Any idea what these fake shops on Cobb Street off Petticoat Lane are for? Assuming filming for something but curious what for.

  1. Read the one on the right as “fany goods”. The misspelling annoyed me, but what annoyed me even more was the C that had come loose.

  2. Google ‘what’s being filmed in London now’ gives info

  3. Might be because it’s some sort of conservation area. I used to know another set of fake shops somewhere near St George circus near E&C.

  4. You often get fake shop fronts when they once were shops but they’ve been turned into houses. Stops the area looking so dead.

  5. They’ve been like that for some years, so unlikely to be anything film related.

I’ve also seen people go into the front door and it looks like a regular flat entrance.

My guess is they used to be shop fronts, so there was some odd planning condition about maintaining that look while developing the site into flats.

  6. Have a look on Google earth. Sometimes the building facade is just there to hide an underground entrance or ventilation shaft.

  7. they’ve always been there, think they got repainted a few years ago- definitely flats with old shop facades !!

  8. The lobster monger is where I shop for your mum when she’s good

  9. Maybe it’s a secret pornhub location or something? Peak through the window maybe? Or ring the doorbell if there is one?

  10. It could be from filming, the landowner was paid to return them to previous, just kept the money & left them like this!
