Vapers to be hit with new tax on e-cigarettes that will see prices rise massively

  1. Gotta make that lost cigarette tax revenue back somehow.

  2. >The Sunday Mirror understands ministers are keen to push ahead with the tax to make it harder for children to get their hands on e-cigarettes.

It has long been known that making it more expensive doesn’t stop kids doing it.

    Blatant cash grab.

  3. Headlines a little overblown, as usual.

“The mirror believes” is doing a lot of lifting throughout

“Prices rise massively” a currently £4 10ml bottle of liquid will increase by £1.40, “the mirror believes”. An average vaper gets through 10ml a week “the mirror believes”.

So the cost of vaping ‘could’ increase to almost £6 a week for most? Compared to £12+ per pack of cigarettes or £37+ per 50g of rolling tobacco.

    Hardly seems worth mentioning IMO.

  4. What’s that? The poors are suddenly not dying of cancer and it isn’t costing them everything they own for the addiction??

Tax them! Tax it! Gouge them!!!

Say it’s to stop ‘problem children’ being naughty or some shit, our boomer base will eat that up. It’ll make us look responsible and maybe they won’t notice all the other vile shit we’ve perpetrated.

  5. Good. Can we dispense with the bollocks that this is an aid to stop smoking – can actually see people repeat this mantra without even thinking – it was pushed by tobacco companies and now sees a new generation hooked on their product.

  6. (If you try to sit, sit) I’ll tax your seat
(If you get too cold, cold) I’ll tax the heat
(If you take a walk, walk) I’ll tax your feet
cause I’m the tax man ( George Harrison)

  7. Good! It’s very uncool so should be taxed to the max. Maximum tax.

  8. And this is why the government hasn’t done anything about disposable vapes… create a problem and use it as a BS justification to F people over.

1p (maybe 2p nowadays) is the price to make a cigarette, the rest is pure profit to the industry and government.

Atleast they aren’t doing what most nations are doing like the US and introducing vaping bans and propaganda to push vapers back onto cigarettes while making sure most vapes have ludicrously high amounts of nicotine to keep people addicted (vapes made by big tobacco owned companies while banning independent vape companies). I expect Labour will do that.

  9. I hear you guys are addicted to something and its causing major health problems, we should probably do something about that. Try and stop it? Lol, course not, our mates run that industry and pay us a lot. Skim a bit of cash for ourselves of course! Maybe use the cash to pay some mates to fund a “study” into its effects, that sounds like a nice earner

  10. As vapes have become more popular over the years, I feel like they’ve been looking for a reason to make money on it somehow – after all, switching to vapes must take money away from earning tax on cigarettes.

We always knew this, but at least it’s now clear. The tax was never a public health thing and always a make money thing.

  11. Hands up who didn’t see this one coming from miles away? Just make all tax income tax and tax everyone on all of it at income tax rates. Get rid of the rest. That’s more fair.

  12. wonder how the 200 vape shops on the local high street will cope

  13. Wait long enough for everyone to get addicted and dependent before raising prices for that guaranteed return. Smart!

  14. Surprised it took them so long. I’m guessing they were waiting for enough people to be hooked to make more tax.

Still waiting for the fat tax .. and whatever else tax or anything enjoyable.

  15. I’ve heard of kids spending £6 a day on disposable vapes. That’s fucking expensive already and it doesn’t stop them! How!?

  16. Just get rid of the fuckin disposables now..

We have had “what to do with disposable vapes” from HQ on site, but no finances to do anything like buy vape bins and pay for disposal… Upper management fuckin idiots

  17. Presupposing the articles are to be taxed, is there *any* reason why cigarettes, ‘e’ or otherwise, should not be done so at the optimum point on their respective Laffer curves?

  18. Cigarettes and Vapes can fuck off and the only people angry about it are the people that use them.

Who cares? One less burden on all of us that pay tax at the end of the day, and frees up the NHS to better deal with our growing population.

    You can’t have everything.

  19. I don’t get why normal vapers are being hammered here? We have coils, mods, tanks and e-liquid.

We’re not going round smoking disposables that are shaped like.milkshake cups and throwing them in the bin.

Typical tory roughshod behaviour. Completely misses the point whilst attacking those of us who are genuinely brining down our nicotine intake.

Its the disposables that need outright banning. Not taxing. Ban them. Leave the rest of us alone.

  20. In other words they saw dollars and want a bigger cut

  21. Can we please just ban disposable vapes for fuck sake. There’s no reason for these products to exist *at all* except *maybe* with a prescription or something. If you want to vape, get a reusable one and stop filling landfills, streets and oceans with polluting single use plastics and batteries. It would probably also deter young people using them far better than any price rise or fiddling with the fucking packaging.

  22. What does this conservative government even conserve? I thought conservatives were supposed to be about lower taxes and less government involvement in people’s lives

  23. Of course they found a way to profit from people trying to quit smoking by using vaping.
    Cash grabbing leeches
