  1. Um, this is doesn’t work for almost every dialling code.

  2. That’s interesting! Works for Wigan and Huddersfield which were 2 I knew offhand. My own whilst growing up (Chorley 0257 which became 01257) doesn’t, but Chester has 01244 (would have been 0244) so used CH leaving us with CL. I enjoy this kind of nerd info!

  3. Wow works with Worcester (01905) and Fareham (01329)

To edit OOPs question O and Q were probably matched with 0 as they looked similar, but then we’re moved to be back in alphabetical order

  4. Scarborough 01723

    Consett 01207

Nope, totally inaccurate fake clickbait garbage

  5. Is this true, because Leeds is 0113, Sheffield below it is 0114, and Nottingham below that is 0115

  6. With the move to digital phone services, area codes won’t mean much in a few years as they will no longer be attached to the exchanges

  7. The phone dialing code in my region was taken and relocated to London for some reason.

  8. Everyone knows the only good thing about Bedford is the area code: 01234.

As a child I used to think you just typed 0-5 before any number – it took me a while to realise we just had a *really convenient* area code.

  9. Basically it’s alphabetical then some places were so big they needed more (like London moving from 01 to 0171/0181) then others like Manchester (061) then even some that ended up 0117
