I’ve seen this one before: >!The case goes to the US Supreme Court who rules that the maps should indeed be changed, but, *Oh!, would you look at the time?* It’s much too late in the election season to make material changes now.!<
Did CBS just learn this? Do they get their news via Pony Express?
I really wish just once democrats would play hard ball.
Just put the proper, fair maps into place, let whatever legal challenges come, and if it gets reversed, just do what Republicans do and refuse to put it into place. That way it will still be a fair map, and the Republicans can go F themselves.
Sometimes, the greater good is worth breaking the rules for.
A state that is almost 50/50 that dems eke out statewide office wins in most cases but has a super majority for republicans in one of the state houses. Yep , nothing to see here. Completely fair maps.
I hope dems have a plan to engage with the rural part of the state if they regain power. They need to do a better job educating people on the things they do for people outside the bigger cities.
> Writing the dissent on the lawsuit, Chief Justice Annette Ziegler, a conservative, drew on Protasiewicz’s past statements. Ziegler argued that liberals were only hearing the gerrymandering case due to their current majority.
So? Conservatives refused to hear the case when they had the majority. This a big reason why the voters elected Janet Protasiewicz last year.
> There “appears to be evidence of a partisan and political, rather than a reasoned and restrained, approach, and thus departs from the constitutional role of the judiciary,” Ziegler wrote.
> Republicans contended that the redesigned map would lead to the creation of more Democrat-friendly districts before the 2024 election and had called for Protasiewicz to recuse herself from the case.
What a shame.
The districts in WI are ridiculous and should have been changed long ago. I went to a liberal college in a republican area and knowing where to vote was a nightmare as the republicans had gerimandered each dorm into a different district. Shameful!
Is it really a purple state if one side has their finger on the scale? Seems to me they are just bringing it back to an even playing Field.
So..a GOP gerrymander to a Democrat gerrymander?
More of this pls
