How about using all the state money spaffed on landlords to build homes instead?
Fianna Fail and Fine Gael, the rentrollers.
Yeah I mean the poor fuckers, owning an appreciating asset, being able to claim 100% relief on mortgage interest, rents at record levels (way beyond Celtic Tiger rates), and getting a recent tax break.
God help those poor landlords.
They’ll use the tax break to alleviate the housing shortage not just pocket the extra cash and raise people’s rent anyway like every other time we gave them tax breaks. Trust us this time
Trickle down economics hasn’t worked, surely more trickle down economics will work
If we give landlords enough money eventually some ~~shit~~ thing will trickle down to the plebs who should be grateful for the morsel
Fuck off
*”My buddies need more tax breaks, says Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien”*
Of course him and his buddies want more tax breaks.
Maybe landlords should be provided with proper mechanisms to get rid of non paying tenants and tenants who thrash the place. Ridiculous that they can keep appealing for up to two years while still not paying rent.
Any application for HAP should also have the premises inspected to ensure its up to standard and then HAP paid direct to the landlord.
Not all evil and looking to make a quick buck (and I’m not a landlord or FFG supporter)
Who. The. Fuck. Are voting for these cunts.
This is doing the same as providing a housing benefit to the people. Rents and property values will not drop, and all it is really doing is putting public (tax) money into the private (landlord) hands and nothing good is going to come out of it.
What the hell happened to the ideal that the 14,000 on a rental property would be tax free but if the rent is higher than that then they get charged the tax on the full income, would give landlords a tax break plus bring rents down to overnight.
This year I’m eligible to vote for the EP elections in Dublin. I’ll make damned sure I don’t vote for any candidate who is a landlord.
The government could hunt down potential landlords and just hand them money every month and they would still complain it’s not enough.
Honestly it’s about time. My dad wasn’t able to buy a new five series bmw this year and he feels really embarrassed. We are really feeling the pinch this year on the nine houses. Could only holiday in Europe. Which was fine but it’s a bit common. A tax break like this can’t come soon enough. Especially as that’s why our family voted FG FF
won’t somebody *please* think of the landlords?
Is there anything to be said for saying another mass?

Sounds like darragh has a few rentals of his own.
Basically, give TDs a raise without increasing the rest of the civil service pay
Landlord Tax Rates should be linked to rent charged per unit.
High Rent = High Tax
Low Rent = Low Tax
Would instantly put downward pressure on rents and reward decent landlords.

Can we all claim tax breaks on investments other people are paying for now?
Not sure about the rest of you, but I don’t pay taxes just to see that money handed to landlords that don’t provide a public service.
If a landlord can’t pay the bills they sell the property, simple. That’s how it’s ment to work. But giving them my tax money will not fix the problem and they have no god given right to hold onto priority they can’t afford.

Feudalism is still strong in Ireland.
Tax break for landlords if they commit to having the rent under a certain amount every month.
Once you go over it, the tax break dissappears. Otherwise this doesn’t work.
Why is it never enough for them? How can they have been in charge for so long and still have implemented absolutely nothing to improve the situation?
Bro just one more tax break for landlords just one more bro we’ll fix the housing crisis this time I swear
I can’t wait till I see some cunt get a tax break while renting out a property that looks like a backup set for the movie Cube with 17 million Ukrainians and Dublin students crammed inside
*We’ve designed a system such that the only way to house people is to transfer government wealth into private hands.*
Those landlords that aren’t fleeing the market, yeah, those guys, they need more money to keep them from not fleeing.
What a joke, another policy to keep house prices high, landlords and speculators will rush to buy even more property now if this happens. They should be deterred from investing in property, they hoover up all the affordable accommodation competing with first time buyers! Let them sell there properties if they are not happy, most people renting want to buy!
LOL Really more tax breaks WTF my rent has gone up every 6 months since covid started and they need the break ok.

I can smell an election
Seeing as they’re all landlords themselves…
