Strong earthquake prompts tsunami warning in Japan | DW News
A tsunami warning is in effect for parts of Japan’s West Coast following the country’s most powerful earthquake for more than 5 years on the other side of the Sea of Japan Russia’s Far East Coast North and South Korea are also on alert some 20 strong earthquakes shook Central
Japan’s western coast the most intense with a magnitude of 7.6 hit the isikawa prefecture authorities have warned people along the coast to move to safety more than 30 ,000 homes are without power and the Japanese government says no irregularities have been detected at nuclear power facilities we can get more from
Journalist Sonia blaska who joins us from Tokyo uh welcome Sonia uh so bring us up to date please yes um we are getting more and more reports about the situation in Ishikawa and in the neighboring prefectures and I mean yeah they’re not looking great um a lot of buildings I
Mean a lot is is a relative number but uh there are more and more reports about buildings uh collapsing or having collapsed or looking like this now basically uh there also reports about people being trapped under the rubble about six of them uh also some reports about injuries then have been fires
Flooding um the cause of which is is not even clear yet uh cracks in the roads landslides mod slides the whole um traffic to the region has been disrupted uh cin lines um have been cancelled planes have been cancelled so um yeah this this is a big one um even for even
By Ja Japanese standards so to speak right so there’s the that’s the quake and what about this tsunami how dangerous is that likely to become the tsunami the the issue is that apparently one of the the technical uh devices that they’re using to measure the height of the tsunami broke down so
They could only measure it to up to a meter 20 cm but they are saying that’s not normal so it shouldn’t the line shouldn’t remain flat so they don’t actually know how high the tsunami was in the end and there’s also the issue that it might actually travel back like
Once it reaches Russia and and Korea it could travel back to Japan and affect it once more and at this moment also the tie is hied so the combination of high tide and tsunami is obviously not a good one um so yeah um people need to stay on
Alert and and be very careful okay okay so U obviously people will remember the uh back in 2011 when Japan was hit by a magnitude 9 earthquake and tsunami that hit the Fukushima nuclear power plant caused explosions and meltdowns in three reactors has much changed since
Then I would say that the awareness has changed like today there was so many references already to the 2011 earthquake um also the reporting has changed because uh the topic of nuclear power plants and how they are doing after an earthquake hasn’t really been high on the agenda in the past but that
Has changed a lot and also I think people have have learned how to get to safety in a better way than in the past for example not using their cars to maybe then end up getting stuck in a traffic jam but rather maybe go to to higher up floors on in in concrete
Buildings for example right so um people are being reminded of these lessons and hopefully yeah it won’t get worse and we we’ve mentioned that Japan is particularly earthquake prone does it feel uh like does it feel dangerous I mean it’s it’s funny because well not really funny over the past
Couple of days I’ve had the feeling you know we haven’t had a bigger earthquake in quite some time and I thought that’s a bit Eerie even I I don’t know I felt uneasy because we haven’t had a bigger one in a while and it’s I mean when you
Live here for a while you kind of get used to it but not really and especially if like myself you’ve lived U through this this 2011 earthquake you’re always afraid that the big one is going to hit Japan again and nobody really wants to experience that again it was absolutely
Terrible and yeah so all we can do really now is hope that Ishikawa is not going to become a second fuk kushima okay thank you for that Sonia Sonia blaska in Tokyo

Luke 21:11,25-28 KJV
[11] And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
[25] And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
[26] Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
[27] And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
[28] And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Sure is funny ‘NOT’ that the devices they use to monitor tsunami’s is broken, hmm 🤔 Wouldn’t that cause more deaths? 🥺

bit late happened hours ago
God bless the Japan People 😢😢🇯🇵🇯🇵
0:24 You did not even get the epicenter correct. The epicenter was located inside the bay to the north, close to Noto's coastline facing the inside of the bay. Not much body of water there. Tsunami was at most 3m high as reported by Japanese media.
It is shivering how DW is worried more about power plants than people

"Does it feel dangerous?" – what a weird question. I mean, I've never experienced an earthquake before, but it should be clear that a 7.6 magnitude quake when everything is shaking violently should indeed feel dangerous. Love to Japan ❤
As a Japanese hearing this report, she provides us some mislead information.
First, Japanese government has't yet explains the precise numbers of the casualties and damages so she should've avoid to use the word "all", e.g., "all the buildings are tilted" and so as the roads. Second, about the Japanese mindset towards the earthquake, we're used to it but this is NOT "funny" at all. Third, she said "I hope Ishikawa won't be the second Fukushima" in the end of the earthquake plot. Fukushima often implies the nuclear power plant accident but not this time (so far). It's a misuse of the word.
I personally disappointed how DW, the German public broadcast, reports about this disaster.
You guys should report based on the fact.
Anyways, I hope everyone in Japan is alright…

God speed to our brother and sisters in Japan.. Keep the citizens safe and healthy from Las Vegas..
The anchors seem so robotic. That aside, may god show mercy upon the Japanese people.
The tsunami measuring system has broken down in Japan Waters there is no way of measuring how high the tsunami’s are going to be
Not even 24 hrs into the new year and already there is another disaster in making…😢
Poor, poor people of Japan. My heart goes to them.
