On official maps, the Red Line of Lisbon Metro is depicted as pink (or at least to me it is clearly pink not red). Is there any particular reason for this, like the word “vermelha” also includes pink or something?

It’s possible that’s just the colour palette their web designer thought looked nice on screen. I agree it does look more pink than red.
That said, all the red line signs look red rather than pink to me.
Red is considered a harsh color in symbology, something that indicates danger, forbidden, etc.
I believe this is why they made the “red line” hue a bit to the pink side. But it is definitely pink. It’s just easier to say/name it “red”.
Probably the same reason why the *green* is teal and the *blue* is something in between blue and cyan.
Looks.
It’s not red. It’s incarnate, my friend.
Maybe it’s an issue on accessibility for the colorblind people .
Pink is just light red.
The colour of the line is actually magenta (blue added to red light).
