  1. Blah blah he’s not Clever.
    Made the shit joke first.

  2. It just gets better and better. And people wonder why they feel their not taking the issue seriously enough.

  3. He’s learnt from experience that the rules don’t apply to Conservative ministers… you don’t get punished, the only consequence is getting promoted

  4. And as is the Tory way, there are never any consequences! It’s painfully obvious they have given up leading, knowing they will be decimated at the next election.

  5. Honest to God, it’s like there’s something in the water here and over at ukpol. It was a joke people, relax.

Spiking jokes are jokes. Holocaust jokes are jokes. 9/11 jokes are jokes. You really are a miserable bunch, aren’t you.

  6. Can we not just start referring to him as Date-Rape Cleverly?

    Tar him with the joke.

  7. This is worse than him stealing the voice of poor Nick Knowles.

  8. I’ll be the first person to argue for freedom of speech especially in comedy. However making this joke as a politician is a dumb move.

  9. Watch these cunts win the election again.. it wouldn’t surprise me one bit.. God help us.

  10. Do wonder how these sort of chuckle-fucks operate without the Tory versions of Malcolm F Tucker (would be ‘the fucker’, obviously – brilliantly portrayed by Tom Hollander) just snuffing their content out at birth before it made it onto a napkin as an idea.

  11. i commented the other day that it was actually a pretty funny joke (the actual joke, not the joke that redditors like to pretend they think he said) and got some upvotes, but i suspect they may have misconstrued my comment.

  12. It is ironic the tories have started a campaign to stop this. And then Cleverly does it. What a bunch of scum. You can stop your mates from sexually harassing women, unless they are tories and then they can harrass who they want.

  13. I don’t understand what the Mirror are trying to achieve with trying to keep this story alive.

He made a joke which showed a lack of awareness and was clearly an error of judgement. He was made aware of this and publicly apologised.

He was never going to resign or be sacked over this so an apology is probably the biggest win that could have happened in the circumstances.

Hopefully he’s learned his lesson and let’s move on.

  14. Here’s a little thought experiment for everyone:-

Imagine if Keir Starmer made a joke about Jimmy Savile having a fondness for jewellery and [insert punchline] rings in particular.

Would Express and Mail “readers” be outraged at the FOUL joke made by the man who LET SAVILE GO, or would they be brushing it off as just a bit of fun?

  15. They really are a bunch of badly behaved teenagers aren’t they?

  16. If the 2020s have proven anything, it’s that the news cycle of almost half a decade can be nutshelled in:

“Tory, please don’t do this stupid thing.”
“Okay, I promise not to do the stupid thing.”

    *Tory does stupid thing*

OPTIONAL BONUS ROUND: *Tory not only has no ramifications for doing stupid thing but becomes wildly financially successful for their entire life*

Remember to be good citizens and toe the line and obey the rules though everyone, ok?

  17. I mean Truss fucked up in real terms and still somehow has a career, voters and TV time.

Cleverly is just repeating the conservative tradition of failing upwards.

Until we hold our politicians accountable, this will only get worse.

  18. I doubt he will go over this. But he is serially thick and arrogant, so there will be an escalating series of screw ups that will eventually get him sacked after he’s damaged the government (even from its current low bar) far more than he needed to because the Conservatives are incapable of learning anything from all the previous ministerial sackings.

  19. Stupid joke to make. Amazing how delicate the folks of Reddit are though.

  20. Compared to normal Tory scandals… of course, it’s still pretty bad.

  21. I know the bar is extremely low, but he’s the thickest Tory MP there is. No surprise he’s also dodgy where causing deep offence is concerned.
