‘Thousands’ stranded as flooded tunnel cancels Eurostar and Southeastern trains
The UK is bracing for more bad weather today with yellow weather warnings issued across the country it comes days after storm Garrett brought Heavy Rain well in Kent flooding has been so severe that water has submerged part of the Railway track leading to A reduced service in and out of London’s St panras
International well travel expert Simon CER is at St panras in central London for us this morning and Sky meteorologist Joe Wheeler is in Lincolnshire and Joe we’ll come to you in just a moment moment but first Simon to you first so what’s happened I’m afraid there are tens of
Thousands of passengers turning up here at London St panas International who are finding out they are going nowhere let me explain what’s happened there is the UK’s only highspeed line runs from here to efleet in Kent and then further on to Ashford in order to get across the temps
It has to dive beneath a t Tel and that got flooded yesterday afternoon they’ve been working on it some Services were delayed last night but at four o’l this morning they took the decision they could run no trains through that at all as a result we have seen at least 20
Eurostar trains cancel to and from Paris Amsterdam and Brussels that means that unfortunately it’s around about 16,000 people who’ve just been told sorry you’re not going anywhere and furthermore you are not going to be able to get on a train in standard class for the rest of the day many many desperate
People here paying hundreds of pounds some of them for flights others are planning to get the bus and uh a families who are heading for Disney well one of those told me that they were heading home to get the car and going to try to drive and get either a Euro
Tunnel or a ferry across the channel taking kids to Disneylands and unfortunately we just got told it got canceled at the last minute and now we’re going to try to drive to the shuttle and see if that works oh well Simon it sounds like a lot of frustrated people uh there today
Let’s find out what the broader picture is and uh Joe uh yellow weather warnings in place give us all the details well as we just heard uh the there is flooding in the tunnels in London at the moment and of course we had travel disruption from Storm Garrett
The other day the current storm the one that’s incoming is arriving in very similar circumstances a lot of cold air over Scotland milder further south another area of low pressure which when the rain meets up with the cold air turns to snow over the higher ground we’ve already seen snow overnight with
Parts of Ireland now into Southwestern parts of Scotland Northwestern parts of England so I mean any snow obviously is going to cause a bit of a a problem when it comes to traveling but along with that we’ve got the rain as well another two in of rain coming on the heels of
Storm Garrett so where we’ve had flooding the ground is saturated uh and so any further rains fall at all is going to cause some problems and along with that we’ve got the strong wind as well uh those winds gutting at times up to 60 65 miles per hour in the strongest
Areas and of course there’s a lot of people on the roads at the moment traveling to see friends and family who perhaps don’t drive very far very often through the rest of the year uh a huge amount of traffic people unaccustomed to traveling uh not only this time of year
But also in conditions like this uh really very difficult and then tonight we get another area of squirly rain pushing its way across central uh and Southern parts of England with winds which could uh give cause for some tornadoes Joe thanks very much indeed uh for all that information and Simon CER
Thanks so much for joining us there from St panras as well
Eurostar and Southeastern trains have been cancelled this morning because of a flooded tunnel near Ebbsfleet International station in Kent.
Southeastern Railway said no services will run between Ebbsfleet and London St Pancras International until at least 12pm.
Eurostar, which uses the same line, has cancelled some services to and from St Pancras.

GET THE TORIES OUT
Now it's news because it's hit the South East,..
It's just loads of rain. It's been happening for thousands of years.
I've spotted the problem. Apparently they're 'diving' the trains 'under' the tunnels that are under the Thames, not 'driving' then through the those tunnels. Trains have a problem moving through solid ground – that's why they have tunnels. Someone else mentioned about it being a pity Ebbsfleet and Ashford are closed. They're not. Their international platforms may be, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be an enormous problem to reopen them temporarily and bus the border staff down there to operate them. I noticed also that no mention has been made of whether any bus connection to these stations has been set up and the number of people has been estimated from the maximum capacity of the trains that have been cancelled rather than a direct quote from the Train Operator. I'm sure it's all the government's fault #sarcasm
One good thing about this bad weather is there’s less chance of the boats coming over
cost of living crisis, every ones at disney tenerife ski holidays, shops full railway stations chocka
Private companies underinvesting to make more profits for overseas investors….what else does anyone expect?
Good day for the local taxis. Some "long jobs" going out there for sure.
Happy New year everyone 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Easy, just walk home.

Did he go to university to do a degree on travel😅😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂
That’s what they get for trying to go abroad instead of having new year in England…
Where and when were those cars filmed in the snow?
The film of the gallons of water running when they were talking about rain😂😂😂. Makes me think that sky is pudhing climate change 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lucky a Train wasn’t in the Tunnel when this happened. Be a very different story
Easy, stay at home feet up in front of the fire with a can of beer.
oh dear.
is it that rain that’s falling from the wrong direction again ?
get Coffey on the case, she’s an expert !
Government doesn’t stop illegal undocumented economic migrant Men from crossing the channel.
But God does.
It is in the government interest to not invest in critical infrastructure. Because when it eventually and inevitably succumbs to adverse weather, MMCC can be blamed, then all the expensive mitigation programs can be justified such as climate and carbon taxes, ULEZ and all other green tariff net zero non-science. If infrastructure was continually upgraded to withstand occasion heavy wind and rain, then this climate chaos and these weekly weather warnings messages wouldn't get any attention. The entire MMCC agenda is a psyop.
Maybe tunneling under the sea to another country wasn't such a " Smart " concept.
'under the tunnel' guy must still be drunk, he can hardly get a word out, but I still believe all the best people are in all the right jobs… ffs
Tens of Thousands 😂
Looks more like maybe 100 people at the station
Sky 🐂💩 again
If the government get there way millions of British people will be looking small boats to France. These floods rain and storms are only going to get worse due to climate change. This is the main effect it will have in north west Europe. And the UK government will to absolutely nothing to help people worst effected. Life in British city's for working people will soon be unbearable. Poverty is spreading like wild fire and because of that crime will do the same. The police will not be able to stop it and the prisons are all full anyway.
Why call weather a name? It's already called weather. Bad or good. Been around for a long time. Long before man and communism….
Pure theatre but with very bad actors
Does anything work in the Sunny Uplands of Broke Brexit Britain.

Elon has a solution for that 😏
So our super efficient privatised rail and water networks have teamed up to creat mayhem.
Essential infrastructure should nit be in the hands of deregulated reckless privateers. Surely we’ve seen enough of these disastrous cartels by now!
Another win for broken Tory Britain 🎉
Even Very well developed country like UK can’t escape from nature’s punishment.
Who'd have thought it might rain in winter
In Britain
Oh wow direct line straight from 1982 here is Jo Wheeler
The Davos crowd will be jumping for joy! They don't want anyone leaving 15 minute cities! Better still, no exercise! Obe city!

Isnt the track already under water?
If I was there I would be having a huge Billy Blackout! Will the deprived holiday makers get their travel expenses paid for going and returning to the station.
They should have a system where Eurostar passengers are protected on flights and vice versa.
Moral of the story – don't go all the way to Disney Land for new years eve
