A historic day for Denmark. May it continue the great relationship between the people and monarchy of Denmark. Excited to see a younger and more vigorous monarch in action.
52 years. No one saw this coming honestly. Though it makes sense now.
She is incredibly popular – 85 percentage approval rating – in a recent poll.
An intelligent, cultural, well spoken monarch with a lot of self irony actually. I think she will go over in history as one of the best in the more than 1000 year old history of the oldest constant monarchy in the world. If not the best.

She’s very artistic, she illustrated a Danish edition of Lord of the Rings
She’s designed ballet sets and clothes
One of her middle names is Thorhildur (but in Icelandic alphabet) which means Thor’s battle in Icelandic.

She said there came a time to retire, and my eyes flicked and my brain went WHAT. She then took a while flipping through pages of the speech.
I wonder if she was still undecided and what followed next could be a speech about retiring now, or stepping back to give the the future King Frederik X more responsibility.
Think she did the right call, and abdicated. Being partially king does not work. It’s all or nothing.
Her new year speeches are always good but this one was unbelievably strong. Basically summarised:
1. Not since 1943 have Jews been treated this badly (by you-know-who). It’s happening again. Support the Jews.
2. Dont for a second forget that Ukraine was viciously assaulted. Support Ukraine.
3. Global climate is fucked. Get your act together everyone.
4. AI is coming full speed. Be cautious but use it.
5. NOW: My back is broken and I’m tired after 52 years in the job. My son will take it from here. Salute to you all, I’m off!
Interesting fact: Apparently she’s the only queen regent in the world now, meaning that there will not be any left after her abdication.
