  1. But at least they ride bicycles to help save the climate.

  2. That’s probably 90% german firework. They practically invaded our supermarkets.

  3. Jesus christ. Are we the only country that don’t do a lot of fireworks for the past decade or so? Although it was a lot worse this year in my town than the past years, especially with firecrackers. The only places that had official fireworks were Ljubljana and …Murska sobota. Both were small.

  4. Fucking Madness. They are already causing havok for 2 weeks now. Hope the government will end this once and for all.

  5. People against this should live in a retirement home, its just one day per year

  6. 1 day later: everything is so expensive, i have no money

  7. Not doing fireworks because it scares animals has become a trend in the past two years in our region. It started in Croatia in a couple of cities, the idea spread a bit, this year Sarajevo followed as well. Is this trend spreading anywhere else?

  8. Beautiful! I miss fireworks so much…

New Years is so depressing now that my city in Finland decided to not have a firework show. Instead we got a shitty light show. Fireworks are still very much allowed almost every where around the city, so anyone who wants to can buy them…

What’s the point of banning the big, beautiful city hall firework show if you are still allowing random firework shootings around the city? The animals and climate are suffering much more from random fireworks all around the city, instead of it being contained to one moment at one location in the city!

  9. Damn.

Mine was pretty damn boring in comparison – literaly only 1 house used fireworks.

But to be fair I live in a very small town with less than 200 people…

  10. They look relatively orderly here. A lot of people in Germany seemed to shoot at random angles in comparison.

  11. I live near the Netherland and I swear the whole night of NYE after the clock struck midnight it was just this deafening roar of distant fireworks going off nonstop. Haha

  12. If aliens see this from the sky, I am sure that they will be confused. Is this a war or a catastrophe?

  13. After experiencing two Dutch new years fireworks like this all i can say is it just makes the new year night – ugly.

There is nothing interesting or actually watchable in fireworks like this. There is no sequence, no tonal shifts, no buildup to highlights, no story to any of it. Its just full automatic bursts for about an hour and it all just looks like a complete ugly mess.

  14. Similar scene as in Rotterdam, where Het Nationale Vuurwerk was staged.

Here’s what I don’t get. Collectively across the NL, how much money was spent on fireworks? Say that it was X€. Suppose we ban all private sales of fireworks, and only let public administrations buy them with X€. They would be (I speculate) much more beautiful, orderly and organized fireworks. People would be perhaps even more entertained, because of some semblance of choreography.

I was utterly disappointed with Het Nationale Vuurwerk. They were beautiful, but only lasted 10 minutes. In Venice in July for _Il Redentore,_ the fireworks go on for 30-40 minutes, with nothing else lighting up the sky before, during or after.

  15. someone who isn’t dutch might not understand the thrill. 1 night in the year. If done correctly it is a very fun tradition.

  16. This is easily one of the funnest things about living in the netherlands. It brings out all my neighbors together and we have a great time lighting them off, and you see all the different ones going of over the houses in every direction. I would love to watch from the top of the martini tower and see it all from every direction

  17. That’s one of the many things I loathe about the Netherlands. Couldn’t go to sleep until 4 am because of this. Insanity.

  18. So strange, such a eco friendly green country but at the same time obsessed with fireworks, I don’t get it.

  19. Was in Den Haag for NYE, it was crazy. There were constant fireworks for 3 days.

  20. I visited the Netherlands for six months in 2015/2016, and got to experience the new years eve there. It was the only day I felt unsafe the whole trip lol.

We were right in the Eindhoven city centre, and had some kids throw rockets at our direction. And just a few mins later, a group of adults did the same. They were all just laughing, it was fucking wild.

We decided to head back to our apartment and enjoy the rest of the evening from our balcony. Had a very nice trip overall though
