  1. Thanks for fucking the country over for the coming decades with needless austerity.

Good riddance, shame it took so long.

  2. Lots of praise for him on Facebook. Apparently people forgot that he had to resign from parliament due to corruption charges after he accepted 100k DM illegally from some arms dealer.

  3. Looks like today is a national celebration day in Greece.

  4. The devil himself is not ready for Schäible’s austerity

  5. What a horrible human being. First Kissinger and now Schäuble, the assholes, fucktards and math teachers section in hell is getting crowded.

  6. Good riddance

Now go teach angels how to ruin other countries’ economies in order to save your face and ideology

  7. How come do fuckers like him and Kissinger get to be so old

  8. Lots of people celebrate it, as if Thatcher died again, just saying

  9. Good economist but terrible politician, he won’t be remembered well by history

  10. Has been a MoP since 1972. Certainly a titan of German politics leaving the stage, having influenced German and European politics for almost half a century.

Seeing how Schäuble was probably the most prominent member of the CDU’s conservative wing and supporter of current party leader Friedrich Merz, we will see how his departure will affect the balance of power within Germany’s main opposition party.

  11. A terrible man who did more bad than good in this world. He will not be missed.

  12. Wow /r/europe being horrible as always.

I was never a fan of Schäuble‘s politics but celebrating the death of another human being is just wrong. This sub has completely lost its moral compass. It’s disgusting.

  13. Ah, yes, ye olde schadenfreude 🎉

His (and co.) misdeeds have brought ruin to the EU and inflicted wounds that will take decades to heal. A corrupt and merciless politician, one of the worst that Europe could show in contemporary times. May history be merciless with him and his accomplices

  14. No Greek is sending any flowers to his grave, for austerity reasons…

  15. Due to austerity reasons, no Greek is about to send any flowers to his grave…

  16. Reddit will tell you that he is the worst person because german reddit is very left leaning and green. Schäuble committed his entire life to politics, he had various functions and always executed them diligently. Reading interviews with him was a blast. He was one of those no-nonsense guys who assumed that you are intelligent enough to understand him.

I am not a supporter of his party but I truly believe he is one of the greatest german politicians since WW2.

  17. He was an interesting politician. Divisive, capable, extremely intelligent, strongly risk averse, hard negotiator and very fiscally conservative.

Even though his own fiscal policy beliefs eventually clashed with the needs of the union, he acted responsibly in the early 2010s debt crisis and helped prevent contagion and breakdown of the Eurozone during the most critical times, even if not always in the most likeable or painless way. He embodied the harder fiscal responsibility perspective and was (not always unfairly) vilified for this but also blamed for a lot of things that were not his fault nor under his control.
