Later which we will see the matens and last year we saw uh Queen K’s family attending Christmas at sandrian for the very first time presumably they’ll be there this year also well how the king and queen choose to bring together family at this very special family time uh has evolved and I think
That it is important that they continue to try and make sure that uh family is at the focus of it I’m sure when the King speaks to the nation later today he will reflect upon the importance of being together as a family uh and as a
Family of Nations and you know as the now crowned King he has been through a year where much has been focused on the the process of him becoming King fully through the Christian process and I think that this Christmas time is a good chance for him to reflect on that with
His family and obviously with the Queen’s family too and tell us a bit more about the um celebrations and the Traditions that will be continued because it it all begins on on Christmas Eve which is a a nod to their German Heritage isn’t it well I think we all have reflections of
The history of the whole of Europe really because Christmas trees I’ve got one behind me here are very much something that was brought into the country as a tradition to celebrate uh from German traditions and I think that you know some families choose to exchange gifts on Christmas Eve
Certainly the royal family traditionally does and that gives a chance on the eve of Christmas for all the family to come together and give whatever they want to each other and then they have their supper last night and then this morning it is very much a focus on church and of
Course the king is supreme governor of the Church of England he also has a focal role but not a leading role in the concept of all the nations and the Commonwealth’s ideas of faith and they differ across the whole of the world and I think that the king cares about that
Very much but for him with his family and his own private Faith the chance to Worship in a church that he has known since he was a young boy uh is a part of that family tradition that I think the king likes to treasure and I think many
Families do if they can and ala looking ahead to the King’s Christmas message at uh 3:00 this afternoon uh what do you think we can expect tradition well it is a chance for the king to speak directly to the Commonwealth and also particularly to the United Kingdom and I think you’re
Right he will traditionally follow that encompassing of the Christmas message of hope I don’t know how he will choose to do it but he tends to touch upon very similar things that the late Queen did this is his second and it is 75 years since his grandfather King George I 6
Referred to the very recent birth of our present King and it shows that you know the monarchs addressing the nation is a continuing tradition that goes back to King George V that started at Sandringham and although this one has not been done at sandram I mean the
Queen used to do it live at the beginning of her Reign that has ended but the king we know has made his message and we don’t know the contents yet but he does tend to touch upon things that are uh very much his own concern and it’s the only time he is
Genuinely permitted to communicate directly with us without clearing it first although they do discuss it uh with number 10 dining Street we should look forward to that at uh 3 pm aliser happy Christmas to you thanks for speaking to us and of course we’ll bring you the king’s Christmas message here on Sky
News at 3:00 this afternoon well Christmas can be a difficult time for people who feel lonely especially the elderly but things have been made easier for residents at a care home in Nottingham who’ve joined a pen pal scheme and you might be surprised to see who they’ve been paired
With as Becky cotol reports ready one two three jeez Christmas elves have come to spread some festive cheers at this care home in Nottingham these children attend a local primary school and for the past couple of years they’ve been writing to Residents forming friendships through letters this is 10-year-old Mia and her
PM pal Mavis tell me about the things that you found out about each other that you’ve got in common uh we both like coloring uh we both like dogs the kids have also learned about their elderly friends childhoods I just really enjoy like seeing how they do like their life
Things and how it’s different to ours now what kind of things well they would like play all all the different games and like they wouldn’t have like devices like ours now but they would still find fun things to do when they were younger yeah the youngsters visit the home once
A school term and it’s a joy for the residents it’s uplifting isn’t it because they talk and you can hold a conversation with there’s a lot of people here can’t they hold a conversation but then they forgot what You’ said many here have dementia staff say they benefit hugely from these
Visits and of course the games a r card seven of but there have been difficult moments for the children yeah we have to have those little Chit Chats about circle of life and residents getting ill and and passing so yeah we have had a
Few a few tear and a bit upset cuz they build that relationship and you know they’re right into to each other but it’s it’s a good conversation to have it’s part of life isn’t it and for Palm Pal’s young and old it’s a rewarding relationship it makes me feel like
Really happy and like I like writing letters to them so they’re happy cuz some of them might not have people to talk to anymore like children or anything so it makes me feel really good that they have someone to like sort of talk to over a letter thanks for having us
