US approves ‘final’ military aid package to Ukraine | DW News

The US government has approved what could be its final package of military aid to Ukraine the deal is worth up to $250 million now President Joe Biden has made supporting Ukraine against Russia a key priority but republicans in Congress have insisted they won’t authorize any more funding unless Democrats agree to

Stricter measures to limit migration um thank you Mr per the German government for its part has made clear that it hopes the United States will not abandon its backing for Ukraine we welcome the ongoing us support for Ukraine and looking ahead we trust that the US will continue to support Ukraine

As President Biden has announced well let’s get the view from K and speak to our correspondent Sonia fakar joining us live uh Sonia how important is this Aid package uh which may be the last from the US for Ukraine well it is pretty significant it has been welcomed here president zalinski uh

Today uh you know welcomed it and said it would meet uh Ukraine’s most pressing military needs now we’ve already heard of a shortage of M munition affecting Ukraine’s uh Frontline operations with you know uttery Crews uh saying they now need to ration shells there’s also another component in this package which

Is all about air defense Munitions uh which is also very significant just this week we saw Russia launch A Renewed barrage of drone attacks cities like Odessa and hon um uh and and causing you know kind of uh deaths and and and damage to infrastructure and for Ukraine

Of course you know kind of intercepting and shooting down these drones uh before they hit their targets means it goes through these air defense Munitions quite fast but of course there is concern here about wavering um Western Aid Ukrainian officials have said they plan to ramp up domestic production of

Weapons next year that would include long range strike drones which Ukraine has been using to strike far behind Enemy Lines for example to Target Russian warships in the Black Sea give us a sense of what exactly is at stake here if the US does stop sending Aid how

Much of a blow would that be for Ukraine’s ability to defend itself well I think many analysts uh here agree that if um you know Aid was cut by Ukraine’s biggest military backer that is the US it could potentially have a debilitating impact on Ukraine’s ability uh to defend itself and I think

The most most immediate concern of course is the impact on Frontline operations in the East and the South where you know uh both Ukraine and Russia have struggled to achieve any significant breakthrough but where well equipped Russian troops are on the attack in in many places in terms of

Weapons I think analysts think that if there is no additional Aid Ukraine uh could start running out of long range missiles air defense missiles and ammunition uh and that remains a huge concern here DW’s correspondent Sonia fonar for us in ke thank thank you so much for your reporting there

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday thanked “Joe Biden, Congress, and the American people” for the latest $250 million (roughly €225 million) military aid package announced late on Wednesday. The tranche of aid is the last for the year, and as the White House appeals to Congress to approve more funds urgently, warning that failure to do so will lead to available resources running out by the end of the year.

  1. I hope Germany will recover its territory from Poland after Poland, Hungary and Romania recovery their territory from the Ukraine.

  2. Part of Germany belongs to ussr so it is a russian land 😂and half of Berlin belongs to ussr 🎉 prepare you are having less and less time

  3. Germany should do more. Its military expenditure is pitiful, and it’s their ignorant energy dealings with Russia that helped get us into this mess.

  4. This is not Europe's war. This is not even Ukraine's war, even though they foolishly chose to join a side. This is a longterm, ongoing conflict between Russia and USA, no one else. Anyone else that is involved was forced to join by USA using economic and political pressure.

  5. The US objectives already complete. Gave Russia a bit of a bloody nose and got rid of the pipeline and helped break ties between EU and Russia. Whatever happens now is just gravy for Washington. That’s the cold, uncaring reality.

  6. Why aren't you talking about how much aid that Germany should be giving so that we don't have to keep protecting you from your favorite trading partner.

  7. How vital is US military aid to Ukraine?

How vital is Ukraine to the US? Not in the least. Maybe it's vital to Europe. So let Europe prop it up.

  8. However, important, it may be, it’s not more important than who’s signing up in Ukraine. They’ve got conscription, and that’s one thing they shouldn’t need in this allegedly existential situation. It’s up to them though. Who are we to tell them that Ukraine is worth fighting for? I don’t think we have any such place to say.

  9. USA will provide aid also in the future. But Europe must prepare that USA aid may diminish. We have to reinforce our own military production.

  10. Cold, hard, uncaring truth is that the US already has it subjective. Did some harm to Russia, got rid of the pipeline, and helped separate EU and Russia. Whatever else happens now is gravy for Washington. Ukraine could fold next week and it’s OK.

  11. i doubt that this will actually be the last aid package from the US. But if it is, then we could actually be witnessing the beginning of the end of the US as a world power.

  12. if we do not support ukraine ,then ruzzia will set it's eyes on europe proper, this is the ultimate proxy war , soon the world may engulfed in conflict , I hope not

  13. EU and US is so weak that even North Korea is producing more artillery shells than US and EU combined. What a joke, that unfortunately will get many people killed and more countries invaded.

  14. NOT OK! I don’t mind if they spend taxpayers money when we don’t even agree with what they’re doing. Totally wrong. We’ve got evil leaders. That’s what we are stuck with until we get rid of Biden.

  15. The recent loss of major Russian maritime assets is hurting the Kremlin and Putin in particular. The future loss of their newly commissioned aircraft carrier AK, will undoubtedly convince Russia enough is enough.
