I think there needs to be some caveats here. I don’t want the captain of the plane I’m flying on or the surgeon fusing my neck smoking pot when they aren’t on duty.
Sounds awesome. More quality legislation from a Democratic-led state. This is progress
And protecting your doctors from dumbass red state shenanigans. Man, those sound like some great laws there, California.
We got a law that eliminates diversity-based programs in public universities. So… yeah. Oh and some property tax stuff.
good.
A state that is expanding individual liberty. That’s refreshing!
Imagine needing to have laws established so your workplace can’t dictate your behavior off the clock. American capitalism is beyond fucked.
Reading the title, it gives a condescending tone. I would love if this was federal law.
Why are construction workers singled out?
I love this, but it also makes me sad as this sort of protection, not weed specific, in general, is found in other countries for a loooong time now.
The us is about 50 years behind worker rights for other developed countries….
Good to see CA leading the way economically and sensibly.
Quick reminder that Democratic run counties states and cities lead the nation in GDP, long story short, if Democrats didn’t work, Republicans wouldn’t have roads.
Gawd what a hell hole, no wonder everyone is leaving.
I love it it just took us 100 years to get here
The sane state wins again.
GOP: “thanks to big government, our prices have gone up 10,000% due to extra sick leave!!!”
also GOP: “there should be LAWS against LGBTQ books in the library!!”
I never understood drug testing for weed for a job. You could get plastered every night after work and come back the next day hungover af, but smoking a j after work is too much
We’re doomed!
Anyone know what this means for local CDL drivers?
Whilst this is good news, the legal requirement is to offer a single week of paid sick leave. Still a generation (or two) behind the rest of the developed world. A good start, more progress needed.
Dank
I was a teenager and had to take a drug test to work at a convenience store. Thank god I smoked weed and never got that job.
I wonder how the weed law will affect how national companies have to treat their employees in other states. I mean if company X can’t fire you in California for smoking a joint outside of work, should they be able to in another state?
Imagine being able to stay away from coworkers and the public when you’re sick.
Long as you 1. Not doing it during work 2 not effecting you work if should not matter. That should go for everything that doesn’t harm others
sounds like every billionaire broke out in tears over this
Wow, sounds like a total dystopia. /S
Drug-testing was just a power grab by the HR departments anyway. Good riddance.
Time for me to leave Florida for Cali
You can still get fired for using weed outside of work if you are in a federally-regulated industry like aviation, maritime, or trucking.
The article says people will be receiving a guaranteed 5 days of sick leave. Some people believe this is good because it allows employees to not come into work while sick. Others say it’s bad because it creates a burden on the business because some people fake being sick for a day off work.
If your business is struggling because someone is taking the bare minimum of 5 days off from work over a window of a year, then your business is probably trash. You’re probably understaffed on purpose and it creates incredible stress on employees when someone calls out because of it. If you take care of your employees, hire more people, and treat them with compassion then subreddits like r/antiwork would have a difficult time existing. It’s filled with people who are in jobs that treat them like shit. A handful of people are in there for other reasons, but a majority of posters seem to get treated with “the bare minimum” as employees.
How can you complain about 5 days of sick leave? That’s so disheartening.
Headline seems to imply there is something wrong with this?
I hope I can move to California after college. Sounds pretty solid.
