Woman takes 90-minute bus journey to work as local services slashed
It’s 5:30 a.m. and Heather is getting ready for work so why are you up this early uh because I’ve got to get the bus at this time now so that I can work earlier hours because I can’t get back home of an evening and um stopped
Running my evening buses it’s not fun as it I mean it feels like it’s the middle of the night local authorities have long subsidized private companies in an effort to keep unprofitable local bus routes like this one running but budget cuts have taken their toll they said
They would no longer going to run a service evenings and weekends toor morning I believe the mayor’s office have paid to pour a bus on every 2 hours of an evening and weekend so that we’re not completely cut off when the government scrapped hs2 it promised to plow the money into local transport
Services like these including a billion pounds into buses but critics say more is needed sure 1 billion pounds is great for the north fantastic we want all the money we can get but it’s never going to be enough what we need is improvements today in our bus Network buses are
Crucial to our communities they might not be the most glamorous form of Transport but they are the most effective means of connecting people with places all the money from hs2 cancellation is not available to us now and we are facing a crisis now Heather’s experience isn’t a typical across the
Country people are struggling to get to work school or college on a bus Network that has been decimated over the years according to official figures bus services have been cut by 21% since 2008 in Yorkshire and the Humber that figure Rises to 23% and that means fewer buses and
Longer waights Heather is waiting for her third and final bus into work the last time I went to London um I actually timed it and it took longer from Sheffield to Rome March that it had taken from St panras to Sheffield station it’s taken an hour and 40
Minutes for a journey that is just a 28-minute drive but Heather has finally arrived I’m going to have to do it all again this afternoon going back and it’ll be you know 2 and 1 half hours without reliable transport links many like Heather are left cut off and
Isolated a new transport plan can’t come soon enough but can the government deliver on its promise GPR Nan Sky News in Sheffield
It is 5.30am and 3 degrees outside. Heather is getting ready to leave for her one and a half hour journey into work. It involves three buses and long waits in the dark.
“It’s not fun is it? I mean, it feels like it’s the middle of the night. It’s cold, it’s dark, it’s miserable. I mean, at least it’s not raining today, but yeah, it’s not good.”
From her home in Rawmarsh she travels to Rotherham. Here, she gets another bus to Sheffield, before jumping on the final bus to the city centre. When she arrives at work, an LGBT youth charity, dawn is only just breaking.

She can't get a car ? She can't change her job ?
this is the problem with living outside of the city where u work. if its only like a 20 something minute drive. just buy a escooter or ebike. many should have enough range to get u thru the day. if empty u can pedal/scoot to work. 3 hours a day wasted on waiting/riding the bus? no thanks….there are better solutions. also if it takes 20 something minutes to drive to work. but an hour 30 for the buses. i wonder if she literally could walk to work in that 1 hour and 30 minutes… probably not but still would love to see how fast u can jog to work.
Oh no if only there was a way to learn how to drive your own vehicle
Buy a moped 😆
the locals are complaining and this is why the migrants are taking over
This is one of the reasons I invested in a bike. I used to work a 15-20 minute drive from where I live and on the bus that usually took me 40 minutes plus walking to each bus stop. Coming back could sometimes take longer. A bike took me just as long to complete the journey in the morning, being quicker in the evening. Became the easier solution plus with enough uses it starts to pay for itself
Just quit.
legalise escooters
Brexit Britain, nothing but decay and cuts.
Well done for voting Tory
With all the money that woman spent on tattooing herself she could of bought a car, get your prioritiesi n order.
stop whining… I went to work at 4:50 and some shifts and got home from work at 20:30 evening. 12-14hours work.
A working scouse… type…moan moan…
Lgbt charity so not really working…
This isn't anything new, it's been like this for years, it's just getting worse now due to a number of economic pressures and lack of proper investment into public transport over time. Never been uncommon for me to take 1hr 30mins to commute by bus/train, bus/bus etc. for a 25min car journey.
Nevermind the fact it's all operated on the basis of making as much profit as possible not for the public as it should be.
Yet they want everyone out of a car 😂😂😂
So short sighted, the cost is just moved from transport subsidy to lost tax revenue and higher welfare expenses
Bus services in Sheffield is beyond awful.
Imagine waking up that early To go to work in CEX
Get a push bike
She's so lucky I have to get up at half 3 every day for work 4 buses each way 8 buses a day 😮
Ridiculous how everyone is encouraged to ditch their cars and to use public transport.
When countless governments have underfunded public transport by flouncing it off to the private sector.
No thanks I'll stick to the car!
Stop contracting out.
And she does all that to waste her wages and Universal Credit on Tattoos and Lanyards with the Oppression Flag on.
Her should be using it on dental work and a push bike.
