Tbh, I’m not sure I agree with some of the recommendations.
For the big towns, it’s a good idea to merge municipalities and have them more self-governing. I think letting local authorities be responsible for taxation is a bad idea given how small Cyprus is, and will have some pretty bad side effects.
My biggest concern is for the smaller communities being given more responsibilities and powers. I just don’t think they have the capability or skills to do it. It needs to be more centralised with oversight from people who actually know what they’re doing, not some horkato moukhtari with a primary school education. I’ve seen so much money being wasted and mis-spent because they have no idea what they’re doing.
