NPHET to discuss mandatory vaccination following Department of Health legal paper

  1. Don’t see it happening for the general population.

By the time it got through the Dail we wouldn’t be in a situation that might warrant it passing. Can see plenty of government TD’s being against it.

  2. >THE NATIONAL PUBLIC Health Emergency Team (NPHET) is to discuss the possibility of introducing mandatory vaccination.

“What do you think about this lads?”

“Our uptake is so high that it’s not necessary and would only damage public trust in us and the government.”

“Grand so. Let’s have an early lunch “

  3. I really hope they don’t try bring this in.

I was listening to Paul Reed talk about it.

    It’s so wrong.

  4. Half of all the hospitalizations come from the 5% of unvaccinated. Maybe our hospitals should just stop admitting the unvaccinated. Send them to a tent in the phoenix park.

  5. But would the boosters be mandatory as well then? And how many and how often? I think you’d want to be very short-sighted to support this unless you are happy to get boosters whenever dictated indefinitely

  6. Mandatory vaccination is teetering on a cliff edge called authoritarianism and thinking you like what you see.

  7. It’ll be interesting to see what hospitals workers think. I’ve family in Derry , it’s a bit chaotic most of the time for doctors and nurses there , they’d be 100% behind this as you all know, majority of their cases are unvaccinated. I suggested this could be a slippery slope to them, where unintended consequences are an alienation of a population and contending with the enforcement.

I don’t have a strong opinion myself, the vaccine is fairly harmless, although that 3rd booster knocked me for ten! Is it such a dystopian world getting a yearly vaccine for the next few years. I might be more onboard if this vaccine was 100% protection, where you didn’t need a mask afterwards and secondly, the chance of death from this is microscopic.

  8. It might come in for healthcare workers (who already have mandatory vaccinations for other diseases), but don’t realistically see it happening for the population as a whole.

  9. OK so don’t do mandatory vaccinations instead make it mandatory to enter a business, workplace, get health insurance. if ur unvaccinated outside of a genuine medical reason ur a piece of shit.

  10. I can’t morally agree with legally mandating a vaccine to adults.

And state shouldn’t be forcing medical procedures

  11. Mandatory vaccination in Ireland with 94% vaxxed, i am lucky to quit this country forever in 3 weeks 😅

  12. Both shots in summer, boosted 20 days ago, but I see no reason for a country of >90% vax rate to make it mandatory. If they do, first the 80% herd immunity goes out of the window, and second, they eventually say that the <10% of unvaccinated people are responsible for the situation? This needs a lot of scientific proof to get passed.

People are fed up, as we do whatever they say for 2 years, and it is not getting lot better. Global leadership has acted very wrong with this and instead of fixing the situation it just gets prolonged.

  13. This is more kite flying from the government and another example of why we badly need an election. Leading by leaking what you are considering doing to the media and waiting for public response is not leading.

  14. I don’t know how some people can be like “my body, my choice” one minute then pro vaccine mandate the next. Its takes fierce mental gymnastics. I’m vaxxed up to the eyes myself but I’m still absolutely against the idea of legally enforcing it. The government has no right to be breathing down peoples necks like that.

  15. Making a vaccine mandatory to a virus that no longer exists..the virus keeps evolving and never updating the vaccine to match the new strain. Idiots 🤣

  16. People on this thread comparing it to the vax for polio and MMR are being completely disingenuous.

    1. MMR and polio vaccines do not require boosters every 3 months.

    2. MMR and polio vaccines are not under Emergency use authorisation (EUA)

    3. MMR and polio vaccines stop you getting MMR and polio.

Anyone supporting this is an authoritarian. History will judge as it always does.

  17. Very illogical to even think about it.

    – We are at 94% adult population vaccinated and it obviously slowly rises. This is more than enough by any metric, herd immunity or not. Bear in mind, 100% is practically impossible. So striving to get 100% is pointless, it will never happen.

    – So, from the first point, the benefit of extra near 6% would be so tiny, it would make no significant difference.

    – Omicron is less deadly than Delta, making second point even more true

    – Our total Covid ICU patient actual number is very tiny (percentage doesn’t matter)

    – People who are stubborn to get vaccine will be even less likely to get one if its mandatory

    – Vaccines work and save lives, but they are being pushed too aggressively – that will not work long term

  18. Whether or not the politicians are for or against it is irrelevant. Ursula Von Der Leyne is pushing for this for the whole of europe, if the MEP’s vote in favour of mandatory vaccination for europe then member states will have no choice but to implement the measure or face heavy sanctions. Such a move is no longer in the hands of our own government,it is in the hands of the Europen parliament and when, not if they decide to mandate vaccines then we will have very litte choice but to follow suit.

