Friend of mine thinks it’s bizarre that I boy my dogs presents and give them a Christmas dinner. Can’t see why I’d bother when they “don’t understand”. I don’t believe he’s correct, I think they pick up on the excitement etc.

Do you bother involving your pets?

  1. My dad makes his Jack Russel wear a dog jumper that says “Yappy Christmas” and my stepmum calls him Christmas Dog for the day.

  2. You better believe it, My dog knows this is his special time of the year with his treats & new toys & new Dog bed.Has soon has the tree goes up he goes into festive mood with him knowing he can get away with his antics.

  3. I buy presents and then I put my cat’s name on the label so that people know it’s from him.

  4. My pets don’t understand Christmas… but they understand that wrapping paper is fun! My dog used to love opening presents for us, and ripping the paper to shreds (usually involving a desperate lunge by the family to save the present itself each time), while our cat loves stretching out on the crinkly paper and making it into a bed.

  5. The dog always gets Christmas presents and so does the cat. The dog gets excited about it all and loves opening presents but the cat doesn’t care at all!

  6. There’s entire aisles fdog Christmas. I don’t think you’re alone. My mum’s from France and she noticed it, so it’s not common everywhere, but here, you’re good.

  7. Apart from extra cuddles, treats and spending time, no.

  8. Of course! We do a family photo on Christmas Eve, with my fiancé and I, the two dogs and our cat. The dogs will usually be dressed up for the occasion, this year they were Christmas puddings, and then they get lots of presents from us and our families. My friend and I each send each other a big box of gifts just for our dogs. It’s definitely a little over the top but we’re having fun. They’re part of the family, of course they’re part of Christmas!

  9. I buy my friends dogs Christmas presents. It doesn’t matter if they don’t understand, they’re family so they get to take part in the day.

Most people will treat their pets to new tots at random times anyway, so what difference does it making holding on to those new toys and wrapping them up for 25th December?

  10. My cats have stockings, which they definitely recognise as theirs – they mooch about them as soon as they’re up and will run and investigate them every time a guest leaves (despite only 2 friends ever adding to them, they still need to check).

They have even managed to unwrap their presents this year (ok, just loosely wrapped in tissue paper) and seem to worship the christmas tree as a god!

I dress them up each christmas eve which they’re v patient with, can’t give them a christmas dinner as they’re far too fussy 🙁

They give gifts too (if I spot anything I’d like myself, or to wind up my stepdad! 🤣)

  11. Our 4 don’t give a shit until the cheese comes out and the guests leftovers are handed out to them in evening dinner.

  12. Always. My pup has a few festive clothes (Halloween as well.) And she got two new tug toys and long-lasting chew (though ripping the paper/boxwas the most fun part.)

  13. Our two cats were very intrigued by us opening our presents and got to play with their new toys.

Got some soft toy fish that flip n flop and our girl cat will carry it round in her mouth now lol. Both still love a good old cardboard box though.

Also got a done with holes in and a bit of fluff on a stick will poke out randomly in the holes.
