Flooded rail tunnel causes travel chaos at St Pancras and Ebbsfleet

There was a huge queue all the way up out of the doors uh and after queuing up for a while we noticed that the trains were actually canceled to p uh and then eventually somebody wanded along the line and told us that there was a flood

In the tunnel and we’d have to either refund our tickets or or arrange them for a different date taking the kids to Disneylands and unfortunately we just got told it got canceled at the last minute and now we’re going to try to drive to the shuttle and see if that Works

A flooded tunnel near Ebbsfleet International in Kent has caused several Eurostar and Southeastern trains to be cancelled this morning.

Southeastern Railway said no services will run between Ebbsfleet and London St Pancras International until at least 12pm.

Southeastern trains shared a video showing water pouring out of a pipe, down onto the track.

Eurostar, which also uses the same line, has cancelled some services to and from St Pancras.

  1. Always something 😂and nof svdn snowing otherwise the country woukd stop 😂😂😂 like a 3rd world country u have to laugh the incompetence of this country is breathtaking

  2. Supermarkets have self checkout and passengers who willingly accept using them should be given mops and buckets and told to get on with it.

  3. This leak is a symptom of a much more worrying issue. The entire tunnel should be shut down until the full extent of the damage is known, for a minimum of six months left idle to be safe, so the structural integrity can be evaluated and reinforced or repaired. Under stress a dramatic pressure shift could occur leading the entire tunnel to collapse causing massive loss of life if this is not resolved.
But who is going to pay to evaluate the damage, and repair it? France cannot trust the uk to do it and vice versa given the rhetoric used over the past decade or so between the two former allies. With the changing attitudes on both sides of the tunnel owing to polarisation due to brexit should it even be repaired? Is this an opportunity to see an end to the channel tunnel and the spirit of friendship it represents. The majority of the people using the tunnel are brits and apart from a loss of trade in the local area around the mouth of the tunnel France loses nothing with the decommissioning of the tunnel, whereas the uk loses a vital travel and trade lifeline.

  4. How totally unexpected.
Who would have thought that Tories trying to make themselves rich whilst also cost-cutting would result in dangerous repercussions.

  5. This makes me laugh out loud were spending billions to get to brum 3 mins quicker and the trains are either on strike no staff broke down or flooded its about time all railways were sacked off .. massive waste off money

  6. Construction les than 20 years old and now it's falling apart. Typical British Shoddy 'Tofu Dreg' construction.

Designed by engineers, – built by accountants. Will they ever find the incompetent oaf who doesn't know how to connect or fasten a pipe together?

  7. I have never understood why people put themselves through this every year. Every bank holiday there is chaos. Whether it's the roads, the trains. the airports or the ferry's and now the tunnel. We stay at home warm and cosy, nice and relaxed with lots of food and drink and watch the tv or play boardgames. If we want to go anywhere or see anyone we go at other times. Sometimes we even put our coats on and have a front garden party with the neighbours.

  8. Deffo not Thames Water's fault, the water did not appear to contain sewage & the water on the track had no floaters.

  9. It's amazing that the government wants to continue wasting money building a shortened HS2, when they can't even stop a tunnel on HS1 from flooding!

  10. I need that dad's energy, stood in one of the most stressful stations knows it's a no go and just shrugs off getting to the shuttle.
We could all do with being more like him…except him.
