  11. Providing weapons is one thing, as well as humanitarian aid. But paying pensions? It’s probably a bit more nuanced but that sounds like a step too far.

  12. We should not be paying their salaries and pensions, that is ridiculous. It’s one thing to send weapons and humanitarian aid, but any spare change we have to fund their fucking pensions should be going into our social security program.

  20. Whether we in the West like it or not, Russia is at war with us. We don’t gain anything by delaying the support. We’ll be paying it sooner or later anyway, and we can reduce the overall cost by paying it as early as possible.

  25. While I do sympathize with Ukraine, their constant whining and sense of entitlement is making it look like they’re not exactly the ideal partner. Their country is at war. Most nations would freeze salaries and pensions during a war for survival as everything goes towards supporting the military effort. I mean if you’re willing to force young men to pick up a gun and die for the country against their will, you can ask government officials to take a 50% paycut for 6 months until finances are sorted out, and a few old people who are spared from fighting and dying or being maimed on the front lines can get pension payments a bit late. It’s not ideal but it’s nowhere as bad as what conscripted Ukranian troops are going through right now.

    The US’ internal politics mat not be ideal for Ukraine’s situation, but people with a begging bowl shouldn’t be publicly shaming their biggest benefactors like Ukraine has been doing. I’m not even American but I don’t see how it’s fair to Americans to have their country constantly blamed despite them paying for Ukraine’s war with their tax dollars.

  29. Man I fully support Ukraine and I’m all about giving them weapons and support but this may be a little much. North America is struggling right now. Record high levels of homelessness and a lack of housing all while food and gas are increasing while wages are stagnant. Giving away billions of dollars to pay someone else pensions is a tough pill to swallow when you and your family are sitting there homeless with no healthcare or support from the government.
