New Year travel chaos at St Pancras as flooding cancels high-speed trains
These are the current scenes at London’s St Pancras International.
All Eurostar and Southeastern high-speed trains are currently cancelled due to flooding in the Thames tunnel on Saturday (30 December).
The Independent’s travel journalist Simon Calder said: “It’s absolute carnage here and New Year travel chaos mounts.”
Flooding has occurred in both railway tunnels near Ebbsfleet International, meaning both tunnels are closed.
This means no trains can run between London St Pancras International and Ebbsfleet International.
Disruption is expected until 12 noon.

Use Tampons and Maxi-Pads to Soak it all up. H2O fears these products and cowers in fear when confronted with feminine hygiene products.
Not flooding. Inept engineering skills
Not snow then flooding….
Pantomime
As if the UK had High-Speed trains 🤣🤣🤣
St Pancras is literally always busy like that
All planned
Im there every day that looks light traffic to me
Hopefully once we’ve all paid our green taxes and got electric cars then this weather will get a lot better and we won’t get heavy rain any more.
I hope that after that the government can turn their attention to making the days longer at this time of year cos I’m sick of it going dark before tea time.
Every year this happens, every year. This isn't news
Let’s guess…is those trains are all electric?
"Great" Britian… lol
WTF? It always looks like this?!
Another day in "Great" Britain
Trains, planes, buses and roads – how can everyone on route expect the transport systems to work if everyone insists on using them way beyond capacity at the worst time of year.
While is is unusual to have extreme storms and tornadoes in a country, which has not known such phenomena on a regular basis since we migrated into the British Isles, it is not unusual to have such things as rain, fog, snow, frost, cold and black ice – and all at a time of year which sees shorter daylight hours, people trying to fit that travel in while it's still light, and quite a few having had a bit too much to drink, eat and otherwise indulge.
Transport systems seem to be at their least reliable at this time of year. Indeed, it is almost a Christmas tradition for travelling to be chaotic for one reason or another. It's been like this for at least 40 years that I remember.
So why do it?
Why exhaust yourself with all that tedious travelling when you know that half the family would rather stay at home – the kids to play with their new toys, mum to get a break after all that cooking, dad to rest up after all that washing up.
Next year, stay home and tell the relatives you all have flu. Visit at a more clement time of year. Remember, you don't have to take Jacob Marley at his word. You're not going to be visited by 3 spooks simply because you decide to stay home and avoid the stress of travel plans going askew.
Can they not just depart and arrive from Stratford International instead, then use other rail links to St Pancras? It's hardly rocket science.
Fairly common eurostar queue…
High speed trains?
They don’t exist in the UK
Delightful 🙂
They could run a replacement service with all the dinghies from Dover 😂
Epic neglect