Even Generations apart friendships can still flourish Becky cotell Sky News Nottingham now from toilets to Tinsel Town one plumber whose love of singing was reignited during lockdown gets his big break Lisa doubt has the Story The Sound is unashamedly 80s but comes from a guy who’ given up on Music Kev is just about to Jack in the world of Plumbing to go on tour I was singing in the bathroom the next door neighbor heard me singing away and said to Paul who owns a new reality records um who’s that guy singing in your bathroom he says it’s the plumber
So we get chatting tolds me he’s got a record a label told him well actually I’ve just I’ve just um built a recording studio in my Loft and reignited a an album I started 25 years ago it was lockdown at home in leerer that gave Kev the time to ReDiscover his pass fashion
Having been in a band decades ago the sound is shell suit perfect 8s if you like and I thought oh nobody’s really making anything quite like this and he done it all himself I was just amazed by it and know was the thing was that story of him in
Lockdown um trying to build back his dream that he’ had 20 years ago um it just struck me as we’ve got we’ve got to try and put this out then it really kicks in there what came next shocked both of them Hollywood filmmakers heard about their story and
Kev flew to La for meetings with director Billy Ray what I loved about the story was it was about these two men Uh Kevin and Paul for whom music had been everything um and then they lost that thread for about you know 20 years of their life and then they found that
Thread again and saved one another um even though neither of them knew they needed to be saved I just thought that was beautiful he does have one more bathroom to fit in January but kev’s new life on the road starts in the spring Lisa Sky News leerer this is Sky News breakfast coming
Up planning to settle down and what some Christmas Telly today I’ll be getting some top recommendations from TV critic Toby L I’m Martin brunt and I’m Sky’s crime correspondent my most memorable story was and still is The Disappearance of madlin McAn please please do not ha her please give our little girl back we aim to be the best and most trusted place for news for detectives
The First 48 hours after a murder are crucial in the search for Clues the public expects them to find Jill dando’s killer soon the British detectives are planning to meet forensic experts academics and even Witch Doctors I remember the grimmest case the SE murders of school girls Holly and
Jessica I felt I can’t undo what’s happened but I can help explain It Dean Huntley was arrested and charged within a fortnight of the murders I’ve ever murdered anyone I’ve ever raped anyone what am I in jail for the parole board has to decide if Bronson needs to be kept locked up up for the safety of the public my biggest challenge was to
Persuade a jail Diamond Thief to answer my letters Martin brunt Sky News at the Old [Applause] Bailey I just want to bring you this photo which has just been released to us from the uh wales’s a black and white shot of their children uh Prince George princess Charlotte and Prince Louie there some previous photos of this uh black and white genre were released of the whole
Family but this is the first time they have released this photograph of the three children now I’m sure many of you are looking forward to settling down after Christmas dinner and watching some festive favorites on the television well let’s see what TV critic Toby Earl recommends you watching today happy
Christmas to you Toby now tell us what yes you are on a it’s Christmas it’s Christmas day today it’s not tomorrow oh I’m in so much trouble well let’s see let’s see what are you recommending that that people watch after they’ve had their fill of of turkey and Brussels sprouts and the
Likes well know the broadcasters will be hoping they aren’t broadcasting turkeys of their own Jillian uh on on Christmas Day and I don’t think they will be particularly not with Doctor Who Um the special arriving on BBC 1 at 5: to 6 this evening and this marks the start of the
Shooty gatw era as the 15th doctor Russell T Davis has returned as a showrunner we had these three 60th anniversary specials with David Tenant and Katherine Tate reunited and Gat was introduced there but now here he is flying solo briefly solo before he’s joined by his new companion Millie Ruby
Sunday played by Millie Gibson and it is just um it is really exciting to have shuy gatw in this role it’s really exciting to have the doctor back and particularly because it’s being um helmed by Russell T Davis you you your kind of mind boggles at the
Possibilities of what he will do with with gatwa who is such uh I think such a sort of such a screen presence I mean he’s Chic and he’s cheeky um so let’s call him shiky um and he he he emanates warmth which is which is you know what
The doctor needs and this is a global event of course because it’s while being broadcast the B BBC in this country globally it’s being um broadcast on Disney plus um and and so there is a worldwide fan base which will be thrilled um by the uh the doctor’s
Return well well tell you what Toby should we take a look at the Shiki Gata as you uh describing as the 15th doctor Merry Christmas I’m the doctor what’s up there go a yeah Time Travelers are great like wow hold on side who are you so there he is shoy gatw we’ll be
Seeing more of him um this afternoon this early evening goblins and snow what could be Christmas more christmy than Goblin LS and snow yeah no if that didn’t make you want to watch I don’t know what will uh what about ghosts tell us about that yeah this is this is the
Um the the The Ensemble sitcom um brought to you by Matthew bton Simon faraby Martha how Douglas Jim hock Lawrence Rickard and Ben wbond you might also know them as the horrible history’s crew or the team behind Bill and this reaches its conclusion this is the last
