Money Diaries: A senior software engineering manager on €233K living in Kerry

  1. Why is his pension contributions so low?!

He’s sorted, on paper sounds like the perfect life – Kerry wouldn’t be my first choice but it obviously is his.

His comment on taxes and investment is spot on.

  2. The only piece hard to believe here is the fact they haven’t bought and piss money away on rent considering they moved from Dublin due to costs. Also kerry house prices are great.

  3. Holy crap! I love reading these diaries for the comments but for the first time, I feel bitterly jealous. 233k in Kerry… must live like a king.

  4. Started on €22k 6 years ago and already raking it in, fair play. Although he needs to top up those pension contributions!

Otherwise that’s an amazing contributions to charities, sounds like a solid chap! I really want to know where his local chipper is, sounds quality.

  5. Can someone explain how the stocks in this work. Is this 53K cash from stocks each year or 53K worth of stocks that he hasn’t cashed in?

  6. I’m asking for a raise in the morning…

Edit: they said we can discuss on January 24th during my annual review

  7. Have to laugh… Everyone saying fair-play …. But when they published the primary teacher on 40k the knives were out.

  8. He doesn’t make enough for a €500 a month mortgage though, he gave somebody a fiver back in march 2014 which shows he is reckless with money.

  9. In my experience you need to be exceptionally talented to get to the level he’s at. Skill wise most software engineers will top out at a senior software engineer level and be happy with that, should still be 100k+ after several years and job moves.

  10. >Approx. €400/month goes to my company pension – they contribute the same as my amount

This seems extremely low. I’m younger than him, on significantly less money and I put in more with company matching.
