All these countries ‘cut carbon’ by having China make everything.
He’s comparing the figures against 1970, whereas most people (such as the EU targets) are against the 1990 numbers, which were much higher. Not that the overall reduction is a bad thing and shouldn’t be celebrated, but this is the spectator doing some wonky maths to tie in with their editorial stance.
Yeah while we pass our emissions to other Countries cause we are mainly or only interested in banking/services
Sad how some people are still trying to diminish this achievement.
Guys, this is overwhelming a good thing.
It may be fashionable to shit on every good piece of good about the UK, but this is objectively a good thing (that we’re doing well).
We may still have a long way to go but we are on the right path.
This is great. Hope we continue on this path.
Feels to me this is an area the UK should be a world leader in. Get ourselves sorted and then help other countries to.
Easy to cut carbon when all your factories and carbon sources have been offshored to China. Lets not fool ourselves.
The comments on this sub on articles about anything the UK is excelling in just sums up everything wrong with this country.
So many whinging, miserable fucks who, largely due to their entrenched political positions, can’t possibly comprehend that the UK isn’t a sinking pit of failure and despair.
That must mean we have cheap energy right?
Right?
Because renewables are cheap right?
Right?
That’s fabulous. Maybe the solution was always to double energy costs, to stifle business.
Cause people can’t afford to do anything or go anywhere
Now let’s drive down energy costs by building a ton of wind farms and a couple of nuclear plants over the next 10-15 years.
While it’s great, it helps we have a service based economy and have basically shipped out our manufacturing to countries using less environmental energy. If you have a phone made in China then I always assume the worst that it was made using coal.
Is this due to infrastructure improvements or just because nobody can afford to heat their homes anymore?
This is an amazing stat, but we as a country source a significant amount of our purchases from other countries with massive carbon outputs, outputs that exist because we offshored our production there.
You mean export the emissions.
I was back in the uk for a while, and the amount of waste is incredible, everything is packaged in thick plastic, edible food thrown away, mountains of disposable vapes.
I’ve given this government a lot of well deserved shit, but this is actually one thing I’m happy they’ve done for us. Obviously one good deed doesn’t wash away all the bad, but it’s something.
Great achievement. For the next step to reduce it by 75%, stop politicians taking helicopters and private jets willy nilly.
We also have a lot less heavy industry than we did back then.
OK. I mean, that’s great isn’t it?
Or is it because the country has been crippled at the knees so badly that none of us can afford to get in the car and drive anywhere?
Wooo let’s take the win and then wave it in everyone’s face like a single world cup win! It’s traditional 🤣