Ever episode of the sitcom and uh there is again I talked about the fan base of Doctor Who this also has such uh such a fan base there will be tears if you’re not a fan um what you I mean this the ending might not make that much sense to
You I would recommend you go back from the start but the fans of the show who’ve been with it um throughout its run um will be teary eyed by the end um it is such a terrific pre such a terrific sitcom and uh and it is a real achievement to
Produce such a successful and widely loved and acclaimed pre-watershed sitcom so tears you think not not laughs there will be laughs there’s a great joke about Italian food and in in this um and I I don’t want to give it away but there will be tears because it it is
Wrapping up several years worth of ghosts and this is it this is the cast this is the show ending um and there is a final scene which I’m not going to spoil um but will definitely generate uh a few tears for sure it’ll be it is a
Warm departure for a warm show okay next up Tabby MCAT yeah we’ve got this we’ve had kind of had this um the tradition now of of like a Julia Donaldson actual sleer adaptation at Christmas we had the smeds and the smooth last year we’ve had Stickman the snail in the well and now
Tabby mtat the story of a busker’s cat I didn’t mean for it to rhyme but it happened um and and he who who loses his Busker friend but finds a new family and this is a great for the this is a real family watch with um with this story of
Of friendship and loss and then um love as as well uh and there’s a great there’s a great vocal cast for this you got Rob ryen so deru Kad Lloyd Joanna scanon and jod Whitaker as well as Su Moma all involved a from the makers of the GFF bound to be fantastic would
Gladly very oh it is it is and it is lovely and it’s funny and in fact there are there are some Easter eggs there are some Junior Donaldson actual sleer Easter eggs in there as well so if you keep your eyes peeled you will notice a couple of references to some of their
Other works okay let’s have a look at some real life comedy Now Caroline Hearn on BBC 2 yeah and and and I know I spoke about people sort of being somewhat sad um by the end of ghost this this is all this is also a bit of a tear jerker in
In in in the um this documents the I mean blazing Talent of of Caroline AAR and the contributors here include her longtime friend and Associate writing partner Craig cash uh Steve cougan Henry normal people who worked with her for a long Peri of time John Thompson who KN
Known her for years and this really this tells the story of how she came to be the star that she was and how how how her Talent bloomed and flourished and um she she died in 2016 and she was only 52 um but what she managed to cram in
Between then and now um is quite extraordinary and and this does go behind the scenes of some of those works like the Mrs Merton show we’ve got some footage from I don’t know if it’s unseen but certainly I haven’t noticed seen it before footage from from that um and uh
And it talks about her relationships her friendships and the way people speak about her just shows that the light she gave to them I mean they great cash at times um struggles to really uh articulate his feelings for his friend and he still it’s still very present the
Loss and it is a loss you know for all of us in if it doesn’t sound too TR in the fact that she had such great talent and and was capable of so much more and it was it was awful for her to be taken
At such a young age but more of a a celebration of her work it’s not going to leave us very much a celebration of of her work while while addressing some of the some of the issues that she encountered through her life as well but it is brilliant and Steve Gan says she
Would be appalled by the pretention that I’ve shown throughout this documentary I mean it is there is some there is deprecation in there as well generated by how she would have felt they they know how she would have felt about them talking about her vs Christmas channel four uh yeah uh
Yes Mo I mean who can’t relate to a cat that finds out that there are far too many people coming around being far too noisy and all they want is a little bit of peace and quiet so yeah this adaptation of the Judith Kerr um story
Is uh is is is so I mean I I say lovely and that sounds like a really really sort of uh banal word but it is just really smashing and again there’s a great cast I think you see Benedict cbat CLA Foy and Jo do miror Margy and this
Really is the story of how Moog ends up on the roof during Christmas and why he ends up on the roof why why mo why she ends up on the roof at Christmas and there’s a there’s a there’s a brilliant song in it as well like a dream sequence
Song um voiced by Sophia Alis Becker that um I mean who knows I mean maybe maybe it could have been released as a single uh we’ve just got time for one more about uh lanterns Athens lanterns is that right well we’ve got the highest Before Christmas with with James Nisbet
And Timothy SPO a seasonal tale of bank robbery mistaken identity and a get-rich quick scheme and uh and and James nesb here plays an out andout villain a bank robber who a young boy mistakenly who thinks he he actually thinks that the bank robber is Timothy SP he think he’ll
Get a few quid off him if he helps him out and uh this is uh this this young lad who helps him out he’s kind of like a a hooligan sort of an apprentice hooligan who doesn’t really like Christmas but by the end of the story
Has has his cockles warmed maybe th a little always love a a lovely warm ending Toby thank you very much for taking us through your selection there happy Christmas to you Merry Christmas let’s take a look at the weather for you now warm memories wherever you goly the weather sponsored by katar
