In case you’ve missed it: the new Leuven-logo

  1. Not sure what to think about this. Kind of looks like a random arrangement of wallpaper samples.

  2. Ugly as fuck. On the bright side, they only spent €100.000 on it which is 20% of a cooking app.

  3. I just don’t see any connection with Leuven. The previous logo was very recognizable and unique. This logo could just as easily be for a random non-profit, a bank or a telecom company. I don’t think it’s all that ugly but for me a change wasn’t needed and it’s just worse than the previous one.

Not seeing anything that represents this in this logo.

    > Het nieuwe logo:

    > – Vormt een kleurrijk stadsplan, waar elke richting de juiste is.

    [This does the same thing](https://media.s-bol.com/7jQm8VOAjNr/550×385.jpg)

    > Verwijst naar glas in lood en een rijk verleden.

    Don’t see it.

    > – Is een ode aan diversiteit en creativiteit.

    Because it has multiple colours?

    > – Heeft een open structuur, die uitnodigt tot samenwerking en kruisbestuiving.

    No, it doesn’t.

    > – Een deel van het logo is zwart-wit gearceerd, een verwijzing naar een verhaal in opbouw, dat nog niet af is.

    Use a barcode.

    > – Rode tinten, een verwijzing naar de kleuren van ons wapenschild, staan centraal in de vorm van een L.

Bitch, it’s partly pink and orange. Also, both sides are long. That does not form a L.

I wish I could get paid as much to bullshit.

I prefer the old one, if you have visited Leuven you will mostly recognize that building it portrayed.

This one is just another *-startup logo. If in 5 years someone would show it to me without the “leuven” part I would not be sure from where it is.

    Seems like a friendly-with-the-current-elected-politicians marketing-department received a nice payday.

  6. Looks solid, nothing special but versatile. My only gripe is the typography, makes me think of hema or dick bruna books

  7. Sigh. Looks way worse than the old one. Cities should keep using their heraldic emblems. It’s way cooler.

  8. For a moment I feared this was the new logo of the KU Leuven and wanted to say: ‘waar is der oudren fierheid nu gevaren?’

Happy to hear it’s only for the city of Leuven. Looks like a patchwork, but then again that’s probably the point?

  9. Typische veilige marketing.

  10. I mean, I liked the previous one a lot more. I feel like this has some kind of abstract meaning that isn’t very clear.

Either way, I’m not from Leuven, so it’s not really my business.

  11. My 5 cents about this logo as a graphic designer and working for local government.

This logo isn’t bad. It has a lot of opportunities for a complete graphical style rolled out digitally and on other carriers. You can discuss about colors and taste, but from a graphical standpoint this is good work.

I agree about recognizability, but this is a local logo, it doesn’t need that much recognition for the broader public. A big rollout locally will be enough to have a consequent look and so it will be recognizable for Leuvenaars.

My main point is that change always is difficult. Every time some ‘institution’ makes a change that is too progressive or new, almost everyone will complain. I remember every new design for the VRT newssite. Everyone hated it. I remember the new logo for my own town. Everyone thought it was a waste of money. But every change that was met with criticism, was a hit in the long term.

  12. It’s horrible, especially relative to the previous one, which I always thought was especially nice and slick.

  13. Am I the only one bothered by the missing capital letter?

What does it say about Leuven, when they even can’t spell their own name right.

  14. For me, It’s a real representation of Leuven.

    A perfect circle:

    – Many people believe that a perfect circle is only a fake representation. Perfect circles are an illusion.

    – If a government sees itself as perfect, for many outside the government, they have a problem.

    The colors:

    – Are there primary colors?

    – Why no Yellow?

The colors are chosen so that nobody can say, you make a clear statement.

There is no yellow, so nobody can blame you to be flamigant or Belgian.

But if you are in discussion with a flamigant, you can say the orange is in reality yellow. (Black – Yellow)

The same for the discussion with a Belgicist. (Black – Yellow – Red)

Is there a red color in the middle or it’s more of a red/Bordeau version of red?

Like the politics in Leuven. We use a lot of words to say a lot, but we declare nothing. And we always can find a reason to say, but we did the best for you.

    The 90-degree curves.

    – IF you follow exactly our rules, provided by the city, we will make you feel accepted.

    – IF you are flexible, 89 or 91 degrees, we start to make your life difficult

    – Don’t live in our city if you have a different opinion. If you do not believe in black and white, provided by the city, stay far away. Or we will make you decide to stay away.

  15. So dumb, the old logo was fine, and if they wanted a new Logo why not ask villagers to design it and to vote for their favorite, and not spend €60000 on it?!
