I can tell you our construction workers were much more accommodating with respectful customers that offered them something to drink and such compared to that asshole that sits in his yard during the summer heat, watches them all day and doesn’t offer jack shit. A year later talking about that guy would still have our construction worker roll his eyes at the dude.
That’s going to have a much bigger effect on their behavior than a small bit of extra base pay. That’s just being human.
This is from the perspective of having somebody help YOU as a customer a bit more.
Obviously give your cleaning lady 50 euros or so for christmas as well. I’m talking more general.

Motivatiepsychologen, dat zijn toch die “experts” die zeggen dat werknemers liever een extra teambuilding event met pizza hebben dan een hoger loon.

Ik werk voor geld.
It’s true, people respond to status more than monetary values but that doesn’t mean the current situation is a moral one and these people are not vastly underpaid and precarized 🙂
We should respect all forms of care work a lot more, as a society and individuals, but that starts with a nice monetary recompensation. Not because of direct incentives to the working individuals, but because of the institutional effects for society
