What the previous president set in motion cannot be stopped now. It was proved that the USA may be reticent to help its EU partners depending on what party is in power.
EU cannot depend on the results of a USA election for its security.
Said that, I hope that having armies becomes less important in the future as the world is extremely interconnected and wars are not politically acceptable nor economically profitable for most countries.
