Giant number ‘2024’ arrives in Times Square ahead of New Year celebrations

The iconic Times Square New Year’s Eve “2024” numbers arrived in New York on Wednesday (December 20).

They traveled cross-country from Los Angeles, California in a 2024 Kia EV9 SUV, an all-electric vehicle.

The numerals are seven feet tall (about 2.13 meters) and use a total of 588 energy-efficient LED bulbs.

The first three numerals (“2-0-2”) will act as “understudies,” said Tom Harris, president of Times Square Alliance.

The numerals will stay on the Broadway Plaza at Times Square until Friday (December 22) and the numeral “4” will be placed at the top of the One Times Square building, under the Times Square Ball on a later date, completing the “2-0-2-4” display.

The number “2024” will light up at midnight on December 31.
