After an real effort to lose weight, and a life long battle with everything that comes with being obese, I’m the lightest I’ve ever been as an adult.
143kg (22.5st) in 2022 vs 88.8kg (14st) today.
I know this isn’t technically “related to Ireland” but given that so many of us will begin diets/gyms/lifestyle changes etc I figured some inspiration might motivate others.
It didn’t happen overnight and it came with so many different forms of support from professionals (HSE weight management program) , friends and family and my amazing partner. Along with calorie and portion control and discipline.
My quality of life has immeasurably improved from freedom of movement, clothing choice in shops and intimacy with my partner. I don’t wheeze when I lie down anymore, my knees don’t creek when I’m going upstairs anymore and my self image is beginning to catch up with my reflection in the mirror giving me a much needed boost in self confidence.
If you’re starting this year with good intentions, stick with them.
It’s more than fitting into a smaller belt size and it’ll take more than a few weeks on Weight Watchers, but by Jaysis if this lazy so and so can do it, you can too!

Well done you, a big pat on the back from me. Your post has helped inspire me to keep trying and do the same, I started in November ’23 with exercise but my eating slipped a bit with Christmas and a bout of depression (winter blues, grief, divorce, separation from kids and family, lots of things). Keep rocking man, you’re doing great
