  1. Let me guess; his work is too great to hold him accountable for the sick and disgusting stuff hes done to everyone over they decades he was allowed/enabled?

  2. >The signatories said they did not want to pass comment on the accusations against Depardieu but could not remain silent in the face of the backlash against the actor in recent week

I don’t see the point in defending the guy in such a half assed way. If you’re going to criticize public outrage, surely just go full pelt and say he didn’t rape anybody?

  3. Letter written by a friend of his daughter, equating the actor with art. Gérard Depardieu ≠ Art of Cinema.

    > “When one goes after Gérard Depardieu in this way, it’s art that is under attack.”

    Nope.

  4. Adèle Haenel, a fantastic french actress retired at 34 due to the French film industry indifference to me too. With crap like this it’s hard to argue against her point.

  5. Defending him in the wake of sexual assault and rape accusations is a very risky decision. Depardieu has a history with some misogynistic and vulgar behaviour.

  6. Are these vaguely humanoids all Star Trek characters?

  7. Kids, don’t spend your entire life drinking to excess or you may turn out looking like him.

  8. They aren’t arguing he didn’t rape anybody, they’re saying they don’t care if he did or not, because he’s such a great *artist*.

Wonder how that works, do you get one free rape per movie you act in? Does that apply to every art medium? Why does this apply to artists and not, say, surgeons, chefs or scientists? Ya got me.

  9. Art may be art, but shitty people are shitty people.

  10. Whenever rich entitled people use “lynching” it turns my stomach. Do they even know what actually happened to people at a lynching?

  11. Why do all four pictures look like Dark Crystal muppets?

  12. Why do they all look like exhibits in a wax museum that’s on the surface of the sun

  13. The second person from the right has a detached upper head from the jaw. Like terence and philip in southpark.
Oh wait… they were also french speakers

  14. I still think of him as the man who drank himself to the point of pissing his pants on an airplane

  15. That 3rd person needs to wake away from her plastic surgery.

  16. Shame on these women who defend him against other women/victims.

  17. Who’s the Second Lady from the right. Plastic surgery is turning her into a cat

  18. Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting behavior. Don’t cast any of them ever again.

  19. The French gave Polanski their equivalent to an Oscar in 2020, they don’t care at all lol

  20. Its a club and if you are not part of it, you dont matter.

The French dealt with people like that before a certain way.

  21. The same country protects the child rapist Polanski. Bunch of degenerates.

  22. You mean that the guy who bragged about “raping too many women to count” when he was younger is a piece of shit rapist? Someone fetch my smelling salts.

  23. Yes. He was “lynched.” Snatched from his home in the dead of night and hung from a tree by torch light while people cheered, vemin dripping from their hateful lips.

  24. So metaphorically lynched? That’s a slap in the face to the people who were literally lynched for no reason except the color of their skin

  25. >“When one goes after Gérard Depardieu in this way, it’s art that is under attack.”

Oh get the fuck out with that bullshit

  26. > “One of the last sacred icons of cinema. We cannot remain silent in the face of the backlash against him, the torrent of hatred which is poured on him without nuance”

Multiple allegations of rape, sexual assault, etc. it’s not “backlash… hate” he’s a rapist.

You can love the art without endorsing the artist people.

  27. If he was just a very general asshole on set (nothing terrible, just hard to work with) but turned out amazing work, that’s one thing.

Turning out great art but being a rapist…yeah that’s not okay.

  28. The only film I remember seeing him in is “My Father the Hero” so it’s very odd to me that people would care so much about his “art”