  19. If that would pass will the state take the legal and financial responsibility for adverse effects? Nope? Then they can shove it up their asses.

  20. I am Vaxed but I’m starkly against mandatory Vax. Let people have a choice. Darwinism will do the rest.

Also Omicron will infect almost all of us by the time this mandatory Vax has even potential to take effect so it will be pointless imo

Mandatory Vax will achieve nothing and will only push more people away from vaccination

  21. Fully vaccinated and getting my booster next week, I will 100% be on the front line of any protest against this if it’s brought in. It’s absolutely terrifying just how willing a large swathe of the population have become to accept authoritarianism from those in government.

Some things are crossing a line, **regardless of the pros or cons**. It’s like warrantless surveillance, police brutality, press censorship, etc – there are some things which are absolute non negotiables in a free society, regardless of the consequences. This is one of them.

  22. Mandatory vaccination to me would say we are unquestionably in a dystopian world of the kind I saw in movies growing up.

Let’s not validate the conspiracy theorists.

  23. Mandatory vaccination to me would say we are unquestionably in a dystopian world of the kind I saw in movies growing up.

Let’s not validate the conspiracy theorists.

  24. Mandatory vaccination kind of opens Pandora’s box regarding medical and bodily autonomy, like… Where do you draw the line. I should say that I’m am fully vaccinated and recently got my booster by my own choice, but I absolutely do not believe that vaccines, as important as they are should be mandatory outside of those doing frontline medical and healthcare work

  25. The dumb cunts in governments everywhere are creating anti vaxxers and radicals out of people who would never have been anti vaxx before. This is gonna impact Normal vaccine uptake down the line. Fucking Idiots. There’s absolutely no need for this overreach.

How the fuck did we go from two weeks to flatten the curve to this unethical, draconian shite?

I’m losing faith in institutions and ‘voices of authority’ day by day. Government. Media. The establishment and even ‘science’ and ‘scientists’.

There has been a series of blunders, absurd overreactions and wildly inaccurate models through out covid. All from ‘smart’ people. Not to mention the elephant in the room- that being the mysterious origin of the virus in the first place, and the ‘lies’ and deflections regarding its genesis from day one. (And no, I’m not inferring it’s a bio weapon, just an accidental leak most likely).

Im no quack. Im an atheist and spent 5 years in Uni studying biology, so I appreciate logic and reason. But what’s being pushed by the ‘experts’ is becoming increasingly unethical, unwarranted and quite frankly unhinged. This, and many other measures have been completely disproportional to actual threat posed by covid.

They’re doing real damage to the whole profession and the public trust in them. It’s gonna adversely affect manny future issues, such as Climate change. I’m future Who’s gonna believe a model or projection from scientists, given nearly every one of their covid models has turned out to be alarmist and often wildly off target.

  26. I’m personally drawing the line after one booster. I don’t want or need anything else. I’m fully vaxxed and I’ve had covid with very slight illness. I think boosters are probably important for over 50 or 60s like the flu jab. I feel alot of people are starting to take this stance.

  27. There is a case for mandatory vaccination where just one course of a vaccine is needed for substantial personal protection, to limit transmission, and to confer herd immunity.

But the present vaccines are not providing that level of protection.

Proposing mandatory vaccination where we are on shot number 3 within about 9 months is committing to the risk of how many more “boosters” within the next 2, 3 or 5 years?

As Covid goes from pandemic to endemic society will be faced with tradeoffs between disruption to normal life versus mortality and reduced access to health services. Where it falls on that continuum is a decision to be made by all of society and after proper debate.

  28. This is an overstep, you have the right to refuse medical care, this should not be allowed to happen, especially not on a vaccine that hasn’t had an extensive study of the long term side affects.

-note I have been vaccinated and am in favour of the vaccine

  29. The ethics would be more complex if less people had the vaccine and the vaccine made a significant difference to transmission, because you could ethically argue that their actions affected many others negatively. Neither of which are the case.

From what I see, the only people being majorly affected by this are the antivaxxers themselves
