That’s terrible!
They should do it [by manipulating the statistics](https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2014/8/21/exposing-the-great-poverty-reduction-lie) like us God fearin’ ‘Mericans do!
If you’re at all concerned about global warming the goal should be to live on as little as possible.
Are the forced unpaid laborers part of this percentage? Or is this 70% of the non-slaves?
I think there is a ton of nuance to take into account here.
I worked in lots of places in China over the past decade, 2000 pm is considered by literally EVERYONE I know, as being pretty much below the breadline (even in places like Guizhou back in 2010)…yet, places like GuanYun, Huaihua, Yatunbao you can manage on very little.A chunky bowl of meat and noodles is like 4 rmb in places.Housing as most you know is a totally different kettle of fish, in smaller areas extended families live together (mum, dad, bros and sisters, uncles and a couple of cousins).
It’s not the west like everyone buys a house for themselves, (until recently); so pooling all that money from extended family means you can buy a huge new house or get a brand new house built in the country side for a reasonable price. (I own a house in China btw, it was about $35k when we bought it 10 years ago). But 2000 rmb per month….I call doubt big time; true min wage in Liaoning is like 1400 or something, most places it breaches 2500.Additionally, unlike the west where average salaries are exclusively blasted by the uber rich 1%. In China, pretty much every family will have at least one big earner in the household making 30,000 RMB per month in a big city.
Chinese people spread money around, they help out the family – we used to send money back to China every month 6 or so years ago until other people in the family started earning big bucks and now we are all doing all right. Thats not true for all my family in the west (but most of them it is).
Effectively, it’s not black and white; money gets stretched in different ways there; heck even the monthly’s (cell phone, electric, gas etc) are different there.
