BBC Scotland issued more error corrections in the past year than all of the broadcasters’ other UK regional and national offices combined.
Analysis of the BBC’s official corrections and clarifications page shows that, of the 66 errors which have been corrected so far in 2023, six were for Scottish output.
In comparison, neither BBC Wales nor BBC Northern Ireland have issued a single correction.
Five regional or local English BBC offices – London, Midlands, Hereford & Worcester, Tyne & Wear, and East – have each issued a single correction over the past year.
A spokesperson for the corporation said BBC Scotland broadcast “considerably more” output than other national and regional UK offices.
The remaining 55 corrections all related to UK-wide output, though some of these errors may have also appeared on devolved broadcasts.
Radio 4 was the BBC channel which issued the most error corrections in 2023. Seventeen clarifications had to be issued for the station.
BBC Radio 1 and Radio 2 each issued a single correction, while BBC Radio Scotland issued two.
On television, BBC One issued the most corrections. Eleven were directly linked to the channel, while two more were linked to its News at Ten broadcast.
BBC Two issued five corrections, while BBC One Scotland issued two. A further error was linked to Reporting Scotland, which is also shown on BBC One Scotland.
As someone already suggested, they are the front line anti body protection of the state, the voice of the status quo establishment.
And any threat, in this case over half of Scotland, will be set upon, traduced, and lied about for that self-preservation.
No wonder no one buys their out of date and time TV tax. No wonder no one listens or tunes in anymore.
I guess all those mad nats poring over every word they write or say and demanding corrections for everything even if it’s just the most minor of technicalities makes it worth it, if you then get to write a story like this and imply something.
It’s a conspiracy if you try really hard to believe it is
I’m sure the unionists that I’ve blocked ie. Velociraptor under another name for example, are blaming the Scotnats. But without reading the article what’s to say it isn’t just BBC Scotland being a bit inept overall regardless of affiliation? Halk.
For reference, here are the corrections in question

“The programme provided an update on a story concerning Michael Matheson MSP and high data charges incurred in relation to the use of his Parliamentary iPad. Mr Matheson has previously referred to iPad data being used rather than the device itself. We apologise that our language wasn’t clear enough in one of our bulletins and have reminded the programme team of the importance of clarity when reporting details like this.”

” Across the day we provided our audience with an update on developments relating to the project.
Our early reporting summarised the plans as either being “ditched” or “dropped”. Although the initial plans for the sub-station and pylons to go through the heart of Sunset Song land had indeed been dropped, it was felt that given the plans still included the Mearns that our language could have been clearer.
Accordingly, our subsequent reporting, made refence to the plans having been “changed” or “re-routed”, as this was a clearer summary for our audiences. We apologise that our earlier language was inaccurate.”

” While introducing an item about the SNP conference starting in Aberdeen we said that “there is an ongoing court case looking at the party’s finances.” To be clear there is no court case currently happening around this – instead there is an ongoing police investigation into the SNP’s finances and at present nobody has been charged under that inquiry.”

” The programme featured a graphic displaying the worsening position of alcohol-related deaths in Scotland. The figures for each year were all clearly and accurately displayed. We do, however, agree that the graph should not have been shown with uneven steps on its axis, and have reminded the programme team of the importance of clarity when reporting statistics.”

In reporting that the Scottish Government had decided that a herbicide previously used to control bracken on farms in Scotland will not be authorised for use this season, we stated that this was because the risks “don’t outweigh the benefits”. In fact, the decision was made because the risks do outweigh the benefits. We apologise for the error.

In a Good Morning Scotland interview, and in a tweet trailing the interview, we said that the First Minister was u-turning on a manifesto commitment to provide free school meals to all of Scotland’s schoolchildren. We should have made clear that this commitment was in relation to all of Scotland’s primary school children only, not those at secondary schools, where the SNP’s manifesto had pledged only to run a pilot scheme for free breakfasts.
We apologise for the error.”

” During this edition of the programme the impression was given that Margaret Ferrier MP is an SNP Member of Parliament. In fact, having had the whip withdrawn in 2020, she now sits as an independent MP. We apologise for the mistake.”

I really don’t get why some people defend this or just go oh anything to fuel the Nats conspiracies.
Whether you’re a Scottish nationalist or unionist or neither BBC Scotland doing this bad isn’t good enough and warrants criticism
The irony of this coming from The National I.e. Breitbart in tartan.
Sign of a good broadcaster.
The National just makes stuff up that panders to its base and then doesn’t post corrections.
Have you ever noticed that Scottish Nationalists and English Tories both hate the BBC and make the same criticisms of bias against it?
BBC has become nothing more than a right wing propaganda train. You can’t tell me this is more “mistakes” then the BBC reporting of the uk government. The BBC blatantly misreports and lies. At least BBC Scotland admit their mistakes.
