Something for the forever renters to look forward to one day.
Too young for any help, old enough for the problems of age to put blue collar workers out of work.
Have they tried eating less avocado toast?
I know this doesn’t fit the current narrative, but all boomers didn’t leave school and walk into a salivating job market. Early boomers had gobbled up all of the good jobs, and when the 1960-64 born boomers came out in the early 80s, a steady diet of recession and high interest rates awaited.
Things weren’t as fucked as they are now, but late boomers had a shit go as well, and after a delayed start, it’s no surprise that they don’t have the wealth to coast into retirement.
What the hell are we going to do? In reality it will require cutting spending and raising taxes but getting even one of those done seems impossible now with politicians never doing anything that can cost them votes. It’s downright scary and I fear the only way this gets solved is through some serious serious pain.
They destroyed the country with their right-wing capitalist ideology and now they have to face the consequences of their actions.
Enjoy what you’ve voted for since the late 70s.
you should never have relied on social security in the first place.
in the past the trifecta for retirement savings was
1.) interest earned on your savings
2.) pension
3.) SSI
since they gave us pretty much zero interest rates from 2008- 2019
then they got rid of pensions for 401ks which are too volatile
SSI hasn’t even remotely kept up with cola in the decades it’s been in effect
so it’s all a recipe for d isaster. so a warning to any future retirees. stack up as much as you can SSI is only supplemental. it should not be your only retirement income.
Have they tried moving to rural areas where rent is cheep?
The data back up time and time again that homelessness is first and foremost a price of housing problem. That is the closest correlating factor to homelessness rates, beating out drug addiction, mental illness, and even poverty rates. Add this one to the pile.
