I love working infrastructure and when it comes to dykes and polders there is no other country that compares.
here in germany we have been having really heavy rains too. in my aunt’s town one of the dyke’s failed
This shows why we take waterworks very seriously. A fact few known abroad; we cast our vote not only on our Parliament, but also on our water-commitee.
I grew up in the Cambridgeshire fens and this image is all sorts of familiar.
That’s why you have “slapers” and “wakers” and why you shouldn’t build houses in the “uiterwaarden”.
Was driving across the bridge at Zaltbommel and just saw a plain of water to my left and right. The Waal is huge right now with water all the way up to the winter dikes.

Neat it all seems to work!
Are the first row of houses cheaper or at least the area due to the potential threat
A bit of context: [Tiel](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Tiel/@51.8406663,5.1061108,9.79z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x47c6f80668bc460f:0xac17910e3be38e60!8m2!3d51.8876176!4d5.4278765!16zL20vMHZrZjg?entry=ttu) is a small city situated on the Waal river, about 100km inland from the North Sea coast. What you see in the image is not high tide but high river water levels due to generous rainfall both locally and further upstream.
