People can like what they like. I think it is a fantasy, a specific brazen fantasy that you only get from Japanease anime where the creators mix and match cultural themes that borders on appropriation but never quite gets there and you never see from western artists. If you want genuine viking shit read some medieval nordic literature or nordic authors writing historical fiction. The tv stuff is always saturated with other influences like hollywood(Vikings series) or Japanese influences like Vinland Saga.
I hate to be the one to tell you this, but Icelandic people are not a monolith. Some Icelanders like Vinland Saga, some Icelanders don’t like it, and a hyper-majority have never heard of the show to begin with.
Personally I’m lukewarm on it. It’s well made and not a bad show, but it’s not really my cup of tea.
(This only applies to the anime that is available on Netflix)
I personally really like it. I like seeing Nordic culture through the lens of a Japanese artist(or any outsider to be honest) as it can give us, who are raised with stories of Nordic culture, a different perspective. In fact I find it invaluable insight into how an outsider interprets a culture that is not their own.
Its probably in my top 5 tv shows off all time
I’m not really in a position to judge since i haven’t seen it.
It just doesn’t seem like something i’d enjoy watching.
First time I’m hearing about this, so no opinion
Bara skemmtilegir þættir, á eftir að lasa mangað, fannst seinni serian síðri en samt skemmtilegt áhorf
