Hi all!
My husband and I moved into our house back in 2020 and it previously belonged to an older woman which was evident in its decor (carpet and wallpaper in the bathroom 🤢)
Anyway I’ve decided I want to bite the bullet and pay to get my home office re-decorated as I can’t stare at this grim wallpaper anymore!
However, this wallpaper is ridiculously thick and textured (and if its anything like the other rooms we’ve re-decorated it will have multiple layers of equally gross wallpaper underneath it).
What would be the best way to remove it, or could we just get someone to plaster over it? My decorating knowledge is essentially non-existent so any advice would be much appreciated!

One of those scrapers that has a blade on the end.
Steam him a bit, and he is going to start stripping like he needs the money.
That is nice thick paper, eh? that will come off like the most satisfying sunburn peel.
Steamer and a scrapper
Looks like super fresco wallpaper. Steamer and a scraper is your best bet but if you don’t have access to a steamer, score it and brush water on it until it’s easier to scrape off
When I bought my house, one of the rooms had this dreadful, textured wallpaper too. I was adviced to buy a tool which you run over the wallpaper and that puts little holes in it. You can then use a steamer or get a solution which you brush on the wallpaper. It goes through the holes and makes it a lot easier to remove.
You need to steamer and a scraper. Steamers make such light work of it.
Try painting it. It looks like that style that’s made to be a texture that’s paintable. I’m not for sure. Color change can go a long way.
Is it plasterboard or plastered walls? If plaster, buy a thing called a paper tiger, Zinsser make one which I think you can get in Screwfix or places like that. Use it to score all over the shop. Then get a bucket of hot soapy water (dash of fairy, etc) and sponge it all over. Go round the room and let it all soak in. Try to strip some and see how it feels. If it hasn’t started peeling away fairly easily, score and sponge it all again. You might have to do this a few times for it to start working. I (decorator) don’t use a steamer because it can knacker what’s underneath and blow the plaster. If it’s plasterboard, you need to be super careful.

It will scratch holes in the paper, then put a steamer on it. Will help the steam to get in and it should just come off in massive satisfying strips like bad sunburn 😆
I dont have a steamer either so I scored it and sprayed with water anytime I was going past. Patience is key it wants a good 12 hours worth of soaking before you attempt the scrape. Just wasting your time before that.
If you want a practise first come do my lounge, I haven’t had the motivation to tackle it yet, it’s only 20′ by 12′ oh and the weird cunts papered the fucking ceiling too. You might imagine to cover something up but this hasn’t been the case elsewhere in the house .
My nan used to have this in her bathroom. Me and my cousins would always get into trouble for picking it. It’s irresistible
