Big chunk of them are fronts for grafters. The new sunbed shops they are.
still seeing a lot of American candy stores that have shelves full of vapes
The backbone of the modern UK economy. Rule Britannia!
I live in a sleepy market town that has at least three vape shops, and have never seen any of them with a single customer inside.
They’re all just fronts for money laundering, that’s not a big secret right?
Always weird that these things stay open when they are obviously dodgy.
Meanwhile any self employed person I know is worried about getting their tax right.
One near me is clearly being used for dealing out of. I suspect that a good percentage will be the same.
Just to buck the trend a bit our little Bedfordshire market town has 2 vape shops – me and my partner usually buy online so have never been in either. Got caught short over Christmas so my partner went into both, the first one was completely sold out of all vapes and only had a few liquids left as they were so busy over Christmas – partner went to the other and had a great experience with the guy in there giving her loads of advice on juice composition, helped her get her new one set up and had quite a few walk ins whilst there. I always just assumed they were fronts too but at least the ones we have here are legit and actually probably quite valuable!
Money laundering for foreign crooks just like the City of London.
They will. And then Suddenly drop when it’s time to pay the VAT bill
A small shop near to us that used to sell live plants alongside the usual corner shop stuff closed down after 60 years and became a fucking vape shop.
It’s like the gin craze, and most will die a death pretty soon. Far too many people jumping on the same idea, and it’s dumb because for our typical corner shop they are money makers and not something to do on a genuine special offer, but most vapes shops go crazy with the special offers and cutting the profit margins on the only thing you sell…Not a great long term business plan…
I live near a town which used to be alright when I was growing up. Now all the decent shops have gone in the centre and it’s basically just a series of vape shops, dodgy phone shops and even dodgier takeaways. It’s fucking stupid.
I once decided to open an online vape shop, using a wholesalers as a dropshipper for all my stock.
The markup on those liquids is fucking insane. You can sell a liquid 3x more than what you pay wholesale, and that’s not being greedy either.
Sadly, every man and his dog has a similar model, so unless you have a really good USP, the business won’t take off.
But I can see why bricks and mortar stores are very successful. The margins are very appealing.
