4 years for nicking 1.3million is a joke! It’s like the courts are encouraging scumbags to commit crimes.
Ah see, he only stole £1.3m, not enough to walk and become a Lord.
Rookie mistake.
I personally think gambling should be banned.
It contributes very slightly to the economy, but it’s not worth the damage it causes to many, many people
I like the sentiment of him not being proud of what he’s done but not being ashamed either. I imagine that’s potentially very significant in dealing with his addiction and aiding his recovery. Hopefully he continues on the path he is on and makes amends for the hurt he caused.
See that’s his mistake if he’d stolen a billion the government would have given him a job.
It’s a little tiring at this point. Gambling didn’t cause you to steal £1.3mil, being a thief did that.
It’s easy to feel empathy or sympathy for people who gamble away their life’s work or get themselves into horrible debt then has to rebuild. But someone who gambles through a house deposit gets bailed out by parents then later gambles through £50,000. Then starts using a company credit card to pay their own credit card debt then decides they could just gamble using the company card to rack up a further £1.3mil gambling debt? Betting on anything and everything they could?
You’re just a lying thieving chancer at that point. Gambling is just the most discreet method of laundering the stolen cash. Gambling could be banned people like this would still steal money. Because he’s a thief.
Just a weasel.
Have to commend the company that takes on people from Prison and offers them a second chance.
I found myself developing a bit of a gambling habit at one time. It was strange how it just took over and common sense went out the window, paying in money to try and get back the losses. Fortunately I realised and pulled back from it before I lost too much.
Just don’t touch my gacha games it’s my choice how I spend my money in them.
Gambling is just a way to con poor people out of what little they have.
facebook is full of groups that run illegal raffles too and I see there is a whole set of companies that run these so called competitions, which under the hood is just still raffles, so gambling.
interesting topic tho, gambling in UK seems part of the culture
The BBC peddles horse racing every weekend then tells sob stories about financiers lead astray, now working with big companies to stop the rot. Hilarious.
Ban the vast, intrusive and continuous advertising and sponsorship.
Restrict the high street shops so there’s not one every 500m in every town and village.
That would solve a lot of the issues.
Strangest thing is how this guy stole so much money and just continued living in his home as normal. Maybe he’d accepted the inevitable prison sentence but he could have went on the run.
I’ve had to come to terms with the fact that I have a gambling problem, also worked for one of the UK’s biggest bookmakers for 4 years.
Stories like this hit close to home, but I still don’t think that gambling should be banned.
The excessive advertising of it and how closely it’s been embedded within certain sports however does need to be curbed significantly.
He’s a thief and should have got a longer sentence
